How many of you actually think I should host another game? I forgot to ask at the end of my game how many of you actually enjoyed the game :/

You should try to host another game! Urist was a well balanced game, it's just that the PM/QT hiatus put a blemish on the otherwise enjoyable experience, but everyone has a first time modding!

I never modded before though so :V

Enjoying mafia is out of the question.

I thought your setup was fairly typical, really, all things considered.

to be honest, your role madness wasn't even one of this forums worst forrays into questionable balance territory.

At least you didn't get talked into actively ruining your own game.

I'd say give it another shot if you're willing to improve.

I'd safely define Role Madness as a game easily dominated by role speculation.

Clearly the best definition is that any game that makes me too lazy to include all the roles in the archives thread and instead link to a post is role madness.

To be fair to Raikaria, at least half the role speculation came into being because the scum decided to all contradict each other with their claims.

We can define role madness on a sliding scale from 0 to 10, where 0 is mountainous and 10 is Psycho Prophecy on steroids.

Raikaria's game actually had fairly standard roles (i.e. roles that can be described with one or two simple descriptors that are self-explanatory to the average mafia player, as opposed to experimental roles or complex combo roles) but the distribution of them was fairly widespread. If you don't like the term role madness, you can use the term "role heavy." Categories aren't that important anyways. Angel Beats Mafia had a pair of self-reviving serial killers, so not a "normal" game in any sense, but it had enough vanillas that it wouldn't really be role madness, etc.

1 scum kill
2 town kills
1 sk strongman kill
plus extra scum ability kill

wow if that isnt rolemadness what is. Honestly the chances of people not guessing about roles when theres so many kills are slim, plus, the roles being standard wouldnt be known to us players without scum flips

I think Raikaria should get someone else to review the setup next time (For some reason HW seems to let questionable setups get run on multiple occasions) and then it'll be fine.

Games with tons of roles (especially experimental ones, not that yours had much in that line) can be hard to balance. It can take awhile to figure out how to do it better. It's a bit of an art!

Balancing power with even more power is Not A Good Idea. If you want lots of interesting roles it's better to make a bunch of amusing/interesting ones that mostly have fairly mild use in actuality, like I did in I Want To Be The Sereliest. Let's not go over how that setup actually went down >_>;

5 nightkills is basically completely insane, outside of when someone is explicitly running a ridiculous setup. A completely stupid setup can be fun every now and then as long as people know what they're getting into (Bad Idea Mafia, You Don't Know The Setup, etc)

Conq:10 would be Psycho Plot The Extreme for 64 players. K4U was murdered during her time as a setup reviewer for it.

Also, you say, "it's not role madness, it had 2 vanillas", but the amount of rolepower in that setup was -extremely- high. Higher than plenty of actual role madness setups. Most of the roles you gave out were really, really powerful ones. :V Also consider that a "normal" setup would have more than half of the town as vanilla. Not that motk sees many of those anymore

As a Mod specializing on role-madness games i'd say DF was somewhere in the middle. And i probably won't say anything new, but it had too many night-kills. Aside from that balance was more or less okay.

And for the n-th time i'm asking moderator to change my setup's flavor from Big Lebowski to Touhou: Avareness of Color.

Day 4.

My next game on this forum will be Catgirl Mafia, btw. As fun as the Villain setups are, I don't think I could squeeze 13+ more roles out of it.

For srs. If nothing else scum would kill you for being the cop and THEN everyone would believe you.

Also I don't care what's next I'm /in. If it's anonymafia then oops but everyone figures me out really fast anyway :C At least cursing a bunch threw Shadoweh off. DON'T LET ME LIVE TO LYLO GUYS.

[Although most of my LYLO was defending myself fom silly cases]

Now, that thing I said I learned and could apply to mafia,

We were looking at 'Roles in a Team' and did one of those tests to find them out.

Roles being:

Chairman/Co-Ordinator - Good at delegateing tasks, and 'leading' things
Evaluator
Implementer - These two are kinda the same in mafia, these are the guys who do the summing up of all the cases everyone else has spat out
Finisher - Self explanatory
Shaper - Persues objectives, challenges the team to improve
'Ideas Man'/Plant - Creators of ideas, usually the ones who think outside the box
Team Builder/Worker - Also kinda irrelevant
Contacts Man/Resource Integrator [Irrelevant to Mafia]

Me? I'm a Shaper and Co-Ordinator, and scored awfully on Ideas/Evaluator/Implementer. This can be seen in three things:
1: I'M ALWAYS THE ONE TO START THE GAME. I kick us out of RVS and get us moving towards the objective.
2: I'm usually really really bad at actually making cases.
3: I'm always nudging inactive players to actually contribute.

So yeah, if any of you have done these teamwork tests before, feel free to share how yours correlates... or doesn't, towards mafia.

Actually if you take the test, that's not possible.

You're given statements, which are grouped. You have to split 10 points between three of the statements.

You will always have a preference.

well that sounds like a fallacy in the test then

better throw it out
