How have you guys been tackling 2-5?  I got J-noded 3/3 times when I attempted it last week with 76 LoS and a composition of CLT/CVL/2CA/2DD and wanted to know if other methods might be better than the wiki suggested ones.

Mmmm from the sound of it your LoS might not be high enough since you're begin sent to the J node.

You should equip radars and seaplanes on your CAs, radars on your DDs, and Saiuns on your CVLs, and probably a radar on your CLT.

When I play that map, I generally use Tone, Chikuma, Chiyoda,Ryuujou, Yuudachi and Shigure.

Tone and Chikuma are usually equip with a type 21 radar and seaplane, Chiyoda is equipped with a Saiun, and Shigure and Yuudachi have Type 22 radars. And they all relatively high leveled to boot (between 60- 98)

Usually using this combination gets me to the boss node easily. You can try a variation of this if you like, but this is how I got through it in my runs.

While I'm at it, I'm going to mentioned this that was mentioned from the devs' twitter regarding Operation AL / MI

The Event map will last for 20 days! So we'll have nearly till the end of the month to compete this event.

This suggest that this event is going to be big. So hopfully with this length of time, we might be able to conquer this map. We have a little over 1 week before the event happens. So get ready for it!

I usually tackle it with my Kuma, Kongou, Hyuuga, Akagi, Chitose, and Hiyou with minimal problems. They've all got at least one float plane or a plane (in the carriers' cases) that raise their LoS rating and I can almost always destroy the boss's health bar with four sorties.

Does the map have the plane animation for reaching the boss node like during the Recon Plane Event?  I wasn't sure if that was exclusive only to the event or if you don't see it if you don't meet the LoS requirements.

Yes, if you meet all the requirements, you should see the plane animation as an indicator that you successfully met the requirements for the boss node.

So the other day, Kaga was serving as the secretary, and I decided to do a LSC with the default amounts of kibble. The Akagi/Ise-class timer appeared and subsequently I became slightly frustrated since I already had Akagi. I was so absurdly certain the ship was going to turn out to be Akagi (since the result of a LSC is usually influenced by the species of whoever is serving as the secretary).
Consequently, I was flabbergasted to see that this LSC had resulted in Ise. Now my Hyuuga is no longer isolated.

Hi, guys. I believe the last time I posted on this thread was back in November of last year... Well, I've been playing ever since and I've finally put out a video regarding the subject. It took me close to a month to finally finish it, due to a number of rewrites and a few technical issues I had along the way (including an easing drop in feeling to even continue this project at times), but I'm actually very satisfied with the results!

It's just a favorites list, but I try to come up with informative reasoning for my choices. A lot of thought actually went into this, I assure you.

Welcome back, Shigure. :'D

Accidentally scrapped her when I was a newbie and now she's back from the dead! Admiral level 22, world 1-5, second node and with a book written by Shigure('s former captain) herself atop my desk.

Ok, as it turned out today was a special event held in Yokohama where the staff perform a weekly meeting to discuss what's going on as of lately.

And it looks like we were treated with some VERY important reports....both for the anime and for the Summer event coming up. I'll start with the anime first..

The Anime will be postponed till January 2015
The anime will have be doing it's battle scenes in 3DCG.
Mutsuki and Nagato confirmed for anime.
There was a PV revealed at the meeting but no one has footage of it up yet.

The anime site has been updated http://kancolle-anime.jp/

Regarding The event that was spoken at the meeting....

The event is definitely being divided into two separate battle fronts. Operation AL and Operation MI. There's going to be a unique in a special way, so prepare for this one....

Kanmusus that participate in Operation AL event maps cannot participate in Operation MI maps

This makes sense in the case that AL took place at the same time as MI. So basiclly one set of Kanmusus will serve as a destraction along the Alaskan coast, while another set will be battling at the Midway Atoll.

It's going to be VERY important to choose your Kanmusus wisely for this event. Because which ever go to one battle front will not partake in the other.

So come up with a plan and make careful decisions. As you need to decide which Kanmusus will be best suited for which battlefront.

So yeah, the event is shaping up to definetely fit EXACTLY as they described. You're going to need a large group of well trained girls ready for this battle since they're going to different locations at the same time.

Welp, the staff released the PV as promised for those that have been wanting to see what we might have in store for us since the special screening at the Yokohama interview. So here's the Kancolle anime PV for you all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABZN292gvRo

Coming to Japanese TVs January 2015. Pretty much it's shaping up pretty nice at least based on this PV, now the only thing we can wait for is to see how the anime itself holds up.

Akagi just got like 10x cooler.
Which girls are you guys hoping will be in the anime?  My top two would have to be Tenryuu and Tatsuta.  Mutsuki's inclusion was a nice surprise because she's one of my favorite DDs in the game (and my first drop if I remember correctlly).

I thought it was going to be a simple "slice of life" anime.  Coulda sworn I read that somewhere, but the PV says otherwise.

I myself would like to see Atago and Takao personally, considering the PV seems pretty serious, I imagine it would be nice to see these two being shown as a bit more serious compared to the way fanworks often capture these two cruiser girls (thanks to thier...top heaviness)

Anyways heads up for everyone!

Maintainance is tomorrow!

Operation AL / MI update will be set for tomrrow from 11:00 - 18:00 JST

Stock up and prepare, the event is almost here! And make sure to send your Kanmusus out before maintenance since this one will take an extra hour than normal!

I'm also going to go ahead and provide some information that the Devs had put up a while ago regard Operation AL / MI that everyone needs to know...

Quote
- Event will be two phases. Clearing Operation AL will unlock Operation MI.

- AL will be fairly accessible for newer admirals. Some of the rare kanmusus as well as new ones will be available as drops in AL.

- Kanmusus participated in AL will NOT be able to participate in MI.

- Equipments, however, can be shared between operations.

- Kanmusus from the previous events may be found as drops on Operation AL / MI maps

- More information on "carrier fleet composition" and "carrier battles" coming soon.

So from the sounds of it. AL will be an easier map to beat since it'll be gear to the newer players. But once we complere that one, the real challenge begins. Be sure you have enough fleets for both maps, since as mentioned before, Kanmsusu can't partake in MI if they are a part of AL's battle. So plan your Kanmusus ahead and know what you are getting into before hand.

Other than that I'm still curious about the Carrier Battle thing, but I assume they're going to reveal this info via maintenance.

Important News Regarding Operation AL / MI operations!

They are giving us advice regarding what players should be doing for the event to ensure they'll have a fighting chance in the event, here is what's know ATM.
Quote
Operation AL info
1. Light Aircraft Carriers and Curisers are key to winning AL maps.

2. AL is only Two maps big

3. The Boss will be the Northern Harbor Princesses ,a land based enemy, she may have a small body, but processes a strong aerial fleet under her command.

4.Rewards for Operation AL will be:

1. Shiratsuyu Class DD: Harusame
2.Ooyodo Class CL: Ooyodo

5. Past Event Kanmusu can be found here

Operation MI info

1. You will be needing two fleets to help you complete Midway.

The sortie fleet (Offensive) and an escort fleet (support)

More info will be released later...

Extra Info
If you have a duplicate ship avalaible for example: Haruna 1 and Haruna 2.

Haruna 1 can go to AL while Haruna 2 can go to MI.
That's all the new info they've released for now so hopefully this will help you all while we wait for the update.

Edit: And one more....

Enemy Northern Harbor confirmed! This is the face of evil, you must kill her!!

I REALLY hope that Taigei is a drop though because I've been having trouble getting her from 2-5. ;-;

For those who haven't been following up.

Maintainance got extended pretty much till 21:30 JST. Thus nothing has come online yet. I ended up sleeping for a bit while I waited. But when I woke up I saw this.

Who is this mysterious Kanmusu?

The last time maintenance got an extended delay like this was back in November when they did the November event. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come....

Well Maintainance should be about over since the notes are almost done. But with this I will say...

The Summer Event: Operation AL / MI is now underway!
You will have roughly 20 day to complete the event! (unless extensions happen)

With the the Devs have release a large set of note reporting what is know regarding the AL / MI update. Be prepared to do lots of planning and work for this event!

Here are the dev's notes:

Quote
1. Operation AL / MI are being released!  The Event is made of two stage events. For AL your prizes are Harukaze and Ooyodo

2. AL / MI is a two front, two stage battle. Ship Girls that go to one operation will not be able to join the other! So plan who you will send to which operation carefully, once they are sent to that map, there's no turning back for those Kanmusus!

3. A total of 7 ships (!) has bee implementred for this event!

CL Ooyodo
DD Harusame
DD Tokitsukaze
DD Hayashimou
CV Unryuu
DD Kiyoshimo
DD Isokaze

4. For Operation MI, you will be needing an TWO FLEETS to help you torward winning the map. You will need an Carrier Fleet and an Escort Fleet.

5. For the Carrier Fleet, you will need a Minimum of 2 CVs and no more than 2 BB (V)s

6. For the Escort Fleet you need a CL, and a several DDs, you can also add up to 2 CA(V) for extra firepower and LOS.

7. Forming and disbanding of the combined fleet for Operation MI:  Fleet #1 and #2 is needed. You will have to drag and drop fleet 2 to fleet 1 in the composition menu. Changing equipments on kanmusu will undo the setting, the combined fleet will not form if the composition rules are not meet.

8. The combined fleet can only sortie to the MI operation areas and cannot sortie to normal and AL areas. In addition, when trying to build the combined fleet, the info for combined fleet requirements will be shown.

9. Support Expidition are avalaible for the Events! There are support Expidition for AL and MI. Kanmusus that partake in AL support Expidition Fleets will not be able to join MI expidition Fleets and vice versa.

10. Equipment Sharing is allowed. Kanmusus must be FULLY supplied to make use of support expiditions.

11.  New Equipment: Prototype 41cm triple cannons, type 13 AA radars, modded, Veteran aircraft engineers, Mobile Command Fleet Center, and several new planes to boot!

12. New System: Fleet Retreat! is implemented! When  the Mobile fleet command center is equipped on the a flag for 1st fleet, when ever a fleet is critically damaged, one of the escort DDs will trigger fleet retreat and return with the damaged fleet. Please make use of this system in preventing sinking in fierce battles.

13. 5 New BGMS have been added for the EVENT!

14. Several new HQ lines have been given to Tone and Chikuma Kai Ni.

15. Akagi and Kaga will be given new voice lines for the Summer event along with some additional lines.

16. Operation AL and MI will last for 20 days. There will be NO HEALTH REGEN for the boss fleets in both maps.

17. Ememy fleet composition will change depending on your rank level. Strong fleets means higher chances of earning rare drops.

18. For all the newer admirals, please focus on Operation AL, train your ships and plan accordingly and train on the normal maps and you will surely be victorious!

And that's it! The Event has begun!

I will be filling you in on my report of the event as I make progress in the event maps, and hopfully I'll hear from the others as they try to make some headway with the event maps.

I will be streaming and marathoning the Event run over the course of the 20 day period. I will fill you in on it more as I prepare to stream tonight...

5/7 of the new ships being DDs is pretty disappointing when you consider all the hyping they've done for this event.  A new CV is nothing to scoff at, but still.
*really wanted an event exclusive CA*

Also unless you mean foreign CAs, there are NO MORE IJN CAs. They have all been implemented in the game already.

Also I almost forgot, I should post a few Kanmusus to help increase your appetite, (but not all of them) for the event.

I'm having difficulties logging into DMM right now thanks to the overload it's suffering, but needless to say I've gotten news about how this event map works.

There are 2 main phases. And one Extra Phase.

Phase 1 is Operation AL

As we all know, the ships we send there can't go to MI.

Phase 2 is Opertaion MI

This one we cannot use any ship girls that come from AL here, but also Kanmusus we use here cannot partake in AL

Now for the real trolling bit...

Phase 3.... The Abyssal Counterattack on AL / MI

This will be the final phase of the event. And in this one... Ships that are part of AL and MI CAN'T JOIN THIS BATTLE. Any ship girls you have left, that haven't been used need to go here to fight off the abyssal fleet's attack against your base!

So yeah we're in for one hell of ride indeed speaking of which lemme give you a few teasers of AL's prizes...

Shiratsuyu class DD: Harusame

Ooyodo Class CL: Ooyodo

Also if you want that Mobile command center, you're going to need to train Ooyodo to get it... up to level 35 which you can make use of for Midway.
