Is it something similar to Patchouli's "Mukyu" and Utsuho's "Unyu"?  And how did it came to be in the first place?

It was translators' choice. They apparently thought Silence was a better translation instead of Stillness, although I think most people regard Stillness as the better translation.

To expand a bit from Hideki, I think 'Jaoooo' is a stereotypical Chinese kiai shout for Japanese, kinda like 'Hiyah!' or 'Waaaaaaaataaaaaaah' when people do caricatures or parodies of martial artists shouts in English.

I'm Taiwanese, which has the same culture as China, and I can't say that I've heard such a cry before.  Thanks for the information though.

It seems that Meiling is commonly seen as an avatar for the Dragon God, Dragon God itself or some other kind of reptile youkai that resembles the Dragon God. Sometimes she's 'just a youkai'.

But has anyone ever considered that Meiling might just be a panda youkai who dyes her hair red and likes dragons? She's from China, isn't that particularly powerful despite the dragon imagery, is veeery lazy, relies on physical strength and we've never seen her ears before. She might have a pair of panda ears under her hat.

I should draw this some time...

Maybe that is where Remi & co. found her in the first place, munching on bamboo. Remi was interested in Meiling's martial arts technique and decided she'd want her as a gate keeper. To convince Meiling to join the SDM Remilia faced her in a physical battle. Remilia, being a vampire and thus possessing amazing strength, defeated Meiling. Because of Meiling's martial arts honor or something of the like Meiling was obliged to now serve Remilia, just like how Sakuya may have been a vampire hunter that came to serve Remi through defeat. Alternatively, Remilia used her powers of fate to manipulate Meiling into becoming a gate keeper.

And perhaps Meiling gets payed with bamboo? :V

Perfect Memento has Akyu under the assumption that she's paid with human.  Mei Ling also states to Reimu that she should have permission to eat humans and shrine maidens.  So she really does seem to be quite carnivorous.

Me personally, I think Mei Ling MIGHT be an actual dragon god but doesn't realize it (and was probably sealed away, along with her memories.  Possibly she may even be the original dragon that threatened to destroy Gensokyo, and Yukari sealed her away but lied to the historians by  stating that she got the dragon pacified by pledging peace).  The dragon symbolisms are already well documented (Hong meaning Dragon and on her hat, her rainbow spell cards, etc), but sometimes I wonder if her dreams about an epic youkai might actually be dreams about herself (Mei Ling's Hisoutenkan ending, she

), especially considering how serious business dreams tend to be in Touhou.  Again, I say "might", since this is obviously mostly speculative.

....of course, it would also be a pretty hilarious joke by ZUN, that a youkai so disrespected and picked on might actually be the most powerful youkai of all.

Sadly, Iku doesn't really have any clues in her  few VS quotes with Mei Ling, but maybe ZUN thought that'd be too obvious.

I don't know the name, but I've seen it sometimes in NND, and it's totally funny.  Some of the most famous sounds are of a women in red clothes and short hair covering her face with her hands, and taking her hands out of her face while she screams "HA", and another famous one is of a man saying something like "Hombawaa" or something like that..

There are other famous ones, if you don't know yet what I'm talking about, I can tell more of 'em..

The woman is called Hisamoto Kumiko, and the video used is when she showed up in a certain video that promotes a certain religion called "Soukagakkai"

I can't exactly make out which one you may be talking about, but as far as I know, -in terms of those types of MAD videos- Matsuoka Shuuzo is the most famous male used in those kinds of videos, so it might be him?
This one is much safer than the one stated above so you can enjoy it without caring too much if it is him.

This question's been bugging me: what exactly is ZUN's role in the fighting games? Just writing, or does he do the music too but with different tools, because the fighting game music doesn't really have the style that ZUN's normal music has.

or does he do nothing and is credited with "Setting and characters" or something?
