Well, I got to Sinkable Vortex today. Stage 4 is really hard though, it's pissing me off. If I die on Nueball, I don't get the extend and that makes me  :getdown:

Yeah Sinkable Vortex is tough. My capture rate is around 1/4. Better bomb that. And Nueball is sort of static, but you probably figured it out.

Stage 4 is actually one of the easier stages. Get ready to be welcomed to hell.

That's what troubles me - I can't imagine how badly Stage 5 will go if I'm messing up on an "easy" stage. The stage portion is mostly easy, though, it's just the second half of Murasa is murderous. My deathbomb reflex is real damn sharp so I can handle most of the shit she throws at me, but that doesn't solve her final :C

Well, I'm going to take a break for a day so I don't get worn out, and come back to work on the UFO path I got from Krim's 1cc. He handles Stage 2 much much better than me.

The only thing bad about Sinkable Vortex is Murasa's random movements, which are really tough if not impossible to react to when in the thick of the attack. My advice is to make sure you don't go too far above the bottom of the screen, so that should Murasa move away from where you guess she'll go, the bullets won't be angled too sharply to one side.

And yeah, Stage 5 is hell, but only in certain parts - some of the stuff can be memorized, making them easy. Have you unlocked it in a separate run?

And I see you using the dreaded word "deathbomb". :V I don't know much about your playing style, but in case no one else has told you yet, deathbombing is not something you should be relying on. If an attack has a history of kicking your ass, or you suddenly find yourself in a threatening situation, then bomb before any bullets have any chance of reaching you. Resource management, basically. Saves you from potentially not reacting to a hit fast enough (the window is already tight to begin with) and dying with bombs in stock.

Cleared PCB Ultra without focus, yay. Being still a bit tired from all the time I sank into the last weekly, I was not ready to do anything more serious, and tried to spend my time doing something more silly.

Finished with a good amount of lives left, too. Kind of unexpected, given how I was giving it from little to no effort at all. Almost every border was broken, and the total amount of captured Spell Cards was 1 (Chen's second card). I could have captured 80% as well, but I made some really idiotic decision during it and died. Oh well, a clear is a clear - and nothing more.

I - could - upload this ... thing to youtube, but I find it a rather stupid thing to do, given how many PCB ultra clears already have been uploaded. And given how bad I fared. Unless it is specially asked for, which I doubt, this shall remain as unuploaded. I must find something other silly things to do in order to keep the channel alive, I guess.

Hmm, just went to check it out and it has you dying stupidly at Cirno's spell card running into bullets and dashing across screen (or with auto bombs, at Letty's second non).
When did you last download the Ultra mod? (says the ver. date in the readme). PCB's was last updated late March so I'd guess you're using the older one. I know IN had some major changes with more bullets and I think making bullets stray more from seeing bits of Jaimer's old Ultra Lunatic 1cc, maybe PCB too.

Oh I'm happy now. Earlier today, Orin had really made me depressed because my brain refused to cooperate with my hands and caused me all sorts of misery. Upon returning from some exercising I got what I wanted.

No, Orin wasn't lying in my bed wearing a cute outfit but I got something else. A perfect pacifist fight with Orin. Fuck yeah, that's how I wanted it to be. Thank you to Nindel for inspiring me to do this and good luck with pulling it off yourself mate. It's also thanks to you that I actually pacified all of the fight instead of only going for the three tough spellcards which was my original plan.

Vid coming up real soon. Look forward to it. There's a real 'oh shit' moment at the last. i could've lost it there but I thankfully didn't.

I don't think that practicing stage 5 is a priority any time soon. First I have to stop dying on stage 2 and stage 4. Got my UFO schedule written up for the week. I tend to just improvise my way through all my clears, and just sightread absolutely everything/bomb whenever possible, but with UFO I get the feeling I'll need to be deliberate and actually :gasp: think up routes.

Also, what was the "hardest" part for you? The first spell or the final spell?

I'd say the hardest part is the final spell. The strategy for the first spell is actually pretty simple while I have no reliable way to consistently avoid getting bubbles thrown at me when I really don't need it. Also, a failure on the first spell is not that bad since it's right in the beginning of the fight while a failure on the final card will be more soul crushing if it happens following an otherwise flawless fight.

So yeah, definitely the final.

Still struggling against Scarlet Gensokyo, though. edit: And I finally captured that dreaded thing. I know I'm good enough to do this, all I need is to show it in practice.

I just guess I kind of bristled at the implication that I don't know basic resource distribution/planned bombing (which could have just been me reading things wrong because Funen knows I'm not a new player). I guess this is yet another example of me getting way too serious about video games.

Also played some match mode against Rikako and Mima.

Yeah. PoDD's the best, no doubt about it. It's more than just a game. If you look hard enough, it can explain your life to you. And here I said I wasn't going to play any Touhou for a while. PoDD was exempt, but that should have been obvious.

So I also played some PoFV, naturally. Gonna shelve that soon though. Some PCB scoring. That's a strange kind of fun. Overall I'm losing motivation. It's kind of depressing, but at the same time, freeing. I'm going to end my moronic shmup hiatus now. It's served its purpose for me. Didn't take very long, but I learned something. (That's how stupid I am. Go ahead and laugh.)

An unrelated note (more blithering). I've been thinking about Ten Desires. Of all the games after PoFV, I think it's my favorite. Funny, given my former attitude toward it. I've made other revelations too. Stepping away from something gives you a bigger picture, you might say.

Only stab at UFO Stage 5 tonight, managed to perfect the stage portion. The achievement was really more in me capturing the fairy-rush spam in the second half (Greatest Treasure went easy on me this time *sigh*) and confirming that I'm regaining my reflexes. Shou went horribly as usual, but I felt surprisingly at ease as I captured Complete Clarification. Who knows when I'll pull off another perfect run up to that card, but still.

PoFV Extra clear with Komachi and with Shiki.

Got 4 deaths in stage 9 with Shiki, timer on the last round went so low it was ridiculous.
Shiki really is amazing at scoring clearing the screen with her lv.1 attack though, so I didn't have to worry about getting extends.

Guess I'm starting to like PoFV more and more  :3

Cleaned up some StB levels from before. Most notably a 5 second improvement on 7-2 but also shaved off 2 seconds on 8-7 which made me happy. Hard to tell if these times are any good unless other people try them though.
