TwitchPlaysPokemon plays Touhoumon & Moemon!

So, remember that fad that was a thing a little more than a year ago? The one where, like, 15 million people (rough estimate) play through a single game of Pokemon by typing commands into chat? Well, it kinda still exists. They've played through all of the main series Pokemon games (with some absurdly long intermissions between games), and even did an anniversary run of (a true 151 romhack of) Pokemon Red a couple months ago.

But yeah, in about 16 hours, TPP will be loading up both Touhoumon and Moemon, and they'll be playing through both games simultaniously. If the current set of intermission games is any indication, inputs in chat will affect both games, so this might be a bit of a clusterful. I've heard the Touhoumon version will be 1.8 Enhanced, but I haven't seen any confirmation on this. I highly doubt they'd use Fantasy Puppet Dance Performance, since everything's set up for a GBA emulator.

Edit: In Touhoumon, they chose 13 year-old Maribel as the trainer, and CSanae as the starter. In Moemon, they chose the female trainer, and Charmander as their starter (incoming rip).

Edit 2: Welp. CSanae is weak against one of the common Bonekas (CNazrin) on Route 1. She fainted in her first wild battle. This is gonna be a long ride.

Having them play two games at once is an utter wreck. People in the comments are even suggesting FOUR games at once.

It's going better than I expected, to be honest. The games are staying near enough to eachother that it isn't that much of an issue. If one whites out (CSanae pls), the other generally goes back.

Also, that simul-whiteout was pretty great.

Edit: Well, CSanae is slowly gaining levels. Currently Level 7, and she's at least able to take a few more hits. She's even been able to out-damage a CNazrin without being completely destroyed!... Though, it doesn't help when someone presses Select and puts Growl in the first attack slot.

Edit 2: They're in Viridian! Hurrah! All it took was a swift run through Route 1 with no CNazrin encounters!... oh, and Democracy.

Edit 3: And now we have Pokeballs/Miko Orbs. Time to catch a CNazrin or 20!

Both games are now checkpointed at Pewter City. Touhoumon currently has full party with CSanae, two CNazrin, (CDai)Yousei, CTokiko, and CStarSapphire, while Moemon has Charmeleon, two Rattata, Pidgey, and Caterpie. Looks like the next step is to do a bit of grinding to make sure Brock doesn't bowl over the Touhoumon team.

If I'm awake by the time they beat Brock, I'm totally gonna try and make a push for catching a CMystia on Route 3~


Edit: Moemon has their first gym badge now, while Touhoumon tried once and couldn't beat the gym trainer's 2nd CYamame. Grinding hype.

HECK YEAH, WE GOT A MYSTIA!

...

Ahem. So, uh, currently, both games have 3 Badges. Touhoumon is going through Rock Tunnel, while Moemon is training in Diglett's Cave (though the intended Pokemon is now fainted). How they've essentially been playing is by focusing on one game, while getting the other stuck (preferably in an area where they can train), and they trade off every so often.

So back to Mystia: When we were just getting onto Route 9, people were pushing to go to the grass and catch a Cirno, since "Cirno_TV" is a popular streamer on Twitch, and we had just freed up a slot in our party. Thing is, Cirno's a rare encounter in that particular grass... and a much more common encounter is Mystia (and moreso Tokiko, but we already have one). We had 10 Easy Orbs (Poke Balls) on hand when we started. All of them were tossed at Mystias (I helped), but only the very last Orb actually caught one. Right after that, the very next encounter... was a Cirno. The salt flowed. It was glorious. I can't help but feel, though, that the next PC trip will forcibly remove Mystia from the party. ^^;

Except Red wasn't that hard to begin with. In Enhanced, the final challenge consists of

ten Trainers with a full team of 100-leveled Bon?ka, with some of them having legendaries, plus Red. Red himself have probably some of the best Bon?ka in the game, all level 100. Best part? You lose one, you must beat them all again.

I know Elite 4 was beaten after a few tries, but this one is hard even when you can control your character.

At the very least, they did beat the true Elite Four of Red Anniversary, which had 6 trainers in a row with all Level 100 Pokemon and modified teams. For anyone who missed it, the 6th trainer was

Also, Touhoumon just reached Lavender Town. Tokiko carried the entire team through the cave, and didn't break a sweat. Guess it helps that she learned Roost at some point in there.

Well, Touhoumon is ramming its face against the Elite Four, while Moemon cleared the game a couple days ago.

Touhoumon's current team is Sanae, Cirno, Momiji, Satori, Tokiko, and Isami Mima. Despite what everyone was expecting, they are not doing the Johto postgame, so this is the end of the run... they just have to, you know, actually beat the Elite Four. Pretty sure the main reason for not doing Johto is that it isn't set up as a proper overworld, and as such does not have checkpoints, which as you could imagine would be very problematic for TPP.

Moemon's current team is Dugtrio, Vaporeon, Pidgeot, Butterfree, Charizard, and Electabuzz. Currently, while they're waiting for Touhoumon to finish, the people handling the stream have put in a code/hack to allow any Pokemon from the first 3 generations (barring legendaries) to show up anywhere at random. This is mainly just so that people can see what the gen 2/3 Moemon look like.


Oh, yeah, and that Mystia they had before was deposited in the PC... as well as 2 subsequent ones. I guess it wasn't meant to be. For anyone who is honestly curious, I did a bit of Tweeting about this. Okay, a lot of Tweeting.
