score.dat reset
« on: September 22, 2009, 03:52:15 AM »
Still giddy about the just-installed vsync patch, I notice to my dismay that my PCB score.dat has been wiped out. 0/141 cards captured. Not that the vsync patch has anything to do with it since I was jumping between games and it was showing the card history just fine.... but now it's gone.

If I remember correcly I even selected "extra start", decided to go back and check scores and card history to decide on who to play, and then there were none (wait, what?). Any ideas on, at least, why did it happen, and how to keep it from happening again? Unlocking everything isn't a problem, and having a "clean" card history for the newly-installed patch isn't that awful, but if starts to happen every now and then it will be.... annoying, even if making backups of the score.dat files is now a priority no matter what.

If I remember correctly, in certain touhou games, playing an english exe and then switching to japanese would zero out the count for any spellcard you encounter. EoSD didn't do this to me, but I recall having to restore either PCB or IN (can't remember) from a backup I made by coincidence.

Maybe someone should make a list of touhou games that mess up your score file?

Ah, so that's what I did. I certainly did start the japanese exe at least once. It zeroed out every card, by the way, not just the ones I encountered. Thanks a lot.

Err, my UFO score data reset, and I never touched the japanese exe.

Any ideas?

Sure, it's not like unlocking Extra again for everybody is going to be hard, but still.

No idea either, just adding that it also happened to me with UFO several minutes ago.  Never downloaded the English patch but I did try out the vsync patch once a little over a week ago.  Probably just coincidence, but I downloaded a file from here and noticed that a line was running across the title screen at the level of Reimu's head when starting up the game.  I thought nothing of it.  Didn't realize the score.dat wipe until I was playing one of my own runs to study and noticed the high score was no longer there.

It wasn't a complete reset, however.  The records for Reimu-A/B and Marisa-A are intact along with the spell history, but all the spells are unnamed and greyed out as though they were never seen.  Nothing unlocked in the music room except for the title song, Extra is completely locked, but the practice and game start does recognize the clears for those three shot types and has a stamp.  Ah...I'm a little saddened.
