>"For what it's worth, I suspect the targets chosen to become youma were partially of convenience, and Air holds no attachment to them that would motivate it to seek them out a second time in particular - it was not even familiar with what a horse was. So if there is any threat, it is only the same as that which Air continues to pose to any of countless beings within this city."
>Shake our head
>"Small consolation, I am sure."

>Do we think we could shape our magic into a kind of 'homing beacon', which we could plant on a target to allow us to track their location beyond the reach our senses would have otherwise?

>Do we think we could shape our magic into a kind of 'homing beacon', which we could plant on a target to allow us to track their location beyond the reach our senses would have otherwise?

>Possible. But you're not sure the beacon would remain once you return to your human guise.

>"It'll do for now." the woman replies. "At least now we know more about how these things operate."

>We'll have to practice that one later

>Nod
>"And it should be clear enough why putting a stop to these actions is a matter of some urgency - no one should have to suffer through that."
>Approach the stable; let's see if the youma appears to have caused any more damage before it came out to fight us.

>"And it should be clear enough why putting a stop to these actions is a matter of some urgency - no one should have to suffer through that."
>Approach the stable; let's see if the youma appears to have caused any more damage before it came out to fight us.

>You make a mental note.

>"Agreed. Though I fear the next time may be worse than this." Haruka cautions. "If that demon had the power to turn an animal into a youma, it can do it to a person, too."

>With that ominous note ringing in your ear, you and White Rose make your way towards the open end of the stable. It's a spacious building on the inside, well-lit and simple, lined off with stalls. There are three other horses in their stalls that you can see, two chestnut colored and one a dull grey. The french officer is standing in front of the grey stallion talking to the animal in a calming voice, while Komachi is standing farther back towards the other end of the stable. She seems to be talking to another horse, but you can see none in the stall she's standing in front of. You can, however, sense the vague aura of her sorcery at work.
>The youma left some deep hoofprints in the floor of the stable, and one of the stall doors on the left hand side of the building seems to have been forced open, but apart from that, the building seems undamaged. It is broad enough inside to permit the passage of even a bruiser like that youma without scraping the walls, like Keine did earlier in the day.

>To either of those present here: "Were there any other injuries?"

>The male is closer, and he turns his head towards you. "Non, madame. All our big friends here were pretty shook up, but not hurt." The big grey horse tosses his head, almost an equine head shake.

>"That may take some time." the bearded man replies, jabbing his thumb in Komachi's direction. "She gets caught up when she's having a talk."

>Give her a few moments, and then if she still seems to be chatting about nothing of obvious urgency, walk near and gently interrupt: "Excuse me?"

>She seems, after several moments, to be talking about horses with, weirdly, someone you can neither see nor here. A closer look, as you approach the stall she's standing in front of, reveals it to be empty.
>Komachi glances your way as you and Rin approach. "Oh hey there, Lotus. Good going out there."

>"Do you think perhaps we ought to try and pick things up where we left off? Or at least tie up a few outstanding loose ends - we were rather suddenly interrupted."

>The officer takes a glance towards the empty stall and asks, "You mind?" Only silence answers her, but she then nods. "Okay, but I'll be back." The sergeant turns her attention back to you. "Yeah, that was one of the more dramatic interruptions I've had in a lot of years."

>"Depends on what you have to do when you're undercover." She smiles that lazy smile she does very often. "I don't know that it was any worse than having a secret war with otherworldly invaders, but it wasn't the easiest job in the world."
>"If it was undercover, are ya allowed to talk about it?" White Rose inquires.
>"Oh yeah, this was that long ago, most of the folks involved are dead by now. Not that this stops them reminiscing about it themselves, mind you." she says with a quiet chuckle.

>She nods. "Rare for me, too. I don't get the chance too often, not when I'm talking to someone with a pulse. Most of them don't really like to be reminded of what I can do."

>"Is it so unique a sentiment?"

>"For me it is. I actually got run out of a little village in Eagleland years ago after my little talent came to light. With pitchforks and everything."
>"Y'see, if you're a priest, or a miko, or something 'good' like that, people think you do favors for the dead. Help them move on, settle old business, things like that. But if you're a necromancer, you brew poisons and violate graves and raise the dead to hurt the living." Despite her words, she sounds neither embittered nor upset. Merely casual.

>"That is the stereotype. I'm not sure I've ever met any others in person, but I would be loathe to judge someone by a stereotype rather than their own actions. Nearly all magic can be used for either good or ill."

>"Now that's something I have heard a lot of folks say before." the necromantic officer says with a nod. "Sad part is, though, not a whole lot of them mean it." With a smile she adds, "You, though, I believe. You got honest eyes."

>"Sure. I'll come back." she says to whatever she was talking to before, then makes for the closest stable exit. "Come on, Luc, let's let Naomi handle Majesty and the others."
>"Yessir." the bearded man says quickly, heading out the other way. You follow his path, since that way leads back towards the mikos and the remaining officer. On Haruka's orders, the shrine maidens join you on the way back into the police station, apart from Lillian. The muscular youkai stays behind to help the female officer move the unconscious horse Majesty back indoors. As before, you and White Rose take the outside route, taking a moment to unwind in the cool refreshing winter air. You note that you're breathing more easily already. Haruka's magic is plainly working.
>With the others taking their time trooping through the interior of the building, you and your Rin reach the meeting room first. Giada the shrine maiden is still present, sitting serenely in the same seat she was sitting in when this incident broke out. Neither Madame Knowledge nor the unnamed man standing next to her are present.
