Katsugeki Kidan 3 English Translation

The patch can support both version 1.00 and 1.02 (dunno about 1.01 - I don't have a scene.scn for that one). Please keep in mind that this is a beta release. There may be small typographical errors and other adjustments to make. Also, right now, there's no installer so the files have to be copied manually (read the readme file). So expect something slightly less patchwork-y soon; for now, though, here it is! Please let me know if anything comes up (typo, missing file, Momiji suddenly turns into Chen... that sorta thing).

(Edit: For the record, the bug I listed earlier still occurs with 1.02. Weird. Also there's one or two very small alignment issues I've noticed (Aya's intro questions and "STR" when it's highlighted in the level up screen) - nothing much other than that so far though.)

Major thanks to Arknarok for making this possible. This would still be a "maybe" project if it weren't for his very, very speedy translation of the game's files.

EDIT: Cleared the Fairy Arc for the most part. Beat Sunny, so there's one more stage left to plow through for that chapter.

...Not really... The program I hammered into KK3 to beam mind-control beams into people's heads clearly failed to work. Well, there's always KK1 and 2, and the rest of Gatling Cat's stuff...

Aside from the above though, glad to see it's working just fine.

...Though I don't seem to be able to open the zip, I've tried 3 seperate downloads but they're apparantly all corrupt.

I just use a controller. Makes walljumping a lot easier. (Which is good, with walljumping being an integral part of the bonus areas.)

If there's interest in it, I suppose I could work out where the various keys are tested for in the game and write a quick and dirty configuration tool to allow substituting other values. Both the 1.00 and 1.02 exes are identical so no real issue with the different versions. Ideally you should just switch off your sticky keys altogether - playing Touhou's also a real pain when the game SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY MINIMIZES so Windows can ask you if you want to turn on sticky keys (nothing like hearing that "pichu~un!" in the background while you scramble to close the dialog box and return to the game...)

...Who even uses sticky keys for that matter? ^^;

I've turned off sticky keys, but it took me at least 20 attempts before it decided to stay down for good 

I never bothered turning it off because there was never a game where I had to use the shift key so much  :V
At least this game pauses when you switch windows which is nice.

Oh boy, I can't tell you how happy I am to see this. I'm really glad since I enjoy this series a lot. Might you do some of the other games as well?

However, I've run into a slight problem with the download. I can't actually get the translation because, though the download starts, it finished prematurely at 3 or 5 MBs in. I'm not actually sure why, I've tried multiple browsers too. So... if possible... could a mediafire mirror be okay?

Hrm, kinda forgot about this, sorry, sorry!

My host is a free host, so there are occasional bits of downtime or latency. If it acts up, try again a little later and it should be fine. It supports normal HTTP downloads just fine - it's just a bit stubborn at times. I certainly do not mind it being distributed elsewhere, though, so if anyone wants to make a mirror of it be my guest!

Hehe, glad to see you're still onboard Arknarok. KK2 won't take very long at all, now.

There's a lot more to recreate in KK2's images than in KK3's. Often some kanji will overlap the BG and I'll have no way of getting what was "beneath" the kanji's pixels back. The worse so far is Kourindo. I've attempted to make the windows solid but it looks pretty bad.

Luckily most of the other screens have their background available as a seperate, text-free image somewhere in the game's files so it's not too bad. Really, Kourindo's the only one giving me trouble. Seems I'll have to just grit my teeth and recreate the background pixels by hand after all.

I haven't gotten everything translated so far into the game yet but it's just about all there. I had to make a few changes here and there due to space-related issues (for instance, Momiji's orders in the introduction, or some titles in intermission04b) but for the most part it's coming along well. The only image left to recreate in any great detail right now is the music room - everything else I've got a template to use, or it's trivial changes, so the rest shouldn't be too hard (well, for me at least - dunno what the actual translating's like...).

Oh yeah, something I forgot to bring up - I think you skipped over the third skill from the bottom in eq_name.png (right under Gushing Double Gale Fang). You also seem to have skipped msg01_01 (and put msg01_02's dialog instead) - dunno if you just haven't done that one yet though. Everything else is great so far.

Are there different versions of the game? The version I have is 1.01; if you have a different version there could be some incompatibilities between the files (even though the exe itself is 1.01 in your case too, apparently). Shouldn't be hard to fix once I know which patch/version's being affected.

For now, try only replacing the game's images (data_b's contents). Version differences shouldn't cause any problems with those.
