Why would you be concerned with Kinkaku-Ji when I just cleared the entire game as Aya?

Oh and just stating again, Illusionary Dominance as a final card was REALLY disappointing.

Why would you be concerned with clearing the entire game with Aya when Namazu did it in a tenth of the time?

Answer: because it's an accomplishment to you. So clearly clearing 9-7 was an accomplishment to fonduemaster. You get what I'm saying? (it's that accomplishments are relative and not absolute if they were absolute very few of us what have nothing to say)

Also shut up SP-9 is best scene :V

More specifically

I did it in one try. The kid that sucked at Orreries' Solar System because he sucked at remembering laser hitboxes.

I mean all that SP-9 is, is an overglorified rehash. All it does is increase rank, no second or third phase. Don't get me wrong, it's fun and all, but for a Double Spoiler card it's easy and for a final card it's disappointing. I mean, Shiki's Crystal Mirror as a final pre-EX spell was wonderful as a final spell. It DESERVED a spot as final spell, as cruel as it can be at times. We've seen Illusionary Dominance before, though. That's the thing. If we hadn't seen it before I would have thought it was a good final spell but the only thing that's worse than insulting the fans by including Shinki's attacks but not Shinki or Mima is making the final, anticipated spell of the game a rehash of a Stage 4 spell that's not even as hard because photography.

TLDR version: SP-9 doesn't deserve its spot, Crystal Mirror was a much better final spell, excluding EX.

Yes but the topic at hand was that I had cleared the entirety of Double Spoiler as Aya. I'm not saying anything mean about Fondue nor thinking it, I just think it odd that Fondue brought up 9-7 when the last card I played was SP-9.

e: Wait I'm not trying to focus on kinkaku-ji, I know that unlocking hatate is a big accomplishment, but kinkaku-ji is arguably one of the more harder cards and if you clear that it's a good accomplishment. Nowhere as big as getting Hatate.

Oh and yes, I agree SP-9 was kinda of a disappointment, ZUN could've at least added a twist to it. IMO he needs someone in the creative department.

Yeah, that memorization-fest Mirror thing is so much better than unlimited PWG spell practice. How disappointing it was to find one of the coolest spells from MoF reused in DS without being defiled by some dumb gimmick! >=[

Um, it happened again...

So after saying I was going to do MoF next, I played through for about 2 hours and unlocked the stages (god stage 6 was annoying as hell to unlock). Then I decided hey what the hell I might as well unlock the PCB stages since it's a lot easier to unlock them. Then I remembered I love PCB, mostly because I swear the music inspires me to do crazy things. I did a few practice runs on each stage, along the way capturing every card except for Sumizone and 80% reflowering, both of which I got within 2 seconds of capturing at least once.

Today I was just messing around seeing how far I could get on 1 credit. Over the course of 2 hours, I went from failing mid stage 4 to failing just prior to midboss youmu in stage 5. One or two runs later, I finally break through and get to Youmu. I beat her (not great but I wasn't really expecting much considering the amount of practice I put in) and move on to stage 6 where I use getting max power to clear the massive spam without a bomb. I failed ageless obsession

and figured I wouldn't stand a chance against Yuyuko with 1/4. Guess I was wrong lol.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay die Kanako, My first 1CC clear in any touhou game at Normal Level. I ended with 5 lives on stock, Vsync patch can do miracles, before using it I always was using my last life at Kanako's last spell card. Now it's time to beat Suwako

Nice job, good luck with Suwako, she was my first EX clear. Her fight isn't too bad, since most spells have a "relatively" easy trick or path that can make them repeatable.

At least Crystal Mirror wasn't a rehash of something we've already seen. It's rather fun IMO I recall playing it (Although not capturing) when I used someone else's save because I wanted to see the end of the game. I can say it's much more fun than randomly-falling green needles. I'm not saying Illusionary dominance is BAD, I just don't think it's that fun of a card, nor do I think it's a good spell to be using in the spot of "Last Spell of the Game". Given, Crystal Mirror wasn't EVEN the last spell of the game, but it was worth being called a last spell.

Now at stage 9 in StB, and I'm liking it far better than stage 8. It's much more regular read 'n dodge.

Captured Red Stone of ~~Eli-jah~~Eija (prolly misspelled). It's strange when I capture things in stage 9 while I'm not even done in stage 5 yet.

Lunatic C2 cleared! A lot of tricky parts in Stages 2 and 3 and a lot of deaths, but I still managed to get one of my better scores somehow.

Stage 4 went quite well, so I had two stupid deaths in stage 5 to balance things a bit.
Got like 75% of VoWG without bombing/dying before it turned into "oh sh*t".

Play through UFO lunatic Stage 6 a few times using the cheat tables to be able to try to capture everything at full power without fear of game overing.

almost get basically everything, except first nonspell (cap every time) 3rd nonspell (capped once) and...LFS!?!?!?
Byakuren isn't that fun [yet] though, so I know I'm bombing everything if/when I get there.
Because seriously everything is either luck or memo as far as I can tell.

Her 1st, 3rd and 4th come down to luck for me. (though yes I know Devil's Recitation is dodging)
3rd and 4th nonspells are "do they clip me or not"
2nd nonspell is stupid.

Got her 4th nonspell twice in a row anyway.

Seriously, though, she's got one memorization Spellcard (though I guess you could say that the fourth NS-Pattern does count to a certain degree since it has directional elements), but everything else has little to do with memorization, fairly sure that the penultimate Spellcard is random, even though the basic layout is static. If you feel that it's all about luck, you simply need more practice. I'm 100% sure that you'll be able to make progress there and, subsequently, have more fun, so don't be too quick to give up, you'd be missing out on a lot.

There's a specific way to do Superhuman, but it is not completely static and requires skill to dodge.

First spell card is very hard, but has a strategy to it.

Third spell card has a general rhythm that makes it very doable.

Fourth spell card is both very neat and very fair.

Second non-spell has a rhythm to it.

Third non-spell is straight reading.

Fourth non-spell has a trick but still requires reading to do effectively.

So basically, everything you call "luck" is a lot more attributable to you not knowing how to handle it. :T Call me overreacting, but I think that mindset will only hold you back, because you're thinking "oh this is luck so I probably won't win."

Everything I called "luck" specifically requires good RNG for me to be able to do it.
I'd like to know those methods then.
Devil's Recitation I almost just captured, but I got hit by the arrow wall.
I did capture Magic Butterfly and Magic Milky Way though.

Since you've been able to come this far, I hope you realize it's not as simple as giving you the method. -^o I can tell you how I do them, but they are by no means 100% capture rates, nor are they all there is to the card. If you really want to get good at Byakuren (or any of UFO for that matter), you'll have to commit to a lot of playing. Study replays, too.

Free tip for Superhuman though: Stick to the left. Do not move from the lower left region of the screen.

I don't expect to always capture this stuff, what I do want to know how to capture it so that should I get there with no bombs it's not a guaranteed death.

Sticking to the left on Superhuman instakills me when Byakuren charges up due to not being able to see the bullets though the effect.

edit: yay Devil's Recitation capture in only 7 tries.
edit2: on attempt numbers 9 and 11 I got her 2nd nonspell and Cloudy Way in Purple, respectively. Just need Superhuman and I've captured everything in lunatic Stage 6.
edit3: attempt number 17 FINALLY captured Superhuman. Next up I might as well grind out Stage 5 because that's at least fun unlike Stage 3 and not incredibly random like Stage 4.
