Who is this? Tosiaki?
I've been busy myself, but I can see what can be done about his edits.

Yeah, but I was just explaining some of the shenanigans from back then because it wasn't like he was spamming or deliberately being a shit-stirrer to warrant immediately banning him. Tiamat just realized that there are still some sporadic edits (or removals of edits) that nobody's really noticed/found yet but should be fixed, that's all. Not sure anyone can do much about that.

This may be weird to ask, considering it's about Len'en, but where is Mugenri said to be located?

Yea, the thing that made Tosiaki so... difficult was that he wasn't 100% off-course. Which is why he was able to make edits and why people weren't just throwing it out for so long.  But there was a lot that was unacceptable, and it got mixed in with what was acceptable.  The end result is something that's VERY hard to fix because you have to sift through what's confirmed, valid, or salvageable and what isn't, and they're often intermixed within the same paragraph on the article.  Three years later and I still see edits to the wiki of people trying to put things back together but it takes a lot of time and effort to figure out what should stay and what should go (which is why I haven't done it myself.  I just don't have the time I used to)

Most of it should be back up to speed by now though, I think.  Eirin's article being an exception. Looks like Camilo fixed that, though.

This may be weird to ask, considering it's about Len'en, but where is Mugenri said to be located?

To quote the translation of Evanescent Existence's prologue:

"This is a place born on the other side of people's memories, now a forgotten frontier.
The form released beside the flow of time,
was deeply missed somewhere and a novelty in addition.
This is a story of a world that doesn't exist."

Given Mugenri itself means "non-existent village," I'd assume it's like Gensokyo, but instead of being connected to another world, it's a completely seperate dimension the main characters just got pulled into by Tsurubami.

No, it's freely accessible somewhere in central Gensokyo.
It's somewhat far from the Human Village and apparently hidden by the Youkai Mountain. (Look at Perfect Memento for that one)

And I don't think this has been asked.

Well, to begin with Mugenkan isn't even referred to anymore, so it would normally be impossible to tell even assuming it existed in Gensokyo. There's really no reason to think it is besides Yuuka apparently residing in both places.

However, this is actually answerable by sheer coincidence because we have small details about both of their locations. In LLS you get to Mugenkan through the Lake of Blood (and the Dream World), which for whatever reason is over the mountains behind the Hakurei Shrine. Meanwhile, the Garden of the Sun is closer to the center of Gensokyo, a bit away from Youkai Mountain and quite some distance away from the Human Village. These areas don't intersect, so they're not in the same place even if we assume Mugenkan (and the Lake of Blood etc) actually exists.

Not fully certain if this is the sort of question we're permitted to ask in this thread, but is Kantai Collection predominantly illustrated by Touhou fans? I've heard this rumor going around for quite some time already.

Not really. Some of the official artists draw Touhou stuff, some more than others, but it certainly isn't "predominantly illustrated by Touhou fans", especially if the implication is that these artists usually draw mostly Touhou stuff.

Can I request doujin album tracklist translations in TARC? For example, I want a translation of this. Most of the tracks in that album have their names taken straight from the originals, but there are some tracks that have names that deviate slightly from the originals' names, and unfortunately that's where my very limited understanding ends.

There used to be a translation requests thread but Sabino doesn't come to this site anymore and N-Forza is probably too busy these days to do random translations. I guess you could just post such requests in this thread for as long as they're Touhou related.

Is there an English dub for those "Memories of Phantasm" videos? One of my friends was looking for one and the only ones I could find were TF2dubs (not a bad thing!) or in other languages entirely.

This dub of the first vid was made by someone unfamiliar with Touhou so she misinterprets some characters' personalities, but the actual acting is pretty impressive.

Is there a twitter account or some other site that translates ZUN's tweets? I follow him for Touhou news because links are easy enough to decipher, but he seems like a pretty interesting guy aside from that and machine translation doesn't do the job:

If Seija behave in the opposite way of the person she is speaking to, when she is alone does she behave like a "normal" person would?

Related to the above: for Seija, an Amanojaku, is practically impossible to keep friendships and the likes.... but when she is alone does she feel loneliness/remors/guilt or other similar emotions? Or her nature is still predominant so she is actually HAPPY because "everyone hate me" in her perception become "everyone love me"?

So far as that when alone, she would act however she wanted to, yes. She would act like her normal Seija, that is, not a "normal" person.

The second one, more or less - she enjoys being hated, and hates being liked*.

It may be none of my business asking this, but what's the meaning behind the name "Maidens of the Kaleidoscope," and why was it chosen as the name of this forum?

Late reply, but I've always been under the impression that the name was inspired by this old banner by ZUN

By the way, remind me something: is Yorihime limited to invoking one god at a time or can she invoke multiple gods at any given time?

That much isn't known, as far as I'm aware. There isn't really anything to support or reject either way.
Well, at best you could say that Reimu summoned three gods, being the Sumiyoshi gods, but that wasn't all really at the same time either, considering each god was called for each section of the rocket and they changed as the rocket sections detached.

She used two gods at once while fighting Sakuya. Possibly three, depending on how you interpret her sword.

Pretty sure she was channeling all three at the same time, but required enormous focus to do it.

I didn't take Honoikazuchi and Kanayamahiko to be summoned at the same time. Any reason for this?
And yeah the sword of Gion ehhhh perhaps you could count that as well.

Pretty sure she was channeling all three at the same time, but required enormous focus to do it.
I had to read the relevant chapters again for the last post and from Patchouli saying "you'll have to go up to the second tier and switch over to Nakatsutsu no O no Mikoto right away" and Uwatsutsu getting bored and telling them to switch to the top already, and just the theme of using the Sumiyoshi gods for a three-tier rocket, the other two don't do anything while it isn't their turn.

Suppose that she indeed can invoke multiple gods at any given time, is it possible to say that ZUN simply forgot to limit her powers in spell card duels like he did to others? I mean, even Reimu's ability to float away from reality was limited in her spell cards. I think one can simply limit Yorihime to invoking only one god for each spell card and tying said god to said spell card so she can't switch gods willy-nilly to balance her out. After thinking about it, her "ZOMG GOD HAX" may have been somewhat overblown.

Re: Miscellaneous Questions 5: Ask Question, Receive Answer
« Reply #265 on: August 15, 2014, 04:56:51 AM »
I personally think that the only "limits" by the spell card rules are to make those abilities translates into danmaku play and the absolute rule of nonlethal-ness. Another factor is the characters' "willingness" to use their powers.
For Reimu, she's still intangible during Fantasy Heaven, which is what it's supposed to do and the only limits are the time limit, which applies to all cards. Not necessarily unique to that card. So you can't hardly say that the rule will nerf any particular ability, no matter how OP you think it is, because it simply was never the case.
So Yorihime can summon one or as many gods as she wants. Nothing prevents her to do so as long as it follows the rule of non-lethal attacks and the usual time limit, and seriously, why should it need to? If you say that the spell card will be impossible with multiple gods, well, why would it? We're already shown in ISC that impossible spell cards still counts into danmaku play(and still doable). So if there's any limit to the use of their powers in duels, it's the users' willingness themselves.

I don't really understand the fuss over Yorihime's ability when Byakuren can do the same with Buddhist & Hindu deities in HM and ISC, Kanako and Suwako are full-blown gods, and other characters with more powerful abilities compared to most gods never had to be treated specially in duels.

On Yorihime, though I'd like to think that she can summon multiple gods, it's never shown clearly so there're some doubts.
For the Sword of Gion, I think it's more like a god-infused artifact, so she doesn't need to maintain it like she have to in other summons. Which means it doesn't interfere with her invoking other gods.

I'm simply thinking with the story-wise purpose of the Spell Card Rule, which is to enable a fair fight in which elegance is everything. In this case, to overpower your opponent through sheer power of ability alone would be brutish and inelegant now, would it? And considering the danmaku in ISC is doable even without items, unreasonably hard as it is, then by definition it isn't impossible. Plus, those were explicitly stated to ignore the rules anyway.

...Yeah, I might be falling back to "the battle didn't count" statements here, but what does count given the purpose of the Spell Card Rule?

Whether one of the participants manages to "defeat" the opponent with spell cards. Judging from the games, the battle concludes when either one party runs out of "lives".

I was asking in regards to the spirit of the purpose of the Spell Card Rule. As in, what does "count" as a fair, meaningful fight where everything is settled with elegance?

I know I may sound like I'm riding on a moral high horse here. Sometimes I tend to do that without realizing it and I end up needing help to get off it because I can't solve the dilemma on my own.

Running my mind through ZUN's descriptions for Danmaku (specifically referencing the promotion copy from Playism's Kishinjou release, it is fresh in my memory), a 'fair' Danmaku fight is one which, no matter the power or amount of shots involved, always leaves some room, no matter how small, for the dodging opponent to evade it entirely.

Though, considering what happened in the course of Danmaku Amanojaku, or looking at how Yorihime used an unavoidable spell card against Sakuya in SSiB, one may question the legitimacy of this inference.
In Yorihime's case though, one may reason that she was new to Danmaku, and the 'invasion party' did not explicitly tell her that she was expected to leave gaps in her patterns.
