Got to the Final Boss' 3rd spellcard.
Those Knives. In fact that spellcard and the nonspell which is basically it without the targeted giant knives are both crazy.
I also hardly 3CC'ed. That survival... those large knives.
Having seen the whole of normal:
- A lot of the nonspells are the same basic thing recycled, with the exception of Stage 6. Disappointing in that regard. Even then, Stage 6's 3rd spell is the 3rd nonspell with added GIANT KNIVES.
- Some spellcards are really easy, others very difficult. Stage 3 is a great example, the 2nd spell is easy, the 3rd? Ugh, I see that being a timeout for anything without homing.
- Stage 4 [A] boss is underwhelming. The non-spells I find harder than the spells, and she has fewer than most S4 bosses [3, instead of 4]. The first spell is her hardest, barring RNG screwing on the 3rd. 2nd is a cakewalk. Non-spells are wall city, on the other hand.
- As for the Soundtrack... I love everything Stage 4 onwards, but I wasn't too impressed with most of 1~3, with the exception of Willows.
- Gimmicks are fun. Stage 2's flying head, Stage 4's 2nd spellcard, Stage 5's flips [Yes, I find those FUN], and Stage 6's whole 'bullets that stop above you' and 'BIG'. On the other hand, Stage 1 and 3 are boring, IMHO.
Stage 1 can be excused, it's Stage 1, but Stage 3 is the biggest offender. In Stage 3, the safest thing to do is... not shoot at all? Combined with the boss' final spellcard being virtually a timeout for 4 shottypes [Maybe 3, but Reimu B would have to nofocus], and the fact that most of the stage is streaming, and the movement required to survive the nonspells and first two spellcards of the boss is minimal, and Stage 3 is an utter snorefest.
Ironically the boredom of Stage 3 leads me to try and PoC for more resources, and inevitably die and lose my stacked bombs.
- I also like the fact that a lot of spellcards actively punish you for hugging the bottom 1/5th of the screen, which is what usually is the best move. On the other hand, this probobly could have been accomplished without the BOSS moving to the bottom of the screen, gimping non-homing shottypes. Ironicaly SA Marisa/Patch's Earth Elemental shot would have been excellent here. Oh Marisa, why can you never have the shottype that would be useful in that game?
