>"Oh, I see."

>"But don't worry." she says quickly to Reisen. "She never had anything against moon RABBITS, even soldiers. She's totally cool with you."
>The lunar rabbits ears droop as she looks away from Sanae. "That's, that's good." she mutters.
>For the first time, Sanae seems a bit unsettled. "What, was it something I said?" she asks, looking between you and Patchouli.

>Do we know what about that remark might have made Reisen uncomfortable? Beyond, perhaps, mention of the war at all?

>Do we know what about that remark might have made Reisen uncomfortable? Beyond, perhaps, mention of the war at all?

>Not specifically. Obviously being a Lunarian rabbit living on earth comes with its share of complications, being enemies of earth not half a century ago, but Reisen herself has never made any specific mention of a connection to the war.

>She can't be the only moon rabbit we know of around here... can she?

>She can't be the only moon rabbit we know of around here... can she?

>You do not. Neither Reisen nor Patchouli have said much of anything about Reisen's past. You know Patchouli's parents own Reisen, but how they came into possession of her is one thing they haven't mentioned.
>She is. She may actually be the only Moon Rabbit living in Yamato. After wiping Mayoiga off the face of the planet, the Lunar people are especially unwelcome in this country. You personally only know of one other besides Reisen, and that's Dr. Eirin Yakogoro. Every other rabbit you know of around town is either an earth rabbit, or a youkai who ascended from an animal.

>Is it actually common knowledge outside of friends that Reisen is a moon rabbit, for that matter? Like, do most people even know what one would look like specifically enough to differentiate them from other youkai rabbits?
>If so, has this caused Reisen problems in school and such?

>If so, has this caused Reisen problems in school and such?

>It is relatively common knowledge. There are physical differences, Moon Rabbits have different ears than either Earth rabbits or rabbit youkai, and tend to be taller and sleeker.
>To your knowledge, no. Mayoiga High is largely excempt from the resentment some feel towards the Moon. Plus, she is also a slave. People may see her as that before they see her as a Lunarian, though she's never made mention of this happening either.

>Softly: "Perhaps just a reminder of an unpleasant subject."

>"I'm sorry." Sanae says to Reisen, most sincerely. "I didn't mean anything bad."
>The rabbit nods. "I know. I just don't like to think about the war."
>"Yeah. And I should know better, too, Dad doesn't like to talk about it too much, either, and she wasn't even a prisoner."
>Patchouli's head snaps up. "What did you say?" she demands.
>Surprised at her reaction, Sanae points at Reisen's ears. "That's what that button on her ear means. Didn't you know?"

>"Of course I know." Patchouli replies sharply. "She belongs to me."
>"Uh, technic-"
>"Don't technically me." the mage cuts the rabbit off. "And how did you know?"
>"I know a lot of things." Sanae says defensively. "Dad was on the Moon during the war, she told me a lot of things." The new arrival glances over at you, her eyes seeming to ask, 'Help me out here?'

>Gently, to Sanae: "I know you didn't mean any harm, but perhaps it would be better if we let the subject drop. The war holds few good memories for anyone that was a part of it."

>Sanae takes a breath, but one look at the still uncomfortable Reisen and the still glowering Patchouli makes her think twice about whatever she was about to say. So she simply closes her mouth and nods in agreement. "Sorry." she says again.
>And then Reisen quietly asks, "You didn't know, did you, Byakuren?"

>"No."

>"It's nobody's business." Patchouli asserts firmly.
>"Isn't it?" Reisen asks her sort-of mistress. "She deserves to know who her neighbor is, doesn't she?"
>"Not if it doesn't matter." the mage replies, folding her arms. "You're mine now. That's what matters, not what you did during the war."
>Reisen actually smiles at Patchouli's statement of ownership, but addresses you when she says, "It's your choice. Sanae surprised me, yes, but I'm not afraid to talk about it, if you want to know."

>"Perhaps, another time." Reisen says, glancing at Sanae and smiling slightly. "Stories about the war aren't the best way to welcome a new neighbor, are they."
>The green hairen woman smiles in reply.
