>There was a statute of limitation on when Konngara could challenge us over Rin, yes?
>And would that extend to any other random oni, as well?
>As far as your knowledge of oni law and tradition extends, Konngara can challenge you at any point during your ownership, provided she has the grounds to do so, and the challenge comes in a form in which the two of you can compete without one having an unmatchable advantage. And that does apply to other onis as well, provided they have the grounds to maintain a slave. An oni whom you know to be broke, for instance, would be an invalid challenger, since they have not the means to support themselves, let alone a slave.
>Didn't we already declare her to be free in private some time ago, and the slave thing is entirely a facade at this point to keep Konngara at bay?
>You'd prefer is she acted like a free person, but technically she can't legally be freed for ten years. Once an owner has maintained ownership of a slave for a decade, that owner must either adopt the slave into their family, or give them their freedom. Any slave who is freed in this manner can never again be enslaved, legally, by any oni, Konngara or otherwise. If you formally declared her free at this point, then any oni could claim her, since you would have forfeited any claim on her. That is why you still answer to the title of 'owner' and answer to the legalities therein. Freeing a slave before their term is served is, by oni law, really no different than abandoning it, save for the clause that a slave owner who abandons their slave forfeits any right to claim that slave again.
