Fullscreen problems in Windows 7 [SOLVED]
« on: May 02, 2014, 09:28:17 PM »
So I've been trying to play some of the older games in Win 7, and I've found that while they will run fine in windowed mode, for some reason they all simply display as black screens when I try to run them in fullscreen. When this happens, I can still hear music, and hear the sound of myself moving the cursor around. It seems like the games are actually running fine. I just can't see them!

For whatever reason, Double Dealing Character does not have this problem. I think maybe it's something related to my graphics card (it's a Radeon 7870). Has anyone else run into this problem before and discovered a solution to it?

Also, I thought at first that the problem might be my monitor's resolution, which is 2560x1440. But even when I lower the resolution considerably I still get the black screens.

Resolved! Here is what I did, in case anyone else has this problem.

First, I had to enable GPU scaling in Catalyst Control Center. Then I had to roughly follow these steps: http://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68072

Apparently there is a common ATI bug in Windows 7 where you can't change your options to "maintain aspect ratio" and you have to lower your resolution in order to do it.

Hopefully this will help someone else!
