Messed around with VoWG No Focus since that's the current trend.

It's... not that bad. You can macrododge about 90% of the waves, and squeezing between the waves isn't that much different from squeezing between them focused.

That being said 1DNB VoWG No Focus. That would've been a capture if I didn't trap myself like that. Timing it out is a different story.

So... after a fair bit of practice, I've started to get the hang of the micrododging without focus, and...

The rest of the run was terrible to the point that I almost didn't even make it to VoWG (although the 2 power no focus Yamato Torus cap was nice), but I'm really, really proud of this. This is probably the hardest (and definitely my favourite) no focus challenge I've done. :V Gonna stick it on YouTube soonish.

Isn't that the whole point of Patchouli?

The spirit mechanics in SWR/UNL make real projectile spamming impossible, especially considering Patch's are geared for damage over priority.

Yuyuko's probably the best bet, since she fills the screen in seconds and has a bit of everything, though Tenshi's drills and Yukari's C Lasers of Death^TM take second.

E: Reimu, Marisa, and Sakuya can win with near-solid 236 spam.

edit: HRtP is easy when you think about it. just another resource management game, only much more fun than the average touhou.

Btw Sapz, is VoWG just about memorization ? The scattered waves (those with tiny gaps) seemed pretty random to me . Should I try to move through them or just position myself between the gaps ?

VoWG is partially static, partially random, all awesome.  Sapz, who is a crazy bastard, likes to dodge through lines of talismans.  I prefer to weave around them (my capture video has me go through one line; Sapz I think goes through 8 or 9).

If you're insane enough to try it no-focus, don't try to go through them unless you are supremely confident.

I've been saying this for ages, but despite me even making videos of both routes showing this, nobody seems to believe me.

Anyways, SWR normal 1cc. I failed the first time I tried this last night. Since then I've learned two things that made this a one death run:

1. 5c
2. Gap

5c is the perfect attack against spell cards and gapping makes everything Suika has (especially Missing Purple Power)a complete joke. In fact...

I'm purposefully not going to use Yukari at all this time because I won't feel accomplished. If I want to beat this, then hell, I'm going to do it right! Someone who faces Iku's last spell card and Tenshi! YEAH!!!!!

Hmm...I wonder if Youmu is as impossible to use as she was in IaMP? I wouldn't mind trying her out~

And look, full screen coverage, full decent range homing and four bombs per life is pretty wicked yet I still can't 1cc the game arrrrrgh.  And I play the shot type and love Sakuya.  Just ask Donut for real ranting.

I'd be a hypocrite if I looked down on others for using the best character/shot type. I'm not, I'm just determined to earn my lunatic 1cc the hard way this time.

Anyways, as per Baity's request I recorded myself playing MS extra with Yuka, and it was actually pretty amazing. I do all of Alice until her eighth phase on one bomb (used on her fourth phase for the curious). The problem is that I don't know how to handle the eighth phase at all. The part that makes me question whether I should upload this is because I miss out on a one death clear because I die just as Alice is exploding. D=

As for me, through that magic savestate button (screw you theshim using this to learn patterns has severely improved my play already), I learned EX Alice's eighth phase and on a second run beat the last two phases that marred my otherwise great run before that. Since I recorded both, my plan is to upload the first run in its entirety, then upload the second cut to include the last two phases in it as a bonus.

Really, it's not that bad, especially "VoPB" (or equivalent). Overrated difficulty there. There's not much excuse for the Lunatic-level players to mess it up. Are people that bad at dodging bullets from the top of the screen or something?[/rant]
I'll perfect S5 when I catch up on sleep and get back from my morning lecture. Personally, I find it about as difficult / frustrating as SA S5.

The advantage of crazy bastard-esque tactics is that you don't have to be looking all around the screen for gaps. The micrododging method works better for me because I suck at looking around the screen then I can just concentrate on what's coming straight at me... to the degree that I still ended up using it for the no focus capture. :V

Aside from the first few waves, VoWG is (as far as I'm aware) a static pattern that gets rotated around at a random angle, so you can sort-of-memorize individual waves but not the whole thing since they'll all be appearing in a random order. :V
