Fantasy Maiden Wars Bug

I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I don't see a thread relating to it and I don't see any info about it in the related threads.

So I beat FMW Scarlet, saved my data, tried to copy it over to FMW Mystic. It gets through the opening cut scene with Yuyuyko, Youmu and Yukari, but once the battle starts...



No stage title appears, no opening dialogue, these yukkuris don't have the spawn effect that normally happens when a unit enters the field, they just pop up. Can't pause, can't perform any commands. It starts out with 1 Reimu and 1 Marisa, and over time they just keep spawning more and more.

This only occurs when I try to transfer my save data. If I start a brand new game I can play normally. I haven't tried with anyone else's transferred save data.

It's also worth pointing out that both FMW S and FMW M are the english patched versions. Because I'm dumb I no longer have the clean versions of either, so I'm not sure if this is an issue with the patches or not.

It's possible that I might just be installing the save data wrong. I put my old save file into the save data folder, click new game, then a prompt comes up asking me if I want to transfer data. I say yes, start the game, then this happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

I personally didn't have the problem when importing my savegames. I did it exactly as you described it and it worked for me.
If you could provide me with your savegames I can test whether they work on my version of the english patch. If they don't, the problem is most likely related to your savefiles.
If they do, you should try to reinstall the game/patch.

Fortunately your savefiles are working, so you will probably want to reinstall the game/patch.
I had no problems using your saves at all as you can see in the picture.
I don't know what could possibly cause this bug to happen.
Maybe you should try to redownload the patch and replace your data5.dat with the latest version of the patch, and make sure
to set your computer to a Japanese locale or use an emulator for that. ( I am personally using ntleas) since
there are still Japanese characters in the game. I also found it helpful sometimes to run the game in compatibility mode.

Let me know if any of the above are the issue.

Wow none of that worked, not even reinstalling the game. I got a friend to try it with my save file as well and he got the infinite yukkuris like I did. There isn't some kind of 1.00b patch or something that I'm missing , is there?

If you can do either of these, it might help shed some light on things.
If you happen to have one, would you mind sending me a save file of a completed FMW1 game? So I can see if I can transfer that.
Also, since you can run my save file in Mystic, can you make a quick save and send it to me? I'd like to see what happens if I load/quick load rather than start a new game. Of course, you'd want to back up your own quick save if you can do this.

Actually, my game is running Version  1.0.6.1 so if you haven't already go to http://ux.getuploader.com/sanbondo and get and apply all gsw02 patches.

It includes my clear data for both routes from the first game as well as a quicksave of mission 16 with your save files.

Aaaah... it seems they don't have a 1.0.0 -> 1.0.1 patch, and I can't install any of the other patches until I have 1.0.1. That's probably where the issue is. At least, that's how it seems. I guess that can't be helped then.

Unless you have a solution or I'm misunderstanding something (I don't know any japanese so I'm relying on common sense and google translate), I suppose I'll just have to start a brand new game XP. Thank you for helping me this far.

By the way, the bug still occurred using your save files, and the game just crashes if I try to load a quick save.

I don't speak Japanese either but I found this on Sanbondos Japanese website using google translate:

Thats a package of all patches from 1.0.0 to 1.0.8. With that you should be able to patch your game.
I think that might be where I got the patches from too but I didn't remember until now since thats quite some time ago.

Anyways. I hope you will finally be able to play the game that way.

Sooooooo.... I hate to be a bother, but I'm back here again, this time with Eternal.

When I start up the game, I sometimes get a text box stating

"failed to create font spr: font_rodin_##.fnt"

## changes each time I run it, though I've seen 13 show up frequently. I don't always get this message, and it happens pretty randomly. Sometimes I get 2 or 3 "failed to create font" notices, other times I get 0.

What IS consistent is that there are always missing textures and text. Face portraits are replaced with a [?], those yukkuri unit sprites are invisible, I can't see the unit's hp, their chance of evasion, their attacks. Exactly which textures/text are missing varies each time, but something is always missing, and it becomes difficult to play the game like this.

I made sure this time, I'm running version 1.1.2 without the english patch. These issue occur whether carrying over data or starting a new game. I tried using a friend's save data and got the same result. I'm running my computer in Japanese locale. According to the wiki, my computer meets all the requirements to play this game. I also tried running it on a friend's computer, and it worked fine- I didn't just send them my save, I installed the entire game on their computer and it ran perfectly.

I'm pretty sure the issue here has something to do with my computer, but I'm not sure what could be causing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

That's strange.

I tried to recreate the error, playing with and without the English patch, using a locale Emulator and not using one,
running the program in compatibility or as an administrator but no matter what I do, the game is working fine for me so I can't exactly tell what the problem is.

I have version 1.1.2 too so it is likely that the problem has something to do with you computer.
If you haven't already, run the game in windows vista or XP compatibility mode
or try to copy the data files from your friends PC and try to run the game with them. (Maybe your data got corrupted somehow?)

If you already tried that or it doesn't work I have no Idea what the issue could be unfortunately.

Yeah, I didn't think of running it as an administrator or in compatability mode, but neither of those seemed to help. It's probably something wrong with my computer. I plan to get a newer one in a month or two anyway, so I suppose I'll just hold off on this game until I do. If I have problems after that I'll be back here >_<
