What would you truly be in a RPG ?
« on: February 09, 2016, 09:54:27 PM »
I don't know if here is the right place or if it should be in the Cafe, but here we go.

So, what would you really be in a RPG game ? Magic, Antique Weaponry (Swords, Shields, Bows, Maces, Axes, Spears, Daggers, etc.), Guns, Machinery (Constructs, explosives, etc.), pretty much everything you could find on a game like that.
You should consider stuff like: Dexterity, Weapon Affinity, Intelligence, Strength, Constitution, Talents, and localization (If you were born on a Desert, you'd be more resistant to Fire att. for example, or if you spent a lot of time on lakes or the sea, you'd be comfortable with Water, etc.), weaknesses, anything that makes part of yourself.
Multiple Paths, like being able to be a Dark Magic User (Dark Magic ISN'T EVIL ! What matters is how you use it !!) or being a Rogue or being a Archer, are allowed as long as you can explain why you could be them. And if they aren't too many.

Shall we start ? (I hope this goes well)

Sincerely, i could only be a Mage specialized either in Water, Earth or Light, since i'm very comfortable with nature, the sea and the brighter the place, the better for me. I'm not too fond of Fire or heat, but i don't dislike it either, i'm pretty aversed towards Cold and Ice, even though i try to expose myself to those factors so i can handle them better. My constitution is small and i'm not strong at all, less than average (But way higher than Patchouli's Standards), i am though relatively agile, so i could be a swordsman, assuming i used only light-weight gear and focused for a swift and precise technique. I can't handle axes and lances don't seem to be for me. bows might get my attention, but i'm not into it much since i'll be a sitting duck on close quarters, i could only carry small arms if i were to use guns, and i'm 100% sure if i built something it would probably backfire on me.
tl;dr: Light/Water/Earth Mage, Swordsman (Myrmidon in FE Terms).

Hope this was a good idea, if not i'll just abandon the post.

One Hander
As in uses One-Handed Weapons such as Daggers and Short Swords or some meaning i don't get ?
If so, you could be an Assassin or Rogue, however your average-low agility holds that back, your intelligence however could be used learn magic related to Stealth, covering that up by using stuff like Cloaking, Illusions, and Distractions, that could also combine to your skill with energy weaponry, enhancing them with Magical Energy, such as Elemental, Light and Dark, giving you more power to cover for the low Strength stat. Your Luck Stat is amazingly high, giving you greater chance of critical strikes, avoiding or parrying attacks and even in finding treasures though the places. Being a night dweller, you aren't affected as much by darkness as others are, and you are better at lurking at shadows, boosting your Stealth. Resulting in you being a Illusionist Rogue, having low raw power and being fragile, but getting compensated by having High Magical potential, Covert Ops and Lady Luck herself on your side, your Charisma doesn't affect much but can get you some shop discounts and neat treats once in a while.

Have you ever seen that Dungeons And Dragons real life stats calculator thing?

http://www.kevinhaw.com/add_quiz.php

These were my results:

Str: 8
Dex: 5
Con: 8
Int: 13
Wis: 14
Cha: 10

I'm clumsy sure, but 5? Ouch. :V

Given those stats and my profession there's only one possible class I could be: Item shop vendor. :V
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.

Well, this thread should get interesting. It would be cool to eventually move this to the Roleplay thread and do some balancing and stuff, but that might get too complicated. Anyways, here we go:

Class: Gunner sounds the most like me, considering I'm not all that strong, but my aim, in general, is pretty dang good. I welcome attack chaining, and loud gunshots are definitely my thing.

Attack Infusion (?): Well, a decent amount of RPG games don't have specific elemental weapons, but rather an element that infuses your attacks, creating strengths and weaknesses. For me, I think that would be Lightning or something like that, citing my neverending use of some electronic device, and I just think electricity is cool.

Stat Bonuses/Flaws: I would almost certainly have above average speed, and below average strength.

Weapon: Well, since this is an RPG, in theory I have an infinite amount of ammo, but limited MP. I'm almost positive I would have dual pistols or something cool like that, but they wouldn't be gunmetal. They would be pink steel because I'm that cool.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Funny enough, I did that real-life D&D quiz, and got the following:
STR: 10
INT: 13
WIS: 10
DEX: 10
CON: 8
CHR: 11

Based on class situation: I would adjust mine to:
STR: 9
INT: 12
WIS: 10
DEX: 12
CON: 8
CHR: 11

Due to A: being ranged, and B: theoretically having infinite ammo.

Hmm...the stats quiz gave me the following:

STR: 8
INT: 17
WIS: 13
DEX: 10
CON: 10
CHR: 8

In life, I've always been the scholarly type who doesn't do much physical activity. Probably makes me a Mage/Wizard of some type. I love the cold and am generally feeling too hot most of the time, so Ice would probably work. I can't survive without some sunlight, so Light could work too.

The D&D character quiz linked to the stats quiz pinned me as a Lawful/Neutral Good Elf Wizard, which is probably a bit boringly common, but hey, it is what it is.

Marisa Kirisame is basically my life's role model, so ideally I would become something akin to her in a fantasy world. I guess in DnD terms I'd be a Chaotic Good Catgirl Sorcerer. A catgirl because my other life's dream is to become the catgirl that I truly am, in my heart, for real.

I'd be highly satisfied being like someone that Marisa is. Living in a place I stake and claim as my own. Playing by my own rules, free to explore whatever I want, take what I think is interesting (as long as it doesn't have a huge negative impact on others), and being who I want to be.
Not needing the physical strength to fight through challenge, but having the raw strength of skill and power to brute force my way through anyone I can't use my wit to overcome.
Not an active threat to the community (far from it). In fact, helping the community from great dangers, having people who like me as a friend and see past my quirks. My bad habits and negative traits merely a small price to pay for my usefulness as a person and a friend.
A friend to those who accept me for what I am, but nonconforming and uncaring to those who would rather see me change. I'm my own greatest priority, but friends come a close second to what's most important in life.

8I didn't really want to work with the D&D stat quiz, but since people are more comfortable with it. Okay. And actually one could do some sort of Fire Emblemry game or RPG on the party games with this.
And i also use Marisa as a rolemodel, but we would definitely have our argues and a book stealing war (Grimoire of Marisa is sure a nice target after all), i don't agree with having myself being the greatest priority, far from it actually. And in alignment, i'd fall i something like Justice for All Good.

Are these good, bad, or average? I actually know nearly nothing about DnD so I couldn't properly gauge the quiz results.

Hard to say if using real life - I've changed enough over the years that it's hard to say. I used to really prefer the cold and despise the heat, but the extremes have mellowed out over the years. I used to be really active being generally mischievous and just an incredible pain to all my elders, but less so now, though I can still perform many of the crazy things I used to do if I wanted. I could go into a lot more detail, but I don't wanna turn this into life story time.

I guess for what it's worth, whenever I pick up an mmorpg or similar game to play with friends, I usually end up being some sword-swinging guy (if different weapons are a thing) that's open to other possibilities, yet somehow always end up being vastly higher in nearly all statistics and skill compared to most of my peers. I swear I don't do this intentionally...

"Can you imbibe huge amounts of alcohol without suffering unduly from it" - not sure if answering this as "yes" is good or bad

  STR:12
  INT:15
  WIS:16
  DEX:14
  CON:13
  CHR:9

I was sure that Charm would be lower  :o
In RPGs I usually never pick a range class first. Usually I'm get something with a sword or an axe. I have some experience with bows in real life, though.
With good sword skills it is possible to survive in a harsh world, but with some skill in a bow, you don't have to get into unnecessary danger.

Consider that I'm introvert, I would usually go as lone wolf, or with a companion that doesn't require the need to talk. (Meatdog!)

I would be something like a wanderer / ranger that prefers melee.

Even though I like the concept of magic, I'd rather not go that path. But knowing some "tricks" could get handy, especially if you can outwit your opponent with it.
I would consider myself Neutral good.

I wish that the quiz could take into account people like who who've say... never really consumed alcohol in any notable amount before, so I couldn't answer that one. Either way, I just answered honestly or on the safe side (I assume that's a feat that's rare to see so I just put no), and let the system do its thing.

Yeah, this is kinda hard to know. Alcohol is tricky, habits can get into the alcohol tolerance, as well as you fitness / weight and stuff.

10 is average, so I think that puts your results at "near-superhuman" overall. I believe that quiz is based on D&D 3.5, which makes 18 peak human potential. :V I'll take a look at the Player's Handbook later, but those stats may actually be higher than it's possible to give a first-level human overall.

Your stats are:
STR:9 (this should probably be lower since I don't consider myself that strong)
  INT:15
  WIS:11
  DEX:7
  CON:12
  CHR:8

I prefer being support/tank. Weapon of choice would be fists/knuckles with the occasional sidearm and dagger. If I were to do magic, minor wound healing and first aid with self buffs for attack and defense. Passives...rage. Low HP = higher attack kind of thing.

According to the D&D 3.5 Dungeon Master's Guide (I always forget the table is there instead of the Player's handbook) your stats cost 46 points to buy, which is significantly higher than the highest-powered characters the rules allow (32 points).

For the record, this is the table, formatted as ability score: point cost.

9: 1
10: 2
11: 3
12: 4
13: 5
14: 6
15: 8
16: 10
17: 13
18: 16

Normal characters get 25 points to buy with, but the game also offers 15, 22, 28, or 32-point charactera depending on the game difficulty. Less points equals a harder game, obviously.

And for those unfamiliar with D&D stats, 10 is average for a human and every 2 points above or below 10 gives a +1 or -1 bonus to all rolls related to that stat. So 10-11 is +0, 8-9 is -1, 18 is +4, and so on.
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.

Well another thing with 3.5e, if I remember correctly, is that those stats go up or down based on Class, Race, and Physique.

In 3.5 (at least in core rules) the only thing that alters base stats is race. Some races get +2 to one stat and -2 to another (except half-orcs and orcs who get -2 to two things and +2 to only one, which is why they suuuuuck), which puts their peak potential at 20. Humans don't get that though.

Stats can later be increased by leveling up (which only increases then a tiny amount over quite a long time), magic, equipment, and other various weird happenings.

One notable thing that effects stats is age though. Starting at age 35 (and again at 53 and 70) in humans your physical stats naturally decrease and your mental stats naturally increase.

Race:
Human

Class:
Jack-of-All-Trades/Rogue

Skills:
Situation-Adaptable(literally only this)

Class Traits:

Higher and faster growth curve of Skill Level vs Time graph in earlier levels; Progressively slower in later levels.
Can use up to 4 physical weapon types.
Can use basic to intermediate levels of white or black magics; Depending on Science vs Magic knowledge graph.
Can build basic to intermediate levels of gizmos/gadgets; Depending on Science vs Magic knowledge graph.
Can use any class' basic to intermediate level skills; Depending on Advance skills a few class' skills.
Can use advance levels of class skills of up to 2 classes; Can use only 1 class' advance skills to use more intermediate skills of other classes.

Individual Positive Traits:
Ambidextrous
More towards Physics/Tech/Science

Individual Negative Traits:
Near-sighted; Needs correction eyewear, eg. glasses or contacts
Very slightly short attention span

Alignment:
Chaotic Good
"It's for f-ing justice, and I don't care if I have laws to break or if I literally become the enemy of the world!(RPG)"

Stats: based on the quiz
STR: 15.3?
INT: 16
WIS: 16
DEX: 14
CON: 14
CHR: 15

Explanation:
I've always been a fan of RPGs that have characters that can use multi-class skills, and weapons. They're practically always my favorite class, due to the learning curve it takes to actually utilize different skills and make them very combat-efficient.

Stats, IRL, I can bench press 250 lbs, but I can military press atleast 180 lbs. All in 8 reps, and 4 sets in both, but that's during at my peak, being the first one(s) on my list on the chest/back/delts/traps group day. So I guess that puts me in-between 15-16 str?

Alignment, just stems from characters I've liked that are good, but not heroic.

Also, having a degree in engineering makes me lean towards Science over Magic. And yes, I do wear glasses, I'll probably get laser eye surgery, but not anytime soon.

I can't really post the results of my quiz, as there's a lot of questions I can't definitively say yes or no to, so my results would just be muddled.

That said, I'm probably straight across the board, in the 9-11 range, and I've always had a large affinity to red mages and rogues; I've found that it's a lot easier to do things when you can do a fair bit of everything.

Stats according to the quiz posted higher up:

  STR:6
  INT:13
  WIS:13
  DEX:4
  CON:7
CHR:10 [Although the 'slick/charming/dear' one I was borderline on; I'm somewhat often called cute; which isn't listed.  Ticking that put me at 11. More for my mannerisms than my appearance.]
[Bonus: Luck: 0]

Also I'll just point out the stats I rolled are incredibly low compared to most people in general. Admittedly due to my terrible DEX and CON and STR. Also I don't feel my DEX should be lower than my STR but hey, I am so bad I cannot even ride a bike let alone a car. 44 total is low. Also a CHR score of 10 [Maybe 11] surprises me; hell; it's higher than a lot of people here.

===

Anyway; ignoring the above for a moment; if you plonked me into a RPG setting; I'd probobly be a Wind Mage of sorts. Wind is a pretty flexible element. I mean Wind Magic is the sort of magic that could be used to knock away projectiles; or speed yourself up; or add extra force to your blows; or allow you to fly; or wreck things with tornadoes; and the list of applications goes on and on.

I couldn't see myself taking up a non-magical form of combat. About the only physical thing I'm good at is sprinting and keeping up a long-term fastwalk. I have powerful legs but no real stamina to run or jog long distances. I'm pathetic when it comes to upper body strength. So yeah, I'll happily sit back and blast things with wind, or enhance my allies with favorable winds, or deflect projectiles.

NPCs have stats too  :V, they also have background / lore.
Actually, NPCs can be way deeper than any playable character could ever be, because playable characters in RPGs are empty shells to project yourself to, most of the time.
