When I first heard of Firefly, I think it was on this board, something along the lines of "I'm so evil I cancelled Firefly." At first I didn't give it much thought, but later I saw other things about it, always talking about how good it was, and how it shouldn't have been cancelled. I didn't care at first, but someone posted a clip it on the Gamefaqs board(the one where Zoe says
Spoiler:
"he must do this alone" and Mal replies"no I don't" and then everyone guns the guy down
I thought that was hilarious but I wasn't sure I wanted to start a series knowing it was cancelled. Later, my friend told me Firefly was amazing, to the point where he argued with my friend between which is better, it of Game of Thrones. At this point, I decided I would watch it, but was too lazy to search. Finally, when going to the Library, my Mom found the complete Firefly series on Dvd (I mentioned how much everyone liked it to her earlier.), and we watched the whole thing as a family. We did the same with Game of Thrones, which makes my friend jealous of me for some reason. :V

I know I'm late to the party, but a lot of the fun in watching shows, especially good ones, comes from talking about them with people. Seeing how people here seem to love Firefly, I didn't think you guys would mind a little discussion on it.

For anyone who doesn't know what Firefly is, it's great, fun show made by the guy who made Avengers. If you want to see it, you can watch it on Hulu here They seem to have the episodes in a weird order though.

Okay, finally getting to what I thought of the show.  Well, I loved it, and just about everything about it. The characters were interesting and the jokes never failed to make me laugh. In particular, my favorite parts are the times where you see things that you've seen before in other movies, looking like it'll be something dramatic and take a while, only for it to be taken care of in seconds. Despite this, jokes don't hurt the serious parts in any way. Whenever the crew tried to accomplish a heist, I almost always felt tension. I just liked the way they handled the series. I'm glad I watched it.

I also ended up watching Serenity too. I didn't like it as much as Firefly, I had issues with the beginning. But other than that it was good. I'll probably get around to reading the comics at some point or another.

Wow, that tiny post took a long time to write. How I survived AP Lang I will never know.

For some weird reason after reading all that until I got to the point where you said...

I kept thinking about Dragonfly. :V

Anyways, seems you put your whole thought on that post. Might as well be worth watching then...

I've had a hard time getting Firefly. On the one hand, I enjoy sci-fi that tries something different. On the other hand, I've heard it called "the US Civil War, only in space," where the Confederates are the good guys. Is that a fair comparison?

"Human history and growth are both linked closely to strife. Without conflict, humanity would have no impetus for growth. When humans are satisfied with their present condition, they may as well give up on life."

I... don't know if that's a fair comparison at all. <_<

It's Cowboy Bebop + live action + Joss Whedon.

I'm with Edible. One of the main characteristics that the captain has is how much he values the freedom and rights of everyone. It becomes a plot point for a couple of episodes, actually.

A live action Cowboy Bebop sounds very enjoyable.

I keep hearing that because Keanu Reeves was a big fan of the series he wants to spearhead an adaptation, but nothing's come out of that yet.

I've never actually seen Cowboy Behop actually. If it's being compared to Firefly, I'll give it a try.

If you don't like Whedon's style then you won't like Firefly, because it oozes Whedonisms.  If you like Whedon then you'll adore Firefly and curse Fox for cancelling yet another amazing scifi show before its prime.

This is important.

However, I think it's fair to say that Firefly is more... Accessible than something like,  say,  Buffy/Angel/Dollhouse :v
