Convince him we didn't know about the ambush, since the reason he wants us captured is because he thinks we set up the ambush.

Honestly? They don't matter as long as we can stick around long enough for the Emperor to nail Sariel to the wall.

To preemptively answer the invariable follow-up question to this, no, I don't know why Sariel lying or not makes any sort of difference in the grand scheme of things, particularly why Sariel lying makes conquering Gensokyo any less of an accomplishment. But given how he reacted, it must mean something to him for some reason, so I'm going for it.

Yeah, the whole thing that went down when Sombraluz talked to Kasen over the phone was designed to work against Sariel's story.

I suspect it's also worth having Kasen describe the hermit lifestyle before we see Sariel again, since it directly contradicts her statements about how Gensokyo's people see Higan. Makes me wonder how much, if anything, Seiga told Sombraluz about hermits. I'm not expecting anything, but who knows.

Well, really, all we need is someone trustworthy to report the information we've already given (and possibly the hermit info) to the Emperor. I suspect it would be better coming from Sombraluz or a guard than us in that regard.

Sariel being there or not doesn't really matter, since the information's been passed to Empire peeps already. I suppose her presence would make it easier to immediately address whatever concerns she raises in her defense, but eh.

Wait, the goal here is not to get captured? Why didn't we let him run away? Why don't we run away right now?

It seems like the way things are going, we ARE going to be captured, and we won't have enough leverage to convince anyone of anything. If we run away right now, we can introduce more NPCs and alter the playing field enough so that this encounter will be negated.
