So, how about that PC-98?
« on: November 05, 2009, 09:43:11 PM »
Yeah, I decided to break with tradition and play one of the PC-98 Touhou games. Chose Lotus Land Story for no real reason, played all the way through it, and it was kinda neat. One problem though - whenever a lot of stuff was happening on screen (at Yuuka II: The Return especially) everything would sorta... flicker. Reimu/the bullets would keep blinking in and out of existence fairly rapidly, which was pretty distracting and made everything harder to read.

I'm using some emulator called anex86. I have another emulator called T98 Next or something but my limited experimentation with that hasn't actually revealed how to run the games (which're .hdi files for what it's worth). My OS is Vista 32bit.

So 2 Qs really, though they may be linked. 1) How do I get rid of the flickering? 2) How do I work T98 Next?

This thread mainly discusses how to use Anex86, but I also added a howto for T98-Next.  Check it out, hopefully something in there will help fix your flickering.

Thanks good sir. I've altered the settings for both emulators and T98-Next is producing far better results. I haven't used it to play through to any of the more intensive bits yet so I don't know whether the flickering's been completely dealt with, but I'm feeling optimistic right now.
