>By and large, the ferry workers don't have to deal with it, beyond clocking in and clocking out. They are expected to report accidents and the like, as rare as those seemed to be, but aside from those things you don't remember your mother having to do much in that regard.

>Initially, you didn't spend too much time there. Sometimes you'd visit back when she was a baliff. When you actually tried to work there, though, you spent a good deal of time running messages for people, and helping to organize things. It was dull work.

>Press the communicator button.
>Say the following while speaking softly: "Sorry it took me so long to respond. I couldn't speak freely while with the soldiers, but I managed to get a few minutes alone by saying I had to relieve myself. I don't have a lot of time, so I'll make this quick. That 'special advisor' I mentioned, Sariel, is from my world. From Higan, the same place as me. She got kicked out, and now she wants revenge. She's been manipulating Canus into attacking Gensokyo, and misinforming him about it, and especially about Higan. She's been behind Canus from the start, before he was even the Emperor. We expose her, and Canus's hold on power is suddenly one hell of a lot less secure. If the people learn that the entire Empire was based on the lies of a vengeful woman, well, it won't do Canus any favors, I'll put it that way. In order to expose Sariel, I need to go back to Gensokyo and get proof that Sariel's full of shit. I'm only cooperating with Canus and his men so I can get home and get that proof. Part of that 'cooperation' involves getting you to stand down. Canus would prefer surrender, but I said there's no way you'd accep that, and that the best I could do is getting you to leave, and he accepted that. If you don't stand down, he won't trust me enough for me to pull off the rest."
>Press.
>Look over to Sombraluz.
>"They'll likely be much more cooperative if they think I'm giving them what they want."
>Remember to speak softly again when we're back on the communicator.

We're not stabbing her in the back. We're telling her the plan (or my idea of what the plan is, at least) (and maybe with some exaggeration), and using the fiction of betraying her to get away with it.

Your command is basically telling Yumemi that you will help remove Canus from power, while telling Sombraluz that you will lie to Yumemi in order to make her vulnerable. This is a bad position to be in, unless your goal is to return to Gensokyo ASAP with no regard for Kuso, in which case it's not great but not terrible.

>"No," says Sombraluz, "What I mean is that anything we show you, you could dismiss. We could show you statistics, and you could brush them off as fake. We could show you places and let you talk to people, and it's easy enough to say we just picked those who would say what we wanted, or that we intimidated them. I could show you records, and you could say they're fake or incomplete. This is not a new thing for us."

You know, in retrospect, our cards getting lifted should have been a signal that there was a traitor. That'll teach me to assume they were lost in the interdimensional flow for gameplay purposes.

I'm thinking that original idea I had isn't so hot. I had a new idea but I forgot it. I should remember it when I get home.
