Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta - the mystery box edition
« on: May 28, 2015, 10:20:07 PM »
The registrations for the year are now open! (<- link)
(Note: It wasn't supposed to be open for a couple more days; not all pages/rulesets are currently fully updated.  You may wish to actually wait a couple days to register.  Whoops.)

Q: What is this?
A: A month-and-a-half long charity marathon benefitting Child's Play.  Play Final Fantasy V, on whatever platform you want (SNES, PS1, GBA, iOS, emulator), with the jobs given to you by the custom RNG bot, Gilgabot!

Q: When does it start?
"The fiesta begins June 22 0:00 EDT!"
That said, you can register today!
(It runs for about a month and a half to two months, so there's plenty of time and no rush.  You can even register once the fiesta has begun, register for multiple runs, etc!)

Q: What do I need to sign up?
A: A twitter account.  That's it.  You can totally make a throwaway twitter account for this; just make sure you will be able to remember the password.  It's used to tweet at Gilgabot for commands, such as signing up, revealing jobs, and reporting victories

Q: How does the four job thing work?
A: This depends on whether you play Standard or Natural Only rules.
In Standard, once you get your first crystal and reveal your first job, your entire party will be locked into that job.  As you get the new jobs, you need to have one representative of each available job at all times (excluding when you have insufficient party members to do so).  You can swap jobs as often as you want within that limitation, and mix and match the abilities you learn freely.
In Natural Only, each character is locked to Freelancer until you get their respective crystal - at which point the character is locked forever into whatever job you got for that crystal.  No mixing and matching jobs.  This is the tougher one by a significant margin!

Q: What about this "No 750" or "Classic" or...?
A: There's several sets of runs that affect what classes you can obtain...
In Regular, you will receive one random Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth job at each crystal.
In Random, you can receive at each crystal, any job that you haven't obtained yet that is now available.  For instance, the Water crystal may also unlock a new Wind job instead, and the Earth could hand you any job in the game.  You're more likely to receive jobs from the first crystals as a result, and very unlikely to see an Earth crystal job.
Team 750 and Team No 750 divide the classes in half, primarily based on their access to the rod-breaking strategies (Hence the name, as rods cost 750), but also in general theme.  You will gain one available class from each crystal
Team 750 can draw:  White Mage/Black Mage/Blue Mage  ;  Time Mage/Summoner/Red Mage  ;  Geomancer/Bard  ;  Chemist/Dancer
Team No 750 can draw: Thief/Monk/Knight ; Mystic Knight/Berserker ; Ninja/Beastmaster/Ranger ; Dragoon/Samurai
Classic will assign you one of the six original FF1 classes at each job, and can assign you multiples of the same job.  This is automatically under Natural Only rules, as above.  Could be potentially hellish (four white mages is a legit risk)

Q: And the new "Chaos" rule?
A: ~*~it is a mystery~*~

Q: Berserker Risk?
A: Based on the amount of donations received before preregistration ends vs the number of players who signed up for this, those players will receive 0-3 automatic Berserkers among their classes!  They're quite a challenging class to work with due to really being entirely out of your control, but that doesn't mean they're bad.  Just brace yourself!

Q: I don't know Final Fantasy V that well...
A: That's why I wrote this!  It's a handbook specifically oriented towards the FJF that covers more or less everything you'd ever want to know to make the most of the game's mechanics, the classes you've drawn, to help you figure out boss strategies, etc.  Also, MotK has several veterans of this challenge, and we'll always be available to offer a helping hand if you stumble or just run face first into a brick wall.
And yes, this is totally a great excuse to play FFV for the first time!

Oh man, it's time again!

Unfortunately last year I ended up giving up in World 2 Exdeath's castle. I got completely shafted on jobs (Thief, Berserker, Beastmaster, Dragoon, which is arguably the worst possible setup) and didn't have the fortitude to see it through.

I'm considering doing a Team 750 run this year because in the last two years I haven't gotten a single MP-using job. And I got Berserker both times! Come the fuck on!

I got two Berserkers last time, so I just said "NOPE!" and quit last year. I'll try again this year, if only to see how CHAOS MODE works.

I had a great team last year but I just ran out of steam on an out-of-game level. I'll at least reg this year and see how it goes - Chaos Mode if that's something that interests me, Random otherwise.

Chaos (#RegChaos)

Players will be assigned jobs.

That's literally all the site says right now about Chaos.  Nobody knows~

I dropped out too right before the final battle (I had to do some grinding for levels to have the HP and just... never got around to it).  This year, no Risk or Natural challenge for me - though I'm totally going to faceplant Chaos.

chaos mode oh bby

I'm going to hold off on registering/donating until the website looks like it's 100% up.  Poking around on the twitter suggests the June 22nd start date miiiiight be incorrect, which I sure hope so because aaaaaaa so hype to start!

There was a discussion earlier in last year's thread about this. And then you drew it. The odds were less than 0.1% and it still happened.

Anything different than last year for me. Last year I learned that bearserkers could tank well while still being punchy, that dancers can go from nothing to the bee's knees when the sword dance equips and chicken knife came along, and that ninjers started awesome, stayed awesome, and were incredibly reliable for damage.

Oh I also learned that I have way too much to learn about blue mages. The whole cast-Missile-25-times-for-4-hits on the guardian crystal bosses in world 2 still gets to me.

I'm curious to know what Chaos mode is, but after getting beaten down by no-class switching runs the past two years, I decided to play it safe and loosen up with a normal run this year.

I feel kind of ashamed that I didn't really do much with my Classic run last year. I got as far as the Forest of Moore in the second world, then ran out of steam there. I'm definitely going to try to finish the game this time around.

Looking forward to what this new Chaos mode is about, but I can imagine it's going to be... something different, at least. :V

I'll probably go ham and start Chaos BERSERKER RISK once the site actually lists what Chaos is.

Won two runs last year. First was Thief/MK/Beastmaster/Chemist which ended with a sweep, and only #Victory with Knight/Monk/Berserker/Beastmaster.

My prediction for Chaos Mode: 4x Berserkers will be a possible class combination.

It may be possible with Berserker Risk if enough people donate. A lot of people think it's any crystal's jobs available at any time since that was something highly requested over several years.

That and the picture by the Chaos is Coming thing here also suggests that. http://blog.fourjobfiesta.com/

You'd still need a random roll for a berserker though, which seems unlikely(or more if Chaos also adds in duplicates, but I doubt that).

I sorta wonder if Chaos is just any job selected at random for all characters. You could wind up with 3 or 4 characters waiting for an earth crystal jobs! I dunno...

A few donations have already come in and the page hasn't been reset back to please-watch-warmly mode. Maybe the guy running this is OK with things as-is for now?

HEY EVERYONE are we going to swap over to the appropriate avatars again this year? There could be a theme like choosing your :dragonforce:~*~ALL STAR~*~ :dragonforce: from last year. Just a thought.

I gave up on my BERSERKER RISK run around the time the void happened, couldn't be bothered doing all the grinding it'd take to not get one-shotted by everything over there.

I just pre-regged for chaos. This will end poorly.

My current guess, by the way, is that since Chaos is the final boss of FF1, the Chaos run will require you to perform the legendary FOUR WHITE MAGES run.

Poking around the Twitter it seems like everything now is registerable even if it's not officially open so should be safe to go.  Does look like it has been pushed back a week noooo :(

Definitely gonna commit to the Let's Make A Deal mystery curtain #3 that is ~chaos mode~ as poking through the Twitter shows that we will be told nothing about it beyond "THERE WILL BE JOBS ASSIGNED" oh my.  I'm not sure how excited I am about the risk of duplicates since less classes is less silly shenanigans but on the other hand CURTAIN #3 MONTY!  As long as it's not innate Natural run, as from watching the rest of you kids do that mode it seems more tedious and less fun than it was challenging, I don't really want to be playing a job class game without all the job class switching shenanigans.

I don't know if it's asking too much, but I think it'd be a cool idea to have everyone's run type/party updated in the OP so people can see at a glance who's doing what, especially newcomers in the thread.

Also yesssss I am all for TEAM FIESTA AVATAR CLUB and if you didn't do it last year just pick anyone you want!  We could reprise the art from last year or maybe the same type/pose sprites directly from here?  I am cool with whatever!  Let's decide soon!

My current guess, by the way, is that since Chaos is the final boss of FF1, the Chaos run will require you to perform the legendary FOUR WHITE MAGES run.
Nah I don't think that's it, given the picture on the main site

Which is a party that is not possible under any previous Fiesta lineup, and I think the job lineup used last year was how people sussed out the introduction to Classic Mode, so I'm going to also be operating under the assumption that's it's true random.

There are mods to open up all the jobs at the start, I wonder if those would be kosher/recommended if ~chaos mode~ winds up being what we think it will?

EDIT: I just notice Garlyle you called this the Five Job Fiesta in the OP  :V :V :V

Right now, I've counted six people that have went Chaos Natural BERSERKER RISK, and plenty with Chaos BERSERKER RISK

Also joining team ~CHAOS~ and will give Steve Prefontaine the quiet send off he deserves in favor of Ninja Gramps.

I thought so for a while too but I think it would negate much of the purpose of the Natural run. In between each crystal, you could grind up everyone to max job level. They'd get kicked over to a brand new class on the next crystal, and then you'd have another 4 jobs to master. This could mean getting access to a whole slew of jobs. Even in a Natural run you'd probably wind up with some 12 unique skillsets bouncing around and if you don't do Natural, forget it. There's somewhere in the neighborhood of a 50% chance that someone would wind up with any given class. It would also encourage a TON of grinding. Most of all, this will also be real hard to monitor through to completion and might be a lot of work for the guy who runs it. That's my observations on things anyhow and I'll probably be proven wrong. BV

In addition to what Reddyne said, I don't think it'll be new set at each crystal because you get all the jobs comparatively early on in the game - it'd !Mix everything up in the beginning but the bulk of the game would be missing out on the silliness and be standard, unless you get to keep the outdated job skills which would go against the ~spirit~ of the Fiesta.  I guess it could just be scout's honor to not use "disallowed" job skills, but that seems really easy to accidentally goof up.

My wacky alternate theory is maybe jobs are assigned in pairs.... each character can only have those two jobs and when in Job A has to have a skill from Job B at all times.  Under that, getting BERSERKER means you're rolling with !Berserk no matter what and it's the same result as in a standard game :V

Is anyone having trouble registering?  I have a protected Twitter account and even though I took off the security no dice.  I must officially declare my intentions of ~chaos~ to our benevolent overlord Gilgbaot
