When you're raiding for specific reasons due to an event it sets your options accordingly, in this case Take Captives by which we mean our own guys back.

Maybe if we start calling in some favors (with a smallish gift too) we can get some more cows. The Rakstanti like us well enough, and they're close enough I'm going to chance sending Sartark along this time since he's a little better bargainer. We can also go beat up the Elkenvali more come Storm season. :V
The Greenwings send word that two of the warriors you thought were killed during your recent raid on them are still alive. They send Ordag, a member of the Undaroli clan, to tell you that they are being held as hostages. They demand the customary ransom for two weaponthanes.
1. Let them keep the hostages.
2. Pay them the customary ransom of 20 cows.
3. Send our clan trader to negotiate a lower ransom. (I am unsure whether this will let us pick or if it'll pick our best bargainer currently on the ring - the latter would suuuuuuck since our real trader's out. :V)
4. Send a small group to rescue hostages.
5. Send a small war party to take hostages from the Greenwings.
Although it is contrary to precedent, the Greenwings may feel justified in killing the hostages if we don't pay the ransom. (2, 3)
I am confident that I can lead a successful war party. It will be easier to take Greenwing hostages than to recover our own. (5) (ARE YOU REALLY SURE DUDE)

As much as we might like to, we can't afford to pay ransom now. (1, 4, 5)
Tell them if they do not release the hostages, I will come over and drool on their old women, in a way they do not wish to be drooled upon.
