Yeah, Koishi is tragic, but it is self inflicted. I am unsure even if a change is possible, Satori would want the change.

Oh it's not a silly question; it's a really interesting thought experiment. I mean, we can safely say "X would be high up there" but not "X is at the top".

They were Divine Spirits, not Desire Spirits. They were there to watch Miko's awakening, not because of her desires.

I mean, they were very lowly and fleeting Divine Spirits that were born mostly of prayers and, yeah, desires, but the reason they were there didnt have to do with Miko's own wishes.

...unless it's stated so in one of the endings? I avoid reading spoilers about them so I wouldnt know.

I believe there was an ending where they started swarming around Marisa, with the implication that they're attracted to greedy people, but I can't remember the details. Actually, what other reason would they have to gather at Miko's resurrection?

Also, the characters sometimes call them "vulgar spirits", so it's not clear to me if they're real "divine spirits" in the sense that Kanako is.

The moral of the TD story is that gods are born from our desires. The lowly desire spirits are the seeds of future gods.

Desire = faith;

Desire spirits = those minor divine spirits in TD;

A human soul + desire/faith = a divine spirit like Kanako;

A congreggation of desire/faith without a human soul = a god of pure faith like Suwako.

It's the omniscent narrator who said "Miko has absorbed them". It seems faith being absorbed by gods is a natural process. Whether Miko is aware of it is unimportant.

Checking out the ending in question, it seems that line has been mistranslated in the English patch, instead saying that the spirits were "attracted" by Miko, instead of "absorbed".

Hm, saying 'the most' would make it sound like I was looking for an objective pinnacle. I was just looking for any character with a desperate yearning really. A few characters have it in their background stories, now that I have more time to think about it: Kaguya wanted to go to earth, Mokou wanted revenge against Kaguya, Yuyuko wanted to die, I think I had one more but can't remember it.

Whoever suggested Kasen, I think that's a top contender for present day people. Though I can't really do much with that...
Koishi too, is good suggestion. She's just tragic in general. I think maybe she too had a strong desire to be liked by everyone, which may be why she closed her eye.

Oh, I should clarify what I meant by change. By change, I meant by changing the past, not the present. Yeah, Satori wants Koishi to recover from her self infliction.

It's legit

She still keeps her HM looks, so it may apply only for her occult spell, though
