The post I was responding to was referring to Hard. I think the Hard modes tend to rank similarly in difficulty as the corresponding Lunatic modes do, though. (There are exceptions, such as PCB which has one of the easiest Lunatics while its Hard is more average, or MS where Hard barely differs from Normal, but I think it's true in general.)

I've seen a few people say that Kaguya was considered an easy final boss, though at least one of them was talking about easy mode, which is probably due to Imperishable Night's easy mode being easier than the other easy modes anyway. I probably just made the mistake of assuming Kaguya's easiness applied to all difficulties including hard, when relative boss difficulty varies depending on the difficulty setting. Seeing the Help Me, Eirin meme also contributed to my misconception somewhat, even though it seems to have originated from Kaguya being considered easier than Eirin, not necessarily being the easiest final boss in the series.

If Kaguya is one of the hardest final bosses on hard, then that makes me feel better about having to bomb through almost all of her attacks. (That includes the easy Salamander Shield, but that was mostly due to the faster firing rate of the lasers making me panic and screw up the restreaming. It's easier for me now.)

IN Easy is indeed one of the easiest, though I think TD Easy has given it some competition.

As for the relative difficulty of FinalA vs. FinalB, it's debatable. I've seen it both ways (and that may also depend on the difficulty). Personally I have no opinion since I almost never play FinalA.

By the way, if you can 1cc PCB Hard with 4 spare lives, you probably have a decent chance at Lunatic already. Yuyuko in particular isn't that different between Hard and Lunatic.

UFO Extra NMNBNUFO with MarisaB! I actually haven't been playing shmups for the past week, then sat down to practice this over the weekend and got it within a few days. This is probably one of the easier extra stages to perfect anyway, but I'll take it.

Yuyuko > Kaguya > Eirin > bombing games as scoring goes.

I think, for flawless survival, (NMNB) which seems to be popular here, Kaguya is probably one of the hardest - if not the hardest (although I think Remilia would still be harder than her) - since her fight lasts for a long while, due to the extra spellcards. Kaguya also has patterns highly affected by RNG, which many people don't like (me included), since facing those on a full run when all wobbly and stressed is quite a terror.

For the Eirin vs. Kaguya thing, I'd say Eirin is easier in all of the cases. She has much more static difficulty, after practice only her third nonspell is terrifying (maybe). Hourai Elixir PoC isn't as bad as doing all of the five Last Spells optimally and correct. For stuff like Apollo 13 supergraze, Omoikane's supergraze/speedkill and PoC'd Hourai Elixir on harder difficulties, you don't really see such feats on full runs. Risk-reward balancing.

What was supposed to be a practice run eventually turned into an EoSD Hard clear with Marisa B.
I didn't think I would be able to clear it since I died on some really stupid things (Stage 5 fairies just before midboss Sakuya, even after using a bomb. Sakuya's third nonspell with three bombs left...), but it's a clear nonetheless!

Still an accomplishment, though, since the glitch doesn't really help with the stage portions. Stage 4 in particular is tricky to preserve 3 power on, and with MoF Lunatic's bullet speed there are lots of places where you can die if you're not careful. It took perhaps 15 or so attempts (9 of which cleared), excluding restarts on the first 3 stages.

I'll go for a more serious no-death run some other time (and hopefully bring my MoF high score back to a non-broken character in the process). I've had enough MoF Lunatic for now.

MoF Lunatic 1.789b. My greed for points caused a silly death at VoWG. I was thinking if I captured it it would put me at 1.85b.
Goal is 2 billion points. It's a start I guess. Still need to work on getting full power before Aya, some stage 2 PoCs, etc.
Oh, and I bombed pretty much everything dangerous.

e: I just learned that faith affects clear bonus too, so capturing it would have actually put me at 1.88-1.89b, I didn't know what I was thinking. It seems all I need to do now is use a better route and finish with max faith.

I'm actually trying to 1cc all the games with all shot types first, so I'm going to after I 1cc with UFO MarisaB/SanaeA and SA C-types.

...I guess I should get the rest of PoFV and GFW done while I'm at it...

While practicing Stage 5 of UFO I pulled off a perfect run with no bombs or deaths. I feel proud since stage 5 is really when I start messing up.

Wow, congrats!  That's a bloody high score for MoF lunatic  :3  Nice job!

Getting greedy for score can certainly be painful thing if it backfires  :blush:  (At least being greedy on stage 1 only means several thousand stage 1 restarts, heh, but man is it dangerous nearing the end of a decent run  :ohdear:)

As I mentioned in the description, Ran's first spell is virtually impossible on Ultra. Interestingly enough though, it is much more doable with Yukari.

HRtP is insane on Lunatic, so I'll stick to trying to 1cc the hell route on normal first.

HRtP Lunatic is easy compared to standard Touhou Lunatic modes if you abuse the bomb system for lives. Lunatic's boosted card value means you don't even have to be particularly efficient with your bomb chains; it's possibly easier to 1cc Lunatic than Hard.

There is one specific technique that it's probably useful to learn for this. In any stage with no obstacles (and even a few that do), position yourself slightly to the right of where the orb will land, slide left, and immediately bomb. The orb should bounce off the left wall, hit you while you're bombing, and be deflected back into the air. Instant near-perfect chain at almost no cost. With HRtP's unlimited extends, it can be worth 2 or even 3 lives. Use those lives on the bosses (Shingyoku can be learned, but the rest tend to get cheap shots on you), and repeat. And remember that sliding always launches the orb at the same speed and angle; this is useful both for hitting bosses repeatedly, and finishing off those last few cards that weren't affected by the bomb.

Here's a video of Zil breaking the game. He got lucky here (often there are more cards left over after bombing), but it shows the general idea.

It's different if you're going for a no-bombs 1cc, but it's trivial to simply 1cc.
