Pfff, did you really have to remind us of that infamous scene from Sonic '06? :V
Yes. I was a former Sonic fan (Thank God I didn't have Wii U, Although I really wanted to play Xenoblade Chronicle X). And besides, he's just asking for it since he ripped his master plan from Mephiles.

Gatekeeper Chapter - Superboss.

But It'll be fun beating the shit outta final boss with Flan. Then again...

Gatekeeper Chapter - Part 3 - Gatekeeper of SDM
Final Boss Fight

Curbstomp battle of epic proportion.

As there's only 1 chapter left, I'm going to skip the voting session and head straight to Wild West Chapter

Ookay, I've been looking through this, but I couldn't find the exact reference. Shamed yet again by my lack of knowledge. :fail:

I know this is very late, but have anyone of you noticed that the explosion sprites, as well as some of the enemies in the Hourai chapter are actually taken from the Metal Slug series?
To elaborate about the Hourai chapter's enemies:
Girida - well, the Girida-O tanks
Buzz-Buzz and Blue Alert - the Patrol Robots
The three robots that accompanies Rikako - the mechanical Units from Metal Slug 5. Heck, the devs didn't even bother modifying the sprites!
Also, the alert sound effect that is heard when the Buzz-Buzz and Blue Alert cast their buffs wasn't recognized anywhere... until I heard that very same sound effect being used in Metal Slug Defense which was released just two years ago, several years later than Touhou-A-Live.
There's nothing inscribed on the dog tag...

If you don't know it, chance are I won't either,

Cool, I used to play Metal Slug Defense as well. I only don't notice the Patrol Bot. Actually, the devs actually bothered to, the enemies all have facing-back sprites (Back-left, Back-Right), the enemies in Metal Slug don't face back. I checked.  Also, Live-A-Live doesn't have any explosion effect.

You know, I'm glad Sephiroth wasn't there, or else he would've gone ape at the very mention of Rei Jenova.
(In case you don't get the joke, two hints: Dissidia, Machinima.)

Sorry, I don't know anything about Machinima.

Wild West Chapter - Part 2 - Two Man Army
Final Boss Fight

You see this chapter? This is the best chapter in this game and my favorite chapter ever! This chapter's also very long, it's almost 4 times the length of other chapter. Give me 4 days (24 April) and I will play this chapter. Man, I can't wait to play it.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Machinima.
I was referring to this specifically (skip to 2:44 to see the scene in question).

Anyway, wonder which was the red herring in regards to who this game's Oersted/
Spoiler:
Odio
counterpart is...

Let's recheck the final bosses' names again, shall we?

Kedama: dRAYGIon
Meiling: RAY JIhad
Youmu: guREI JIrou
Ran: REY JEnova
Cirno: gungREY JIbalt
Mokou: cindleman REJE
Shang: REI-IJI

You see the caps? RAYGI, RAY JI, REI JI, REY JE, REY JI, REJE, and REI-IJI.
I wonder what triggered the RAGE that led to the birth of TAL's Odio equivalent? Since Mima was supposed to be TAL's Oersted equivalent, we all can guess how her chapter is going to end...

I actually don't notice the Reiiji part on Draygion name.

Rage to the world perhaps? I don't know, me and my friend were to busy cracking up on how the stupid the name is. Yes, we know how the chapter ends, but as Leon = Helsing said, there'll be a red herring, and besides, the fun of this chapter is seeing their suffering and struggle.

Well, there are quite a few deviations from the original, but I guess it's still safe to say that this is gonna be pretty hard to watch.

Why is it hard to watch?

Oh, you know. Betrayal. Despair. I'm guessing this won't deviate that much from the original Medieval chapter.

About the Fantasy chapter (salty rant incoming, spoilers if you haven't seen the whole chapter, etc)...
Spoiler:
Honestly, I think it goes way too far into the territory of trying to be super EDGY AND DARK, plus it lasts like five times longer than it needs to. It's sooooo. Soooooooo long. SOOOO LONG HOLY CRUD. And it tries so hard to be edgy that eventually it starts just making me want to facepalm and groan repeatedly... and the ending is handled really badly. Mima instantly heel-face-turns after so much buildup it just feels really forced, and Reimu's death is so tacked on after-the-fact that it almost hurts. I wouldn't care so much if it didn't take forever to slog through it. Also doesn't help the translation patch tends to bug up and permanently destroy your save file after a certain boss fight numerous hours into the chapter, with lots of time to unknowingly save before you find out it's broken! (Yeah, you should definitely safety-save in a different slot right before the Alice fight)
<mauvecow> see this is how evil works in reality, it just wears you down with bureaucracy until you don't care anymore

Oh, I see. You can add one to the list:
Spoiler:
War is Hell. 'Cause that's the theme for Chapter 2

About the Fantasy chapter (salty rant incoming, spoilers if you haven't seen the whole chapter, etc)...
Well, I already played that Chapter once.
Spoiler:
I agree that the chapter is way too dark, the thing is, after I played it once, I can detach myself from the game. In fact, the only chapter I care about is Hourai. I think it's better if Reimu's the one who become Rage, it'll be cool y'know, and it's because it's Reimu who breaks first from all the tragedy. Someone already tipped me about the bug in SMT!Alice fight, so I can prepare for it well in advance.
And besides...

[attach=1]
I always save sequentially. So, one broken save file means I only get to back track a little. Still, thank you for the tips, and I kind of understand your complain. Guess this chapter is hard to watch after all.

Fantasy Chapter 1 - Part 2

I don't remember going THIS far to reach Demon Tower back in Live-A-Live.

Huh, it does smell somewhat suspiciously of padding.

...No, not that kind of padding. That joke's gotten kinda old anyway.

Serela

  • VIA PIZZA SLINGING
The original chapter in Live-A-Live is a small fraction the length of the Touhou-A-Live chapter (Wheras the others are all roughly similar in length), so yeah, there's a lot of that. You could probably beat every other chapter in the game (not counting final... probably...) in less time than Fantasy takes :V

The HP growth is really low because if you don't run a whole lot you'll be well over lv20 before you finish.

Indeed... let's hope the next chapters are devoid of padding.

The HP growth is really low because if you don't run a whole lot you'll be well over lv20 before you finish.
Really...?! Whoa... I remember I finished the original chapter in Live-A-Live at Lv12, and that's because I needed lv12 skill to beat the next boss.

I guess they removed some of the areas/ideas because they figured it was long enough already XD This was around the point where I was getting to "Okay, seriously... can this be nearly over now?" There's a lot of random fights and they get sorta samey to do over and over. You're supposed to fight until you're tired of the system in the -final- chapter. XD
