Double Dealing Character not working on xp

I'm not sure if this thread will be of any use, since it's written on the very cover of the game that it's for vista and higher, but okay.
None of the executables run, and I get an error message saying something in the lines of "th14.exe is not a valid win32 executable"
I've tried applocale already. What do? :/

From my post in the other thread:

* Download the software from http://www7.atwiki.jp/win2000/pages/17.html
* Run fcwin2k.exe. There's a checkbox for English.
* In the topmost box select your TH14 executable (the button to the right is Browse, or you can drag it into the box).
* Select "Windows 7" for OS Ver. and press CompatSave.<-- probably unnecessary
* Check the boxes "Checksum" and "Executable" and click Rewrite.

In truth, you can use a hex editor to fix it as well (change the byte at 0x00000170 from 06 -> 04 and in custom.exe change the byte at 0x00000138 from 06 -> 04).

Actually in the full game it's different, you have to change the value at 180 from 06 to 04.
I don't know about custom.exe though, but it's not at 138 anymore.

Shameless hijack.

Windows 8, Lunatic Stage 4 boss crashes the game a bit into the second spellcard no matter what I try. Other difficulties work fine.

In keeping with the other thread, this requires a patch. There's been one for the trial, which seemed to work with the final as well. Not sure if v1.00b fixes this, haven't tested it.

But yes, v1.00b fixes the Lunatic Stage 4 problem.
