New opening! Not nearly as cool, but whatever.

This episode was way too slow, but at least it kind of moved the plot forward. It still probably could have been largely skipped, but it's better than a bunch of re-used footage.

Speaking of, is the summary episode worth watching? I skipped it, but is there at least a frame that has new animation or something? And what was the point of it if it's numbered 13.5 and therefore doesn't take up an episode? I thought it was to save money, but if that's the case it was just a waste of money. Seems counterintuitive.

I bet you they couldn't make deadline for episode 14, so they chucked a hastily-edited summary episode to the networks.

I'm sure a character with such a (from everything we've seen so far) narrow focus would get old before too long, but I think I'm ready for some kind of change. Eren's story it moving way too slowly, which is unfortunate given how incredible the pacing of this show was from like the third to the eighth episode. Wouldn't it be cool to shift to someone new for a while and see what he's doing second hand?

The new supporting cast in the Survey Corps was a great idea, and is probably building to something that will work, but so far they haven't done much to speed the story along. I assumed Eren was going to leave the city and go looking for his old home like five episodes ago, and now that he's finally outside of the city almost nothing has changed. The show built up more than enough goodwill with those really great episodes to make me assume this is going somewhere that will be worth it, but I'm impatient.

Yesterday I read a few articles on the controversy surrounding the possible militaristic themes in the show. What do you think? Does it glorify the military? Obviously it's impossible to really say until it's over, but so far all we've seen the military do is die pointlessly while a few superpowered heroes do all the work, which seems like it could be interpreted either way pretty easily.
