And yeah, it's kind of old news, but I didn't really notice it except for having some videos region blocked.

My guess would be because of the copyright laws in place in the US.

I'll be honest when I say everyone wants to get rich, that means selling your best asset. Youtube is a bit on the matured product side, I'd say overselling its appeal is what killed it.
