RPG Maker MV - Now with HTML5 support and Javascripting!
« on: October 03, 2015, 06:08:02 AM »
Dear god it's happening! The full release for MV is on Oct. 23 and boy does it come with a tons of improved features. If you want a better read the link is here:

http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/products/programs/rpg-maker-mv

But I'll still talk about some of my favorite functions here.

New Resolution:
VX and VX Ace used 544 x 416 with character sprites being in 32 x 32. With MV we now get a higher resolution with 816 x 624 and characters now in 48 x 48
Bigger screens and more detail to add to characters are always welcome in my book!

Three map layers:
While it might not seem like a big deal it's more convenience then anything. Now you don't need to worry about two trees over lapping each other in weird ways.

Battle system:
Normally rpg maker games are in a forward viewing mode but with the help of a script you can things like animated battlers for a FF style of combat. Well now with the click of a tab you can change it from front view to side view!

Plugin Manager:
With the addition of Javascript the managing for your "scripts" is a lot easier. From what I can tell the manger makes it easier to edit the contents instead of exploring through rgss301 coding.

What else I love about this is that you can now play the game with mouse or touch screen which makes making a SRPG easier, in fact someone on the RPGM website is already working on one as well. Also to note that if you pre order you get access to some plugins by scripters that are big in the community like Yami and Yanfly. This is a pretty tempting offer, I don't really support pre ordering but I may break that with this...

Anyone else thoughts?

You had me at "SRPG." I only saw like one take on the SRPG in this engine, and it wasn't very good. I'm looking forward to what this new engine will bring!

> Over 70 bucks -- Err, maybe I'll wait for a steam sale. ^^;;; I'm sure those plugins are free elsewhere, right?

I don't know what Yami's policy is these days, but just saying that Yanfly's plugins will also be available on release even without preorder, for free as usual.

And if you want to support his development, he has set up a patreon account. You don't have to donate to get scripts since he'll still make them for all regardless, but it would be appreciated.

It costs an arm and a leg though! Hngg... I do look forward to one or two gems from the new RPGMaker. Funny they finally make the cover art characters available.

God damnit.  Of course RPGMV is coming out when I am going to be flat broke for an indeterminate amount of time.

Not that I should get excited considering my tradition of not finishing any RPG I start whooops

Agreed, it wouldn't make sense for Yanfly to not release those plugins. I don't even know what the plugins will be if you pre order.

$71 - $80 does hit the wallet hard, but looking at the cost of past engines at release the price only goes up by $10 each time. XP was $60, VX/Ace was $70 if I recall. But then again I was early in getting Ace so when I learned a humble bundle about 6 months later it was $15, I wanted to cry, but I did but in over 260 hours in Ace so I got my moneys worth.

I know what you mean, need to keep what money I have for an emergency lol. I was a little angry of this coming out since my game is starting to make some form of progress but as long as the tool in MV make it easier to make the sprites I made for Ace porting progress over shouldn't be too hard.

Also to note the RTP for MV also contains Sci-fi and Modern tiles sets along with the default medieval set, so now some variety at the start seems nice!

I've been hearing about this a bit and even though I'm liking what's going to be included (dat character generator), I'm not sure if I'll really get it. I mean, I'm still getting used to VXAce so, I might not jump ship on release. I'll definitely consider getting it though if all the scripters jump too.

I never got around to making anything, and I've had a lot of ideas over the past 12 or 13 years. I do have VX (misspelled that as "BX" at first, lol srw nerd), so maybe I should putz around with that sometime.
I need an option, a reason, and some hope.

By the by, if you're into getting VX Ace NOW, with all of its DLC? https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/game-makers-mega-bundle
That's a pretty big discount.

Trial Version is available, started playing with it! Let's see if I can finish a game within the trial period.

Is the character generator in the trial?

Everything's in the trial (that I can tell), you just only have 20 days to finish a game!

Actual issue I have: the descriptions for the plugin editor for example are all transparant, so it's impossible to read (when you hover over the icon; the plugin editor itself is fine).
Other issue I have: the DRM opener looks awful and shoddy and terrible and horrid.
