not only sakuya. I remember during my time I attempted to perfect Flan she just cheated mindlessly. against 4 of a kind, for instance: I tried to squeeze through one of the mini-bubbles and a normal petal. and BAM I died due to the bubble. I was like "...I would have totally survived in any other game" because fuck fair hitboxes. not to mention my hitbox just slightly overlapped with the SPRITE.
and the normal bubbles, anyway > patchy uses them. Remilia, too. oh god, the horror called Young demon lord.

So yeah, EoSD is a big pile of cheating hitboxes. it still has the best extra boss fight :v and scarlet gensokyo's awesome.

To be fair, it would be 'cheating' if the hitbox detection was off or something, but it's more like "these are the OLD hitboxes and you're just not used to them! :D". Can't say the same to some other games.

It's better in my opinion. In the newer games he makes the hitboxes smaller but then clusterfucks everything together. (Devil's Recitation, Cloudy Purple Whatever, etc.) I'd prefer that the sprites actually be representative of the hitboxes and then just have the bullets spaced out more. Or just make the sprites smaller. One or the other.

Hmm. I was actually thinking about Remi and Patchouli as the biggest sinners in terms of the "#%! factor but I guess you could say that a spell like Killing Doll might feel a bit like cheating too but I haven't played against it enough to say anything about it other than the fact that I haven't been able to capture it in less than 4 attempts.

(I don't remember MarisaC's, but I suspect that it's terrible.)
SA MarisaC's bomb is basically a PCB border; as far as I can tell it neither does damage (if it does the amount is lower than ReimuA's) nor gives you invincibility time other than the screen clear. It seems like it's more for the casual players that don't feel like waiting until they're about to die before bombing. I think it's somewhat useful if you know how to deathbomb intentionally (or you're playing the ultra patch with auto-bombs), since if you deathbomb you get a border break then and another before it runs out, though.

Two weeks of shmupping, or two weeks of EoSD Lunatic? Don't break my heart here.

The latter is pretty good too, what am I talking about. The former is crazy nutso though.

I avoided getting hit for 2 and a half minutes again a lunatic Shikieiki.*
While using Aya.
*disclaimer: the Shikieiki was being controlled by a human, but this should hardly detract from the achievement because there were some crazy dodges.  No replay sadly because PoFV crashed when I tried to save it

I've been playing shmups for upwards of 4 years for those who don't know me from Shmups Farm. I wouldn't consider myself a great player, because I tend to get easily distracted from my goals, but thanks for the compliment!

Progress with scoring GFW is slow, but there is progress. Took some stabs at Route B's Stage 1 to mix things up. Daiyousei really is a lot simpler to score on, plus I feel like I'm regaining my reading abilities.

Not just your heart BT, but everyone else's too. :V All the same, congrats RNG.

2 weeks of EoSD Lunatic is impressive. It's one of those 1ccs that take longer than others.

Jeez I'm not sure whether this came so easily because I practiced a lot with ReimuB or whether ReimuC's bomb is just that much more powerful. I got to Subterranean Sun with 3 extra lives, and ended up losing two because of derping. Oh well. That's Reimu down, Marisa, you're up next!

2 weeks of EoSD Lunatic is impressive. It's one of those 1ccs that take longer than others.
Really? I didn't think it was too hard to get. I mean it obviously takes longer than IN or PCB, but I'd say that it isn't too much harder than TD. It seemed to come so effortlessly that I can barely remember my run through it :V.

And congrats RNG! Might I suggest MoF next? It shares a few similarities with EoSD in terms of the difficulty curve (hard stage 4, easy stage 6 with a final boss that isn't too terrible save for a few cards, but with an easier stage 5), and given the ability to bomb abuse, it shouldn't take too long.

I might indeed go with MoF next, thanks for the suggestion (though i have to suppress the urge to scoreplay). And yeah, aside from the smaller-than-normal amount of resources EoSD isn't a tremendously hard clear. It's nothing on the level of SA or UFO.

It's notorious for making you restart over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Personally, it was my first Lunatic and the first Lunatic I attempted, but I know other people have or have had this problem (and, well, I DID only start Lunatic after beating UFO Hard, so there's that).

RNG, feel free to steamroll MoF and PCB. They should fall after only a few attempts. IN needs a bit of learning but otherwise it's really easy too.

SA isn't that hard to beat either if you bomb everything you feel threatened by.
TD is frustrating due to how few resources you have-and you probably need all of them.  That, and a death costs you whatever you had in addition to your trance.

Nice job on the EoSD clear, a lot of parts depend on luck but at the same time a lot depend on skill.

Well MoF was fun, just made it to that Onbashira attack first try.

also a hilarious luckdodge during Stage 5 practice.

I've been playing for 4.5 hours today so I better take a break, sheesh.

Depends on how many things you feel threatened by, obviously. You need to know what you're doing to make sure you aren't falling too far behind on Power, after all.

But if Trances themselves count as resources, then TD certainly has quite a few (especially when playing as Sanae). Not as many as PCB of course, but you get the idea.

I was mostly blind and cleared anyway via bombing whenever I felt threatened.  This resulted in a really good mostly 0 power Yuugi fight.

Well that's interesting. I concede that point. Though I'm not sure "completely blind" would have been the right way to describe it. I take it you knew the general function of each attack from lower difficulties, correct? That can certainly help with resource management, though not to a large degree obviously.

Her special ability is that blue spirits fill up the Trance meter the same amount as gray ones (I believe the ratio is 2:3 normally, so it becomes 1:1 for Sanae).

That's true, but I assume most people going for lunatic have already beaten hard (funnily enough my hard clear had a blind Stage 6).  The resource management is shown by me dying to Utsuho's 3rd nonspell with 4 bombs in stock.

I am so tired of people whining about EoSD's hitboxes every freaking time the game is brought up.
To be fair, the bubble hitboxes in EoSD aren't representative of anything.  While they're closer to the full bullet sprite in EoSD, in the later games they're very close to the size of inner circle, and that's more intuitive and easier to read.

But yeah, Metal Fatigue hitboxes are just fine.  lrn2play, etc.  And the typical bullet hell thing of having bullets several times larger than their hitboxes just so things look pretty is and always has been stupid.  Just like every other decision to favor form over function.

It seems like it's more for the casual players
Aha!  No wonder I love it.

It isn't actually that useful in my experience. (I tried using Sanae for my first Hard 1cc, which took a while, then switched to Reimu for Lunatic and got that 1cc rather quickly. And it's not that TD Hard's difficulty is above-average for a Hard; I'm more consistent at TD Hard now than I am at the other games' Normal modes.)

Considering how nearly half of the spirits are gray, you're only gaining like 20-30% more trance gauge (20 blue spirits + 10 gray spirits = 70 for most characters, 90 for Sanae). Sanae's lower power means you might not be filling the trance gauge much/any faster against bosses, since the rate the spirits appear depends on the amount of damage dealt, and on the stage portions, you'll likely be waiting until the next set of pink/green spirits before you actually use the trance anyway, so it doesn't really matter if the gauge was filled a bit earlier.

RNG playing touhou games now? What's the world coming to...

Congrats on your (first?) lunatic clear. EoSD is kind of simple when using safe stats, most of the stage portions can be trivialized after all. not so simple if you want teh scores? and then there's the bosses, of course. As I'm sure you're aware, the trick is to not save up on bombs, and you can clear it every time if you know the game well, despite the boss randomness.

Speaking from personal experience, what I've enjoyed the most to clear on lunatic was Fairy Wars, all routes at that. I highly recommend this very unique, fast and fun game, it is oddly overlooked by Touhou players. I also enjoyed PoFV so much that I cleared it with all characters. UFO and PoDD are both very fun ones but they're pretty brutal.

SA, TD and IN are kind of annoying on lunatic. Annoying as in, you'll get mostly a mixture of boring easy shit and stupid shit. That's just me though.
