It's only 12 cows, let's hand it over to buy some time. The next time they come knocking we'll have a pile of weaponthanes ready for them. 3

Bye dude.

No one had an opinion on who to raid last time I asked* and I am soft-hearted enough to want to give the Elkenvali at least a short break after that genuine (or at least seemingly so) overture of peace a few seasons back, so let's try the Zethnorings on for size.

*Yeah, everyone said the Elkenvali back at Sacred Time, but that was before the peace parley. Admittedly I didn't call formally for a vote or anything when I asked though :V

... I forgot to take a shot of the start-of-raid screen? We were fighting something like 13 weaponthanes and 60- or 70-some regular dudes, I spent no extra magic and did plunder + charge. But heeeeeeeeeey I like that result, let's do it again.

I'm not sure I've actually seen this particular battle event (and a lot of the ones I have seen depend highly on the skills of the person that popped with them), but there's a fairly similar one that comes up with a fair bit of frequency against Horse-Spawn and charging straight away is basically always the right answer there. Seems like it was a good one here too!

WELP.

WELP X2 COMBO.

Engarna popped up to qq, too many sick/injured farmers. I'll go on a recruiting spree early next year (especially if I don't have to change crop setup, but I probably will since high rye this past year for poor harvest omen). Also this, but I'm pretty sure this is a thing that the shrine I just put up last season will help with.

... "and 1 more sheep". For some reason that really amuses me.

Hey guess what time it is. I wouldn't mind another attempt at heroquesting if y'all want, we haven't learned any others since two years ago since I haven't truly gone on a sacrificing spree or anything (though I did do a fair bit I guess - there's mostly just specific blessings I'm aiming for yet, a lot of which are from gods who don't have quests).

Heroquest would be a good idea, we need some kind of edge to stop the Colymar from ripping us up like they did there (though I'm amazed we succeeded at stopping them from getting anything out of it).

(though I'm amazed we succeeded at stopping them from getting anything out of it).

Sometimes Arengee smiles upon us. (Doubly so since survive + evade actually leaves them with a better chance of taking shit, since we're kinda more worried about, well, living.)

Fun fact: I once got the Colymar asking for tribute as the very first event of the game in a playthrough. And made the same choice as you all did because I was genuinely afraid of being unable to afford the tribute later on.  ... and then did survive + evade the first time they came to wreck my shit AND WON WITHOUT A SCRATCH. (I was not so lucky on future visits and just scrapped that run, though we've got a lot more of a base to work from here so we might pull through OK, though I have no idea how this plays out in the long run.)

Let's continue beating up Zenthorings. But the Elkenvali shall have their death. Also Heroquesting. Can we both raid and quest?

Yeah we've got plenty of time, since quest is likely to be in Storm (since I still ain't doing Elmal Guards the Stead) and the primary raid season is Fire. I only held off 'til Storm this year to give time for opinions on targets after that whole parley thing happened.

I mean it's possible we might want to take a break from raiding anyway? But not explicitly for the sake of questing.

Recoup losses and let's try the heroquest stuff since it seems to be something we haven't covered/had success with as much as other things.

Wish I could put some magic into Trade or perhaps even Health (because omen), but need to save some for quest time. ... I don't get a chance to do anything else yet. :V

Led by Arene, a respected carl, the women of the clan reproach the ring for costly blunders. Battles and raids, even victorious raids, have killed so many husbands and sons that the women do not know how they will raise their families. "We have taken care of our homes and our fields. You have not taken care of our husbands," says Arene. "If things do not improve, we may have to return to our original clans, much as we hate that idea.

1. Arrange suitable marriages with surviving bachelors.
2. Ask the women to be patient.
3. Authorize women to temporarily form joint households.
4. "Just be thankful that we've kept you and your children safe."
5. Send Sartark to the Holy Country seeking former kinsmen.
6. Sponsor a Marriage Contest to draw men from other clans.

The precedents are ambiguous, but that means we can support several possible solutions. (1, 5, 6)
Arene is insolent and deserves no respect. But I admit that treating her as she deserves won't solve our problem. (1, 5)
More visitors would increas the number of worshippers at our temples. (6)
We do have relatives in the Holy Country. It's a long trip.
It's true. Our women deserve better. We must take them seriously. (1, 3, 5, 6)
Fresh blood wouldn't hurt. (6)
This isn't a problem. this is an opportunity!

Civil unions for... well, for straight ladies, oops.

It's OK we're recruiting more people, some of them are probably single dudes.

Iskalli, we can diplo when we have people to not get facerolled.

One of your weaponthanes, Brandig, appears before the clan and recounts an incident that occured back in the Holy Country, before the migration to Dragon Pass. "When I was just a child, my father Korlmar, a weaponthane of this clan, was seized by Yorsar and Frithorf, then of the Zethnos clan. They threw him upon a bonfire, and would not let him off it, until he had burned to the bones. Long have I given up hope of vengeance against these two killers. But now I hear they are here in Dragon Pass; they have been adopted by the Taralings. Although they are now old, they must pay for what they have done while they were young."

1. Allow Brandig to pursue private vengeance against them.
2. Demand wergild for the slaying of Brandig's father.
3. Launch a raid against the Taralings.
(IT'S SEA SEASON)
4. Tell Brandig that it is not the right time for vengeance.
5. Tell the Taralings to outlaw the men.

We have no case against the Taralings; the killings took place when the men belonged to a far-distant clan. If Brandig kills them, they will have a case against us. (4)
If we raid the Taralings, Brandig can avenge his father on the battlefield. (3)
If they pay us wergild, we can add a silver inlay to the altar of our temples. (2)
Brandig will keep asking until we satisfy him - or he may take matters into his own hands, no matter what we say. (3)
Tell Brandig not to raise this matter during planting time! Or tell him to take care of it himself. (1, 4)
Living cows are more useful than dead enemies. (2)
In the sagas, personal grudges often turn into full-fledged feuds between clans.

Iskalli's got a point, plus 1v2 doesn't seem like it'd end well for Brandig. 4

2 or 5, Iskalli is right, but I'd like to see some sort of action taken against these men. Preferably 2, because wergild is an awesome custom.

Important note: only the (free) raid(s) you get off this event will count for this, though he'll keep whining at us every so often until it's resolved in some form or another.

Iskalli warned you about lawsuits bro. Now it will keep happening. :V

blah blah crop ratios and tweaking the land allotments while I'm there (apparently the latter is the only part that costs a turn though), no one cares but I gotta do it.

Dudes! \o/

But but but we need our magic for queeeeeeeests.

owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

... WE HAVE ONE WEAPONTHANE. But we also need all the dudes we can get, period, even just regular soldiers, so trying to bring in outsiders...

FUCKING RECRUITMENT GOT US THREE DUDES.

A husband and wife from another clan come to offer us a treasure they say they found while exploring out in the woods. The treasure is a torc of honor, which would win us the admiration of others. They want goods worth forty cows in exchange for the treasure.

1. Decline their offer
2. Pay them what they ask.
3. Take the treasure from them.
4. Threaten them into revealing who they stole the treasure from.
5. Try to haggle their price down.

We must find who they stole the treasure from, and return it to them. (4)
We could easily take them. A chipmunk could easily take them. (3)
This is a useful magical treasure. (2) (Yeah it probably is but we need goods to buy warriorsssssssss.)
The price they ask is fair, but I sense they wish to quickly dispose of their goods. They will settle for less. (5)
We can easily take them. (3)
It would be unseemly to haggle. (2)
It's stolen, which means we can steal it from them. (3)
