>What sort of speculation?
>Just about every one of the teachers here and Mayoiga high has a few stories about them, some more fanciful than others. Kaguya Houraisan's stories are among the fanciest. Some say that she's far far older than she appears, and that she teaches classical literature because she herself wrote those stories ages ago. Or was the main character in them, and she is retelling her own tales. Some say that she was the first empress of Yamato, some say older still, that it was she who united the factions of these islands to form one nation. Some even say that she was once a princess of the moon, though that story doesn't get mentioned much, what with the Lunar people having such a.. stigma attached to them. It hasn't been that long since the last war, and Kaguya is rather well liked.
>She does drive a Porsche 928, which is not a cheap car by any stretch of the imagination. This has yielded tales of her being from old money, that her family is royalty in another part of the world, or that she made her fortunes ages past and still has not exhausted them all. A less popular theory is that she is secretly married to an oil baron, or a cruise liner owner, or some other equally obscenely wealthy man.
>Of equal speculation is her relationship with Mokou Fujiwara, the gym teacher, who drives a Lamborghini Gallardo. If you remember Marissa correctly, that's an even more expensive car than Kaguya's Porsche. Some say that the two of them go back a long way, that Kaguya bought Mokou her car before their falling out, and some say the reverse is true. It is no debate whatsoever that the two consider each other their natural enemy, that they contest each other at every possible opportunity, from car races, to homeroom test scores, to the hand of Keine, to who has the longer hair. Obviously some of these competitions are the result of pure school gossip, but the rivalry between the two is not.
>Face forward and pay attention
>Speculation or no, no one speculates during either one of their classes. Houraisan-sensei's class today, however, is a bit understated from her usual fare. She distributes a handout to the class and then discusses the bullet points one by one. This is rather unusual for her, as she doesn't distribute handouts unless it's part of a very rare text. You'd almost guess that something has her distracted, like her mind's not completely in the classroom, which is also very unusual for her. It's hardly obvious, you'd be surprised if anyone really noticed, but you've always been rather perceptive of little details, especially when it's someone you're familiar with.
>While she may be a little distracted, that does not detract from the quality of her lesson. She may be using an unusual method, but she handles each point quite thoroughly and finishes her handout just before the end of class, almost as if she'd timed it. She doesn't linger after class, however, departing almost as soon as Murasa calls on the class to rise and bow.
