Touhou for PSP seriously. (Read last post)
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:23:47 PM »
This is driving me insane. I just found some video of PCB running on PSP seemingly flawless. And I don't see any suspicious things with the video either.

Is this really true? Has a touhou game finally been made runable on psp?

Here's the youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As19R741q5Q&fmt=18

And the original nicovideo:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6620783

What boggles me even more is that if you look real close at the start of the video, there's an address embedded into the loading screen on the game. And that address lead to a psp programming post about a bitmap font library for the psp.

I haven't been able to find any more related info on this yet. Does anyone know something about this?

EDIT: I found some additional info and a link that I previously missed. I may also have found the files for the psp version.

I'll get back to it once I've checked it out.

The PCB video you're talking about is some bored guy attempting to port the game to the PSP. From what it looks like, it's working; the guy is fucking good at this.

The only video I've found is that one of him going through stage 1, but that was put up rather recently(I think) so hopefully we'll be hearing more from him soon.

(It also looks like he kept the screen proportions. Which is weird for me because I play on a wide-screen monitor, so I'm used to everything being stretched a bit ;p)

I found a link to their site in the video.
You can barely make it out, but it's in there.

Although I'm not very good at reading Japanese at the moment so I'm having an extremely hard time getting through all that text.

I found a download directory with their original game and a bunch of sourcecode they also linked on the site.

There's also a zip called "youmu.zip" in there which seems to be corrupt. But the file list shows all files from PCB in it, so I'm not really sure where they are hiding the psp version. If they even have it up yet in the first place.

Should I post the links?

I watched that video and thought it was quite cool.

Then Letty started firing bullets and my brain screamed "does not compute".

I just went OMFG batshit insane when I saw the video.
I've seen some and heard about the DS version, but before now I've only seen some mockups on a psp version and not something actually playable like this.

I'd much rather even pay for a psp touhou like that one instead of the majority of pretty much lame official psp titles out there.

Anyone feel like trying to help and dig out more about this?
I don't know if the files are released yet, but there might be some more info somewhere on their site.

that looks awesome. but why is letty not using her own spells?

also, it seems plausible for touhou to run on a PSP, since if you look in the corner, you can see its running at 30FPS.

i still want it. lets hope we here from this guy soon, or at least give letty her own spells. it looks weird watching Letty use Patchouli's 2nd midboss extra spell from EoSD as her 1st attack :P.

but then yeah, it seems less of a long term project and more of a proof-of-concept thing.

Even if it don't seem like a long term project, I'm almost sure there's a pretty good chance at the guy releasing the sourcecode. Seeing how the sourcecode for the original danmaku on the site is available.

These are the links found in the video:

Featured before the developer's site, stating that the game uses the psp bitmap font library created available at the site:
http://www.psp-programming.com/benhur/

And this is the other link featured in the video at the loading screen after the previous link:
http://dixq.net/rp/

It goes to what seems to be the main page for their original shooter, and the main site is of course:
http://dixq.net/

Where you can also find the zip file index at:
http://dixq.net/zip/

And in the zip index I also found the youmu.zip file I mentioned earlier. However the youmu zip seems to be corrupted, but the files listed in the zip is all those of PCB.

Hopefully there's more info about the touhou port, somewhere on that site. But yea, since my Japanese reading skills are pretty low at the moment, I can't really know for sure.

It's a firmware hack to enable PSP to run a basic version of Windows, IIRC, and enough to play some games.

It's real though.

But in the video he is clearly just loading a ISO file, and it isn't just a port of PCB either. It has different spellcards and patterns.

So I'm almost certain that he made a playable ISO file of the game.

I've heard about the windows port, but last time I heard about it everything was extremely slow and didn't support much.

Oh, wow... That was DixQ?

Yeah apparently. If you look really really close at the loading screen at the text, you can see the address to his site. It took some time before I noticed it from the start.

I'm interested in getting PCB on PSP as well.  I was able to fix the zip file (except for thebgm.dat which is the music) but it looked like a normal PCB.  Letty has her original spellcards and not the one shown on the video.

Yeah I know there's some DS touhou out there. But since I don't even have a flashcard for the DS, they don't really interest me much.

However that PSP version looks extremely promising. It really makes me wonder why noone has made a PSP version earlier. It seems that people are more likely to make games for DS.

I do know a friend who has a certain version of Touhou on his DS. Unfortunately, it's scripted from scratch, resembles Touhou only vaguely, and is completely unfun and bugged.

Maybe someone knows a real version, but I certainly don't.

Uhh, there's a Touhou DS project some guy is working on... http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=349.0

Yeah, you can make your own levels and bosses and stuff, but I haven't tried. You need the flash card anyway. He's still coding it, so of course it isn't really perfect.

And I think the PSP project was ultimately a proof-of-concept thing, so.

Ok I have been searching a LOT again tonight for some Touhou PSP, and I can indeed confirm that they do exist. Not only that, but there's a bunch of them and not just one.

I still haven't been able to find the one from dixq as seen in that amazing video from nicodouga. =/

Though here is one of the other games that I found.
This site has some instructions and a download link for megaupload:

http://pspdstouhougame.blog.shinobi.jp/Entry/3/
-
and this is the megaupload link with the first version.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H8O46UUS

there's also a project page for the game here:
http://code.google.com/p/kene-touhou-mohofu/

and if you download the latest file from the page above there's a link to 4shared, complete with folder password. and that site hosts a huge pile of later versions of the game, as well as other files that seem to be other game projects about touhou.

I found some other Touhou psp games too, but this one was the best so far of the ones I've gotten to work.

Now if we could only find that one seen in the video..  >_<

EDIT:
Oh and I almost forgot. I also found this Wii project while searching for a psp version.
http://dl.qj.net/Touhou-Fangame-Beta-2-Wii-Homebrew/pg/12/fid/17240/catid/525
I don't know how well that works though since I don't have a modded Wii. But it would be nice if anyone knew something about it.

Nice. Also feel free to help in figuring out which files that work. I think that the kene files have a lot of patches in that password protected folder.

This seems to be in very early stages right now.  I tried it out and there really isn't much to it.  There's a screenshot of the game at:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Touhou_Fangame
and that's pretty much all you get at this point.  Though it was kinda interesting to play using wiimote as a pointing device rather than a controller.

This game is a disapointment... i doesn?t even look good... it?s just a bunch of stars being shot and no pattern...
When i played this (when i still had HBC and yes it was exactly like that on the screenshot from the wiibrew Wiki) i was VERY disapointed.
It could have been made better...
