>Do we have any idea what that's about?

>The present pain could be nothing more than a sympathetic ache stirred by the pain in your memory. And that past pain seems to be caused by the bloody hole where your heart should be. In the past, something or someone impaled you, probably with a sword by the shape of the wound.

>Impaled us? Do we have any idea who? Where? Why? How? How we were even still conscious enough to attend a mystery meeting afterward? Anything?

>Nothing. Only the wound, and the pain from it.
>No, that's not all, now that you think about it. There's also a vague sense of despair and betrayal from the pain of the wound. Could you have known who did this? If you did then, you do not now.

>You cannot discern the identities of the other five. Their features are obscured.
>You do not. Something nags, though, like you might have known at one point, but that part of your memory is still inaccessable.
>You do not. The memory runs from the woman telling you that she can't do this without you, you nod, you feel happiness at being part of her circle... And then nothing.

>We have no idea what the 'this' that she spoke of is, correct?
>Those wings Sanae spoke of losing. Does that ring any bells?

>Only that it was something important. Both to her and to you, you think.
>None you can hear.

>How strong is the power coming from Sanae at the moment, if we had to gauge it against familiar things?
>Any change in Elis?

>Right now, you can't actually feel anything from Sanae, and Elis is still standing there with that malicious grin on her face. But that changes with the black energy around Sanae swells and vanishes. The young woman's attire has changed dramatically. A light leeching black singlet covers her torso, vaguely reminiscent of the sailor fuku uniform used in some schools. This one has a skirt and epaulets in light grey, trimmed with sky blue, with a large grey ribbon over her chest. Short black boots and gloves cover her hands and feet, though her new ring is still plain to see on her finger. It's grey jewel matches the jewel set on the black choker around her neck. The whole ensemble gives you a very sinister vibe, even the big green ribbons on the back of her singlet.
>Of course, that sinister vibe might have something to do with the sense of power you feel from her and Elis. Sanae's aura now reads as virtually identical to Elis', and may even be more powerful than Elis'. But despite the look of her outfit and the feel of her aura, there's nothing sinister about the look on her face. She seems... well, enraptured is the word that comes to your mind.
>"Are you all right, Sanae?" Kanako asks her, laying a gentle hand on her daughter's shoulder.
>The green haired woman replies with a short laugh, then smiles before laughing more, louder. She tilts her head back to look up at the cloudy sky. "Fly?" she whispers, and her feet lift off the ground. She glances down at her booted feet hovering off the ground, and another laughs bursts out of her mouth.

>I admit, I am feeling a little less optimistic about this now than I was a few moments ago....
>Let's give Sanae a moment to absorb this and see what happens next. Keep hopeful....

>Giving Sanae a moment leads to her looking back up at the sky, her eyes positively glowing with joy, her smile brighter than that of a young girl who actually got that pony she asked for for Christmas. "FLY!!" she cries out, and blasts off straight up, stirring a chaotic swirl of wind from her launch site, strong enough to force Suwako backwards and actually knocking Kanako and Patchouli off their feet. The green haired woman laughs all the way up, the kind of laugh that would be normal coming from Lily. The sheer, unbridled joy of flight.
>Elis, however, does not seem to share that joy. The bat-winged demon utters a little pained noise and clutches at her chest. "What is this...?" she mutters, not pained but confused.

>"I feel.... Something weird. Something I've never felt before." She points up into the air, at the now-flying in random patterns Sanae. "Something she's feeling. I don't understand it."

>"I've never heard of joy before."
>"What?" Suwako blurts out incredulously. "What do you mean, you've never heard of joy?"
>"I mean I've never heard of joy before." the demon repeats.

>"It might be difficult to put into words if one has not experienced it, but joy is... a profound sense of happiness and well-being, a sense that things are right and satisfying in some fundamental way - like if something one had long wished for and yet never expected was possible were to suddenly come true."

>Elis visibly struggles with that idea. "I don't think we have that emotion."
>White Rose points out, "Apparently ya do."
>"She does." the demon retorts, pointing up at Sanae, who is presently dancing in and out of the clouds.
>"But you said your hearts were connected." Lily says. "So you've got the same range of emotions as her, right?"
>Elis scowls, but nods once. "Wasn't expecting that." she mutters. "How do you Terrans get anything done when you're feeling this way?"

>"Never mind all that now." Suwako interrupts. "What the hell did you DO?" she demands of Elis again.
>"I gave her the power she should have from the minute she was born." the demon answers, more collected now. "She is the Avatar of Air. Her heart, and mine, are connected, halves of a whole. Now she is as she was meant to be." Elis' grin returning, she asks of you, "Still think I'm up to no good?"

>Elis looks up again. "I'm not used to waiting." she admits as you strengthen the shield. As you do, you realize the flow of power has been growing slowly but steadily during this scene. Pretty soon you'll need to start devoting conscious effort to keeping it up.

Freedom for your kind does not have to mean subjugation of ours; we have long learned to peacefully coexist here, despite being of many different races and creeds.
