Well, that went better than expected; close 1cc attempt in GFW, made it to the Fairy Overdrive on B2. And I still don't really know how to tackle this card effectively even though you'd think that I'd get it by now. Sometimes I nearly capture it and other times I waste one bomb and two lives on it.

Knowing me I'll suck for one week in every single attempt I put into this game - guess I should do something else while I'm waiting for my suck-timer to run out. (= after all, anything I do now will fall behind my unreasonable expectations, so I'd rather take a break with a good feeling about this instead of raging about my own incompetence)

Oh man. I ehh... can't PC98 anymore. I couldn't even clear Extra on LLS in the two tries I could be bothered to give it and a lot of the deaths were to slow-moving snowballs. First attempt had three deaths on the stage alone. (Seriously shitty stage too btw but that's just standard for ZUN)

So basically my issues can be boiled down to:

- I have NO idea where the hitbox is. I know it's probably dead center on my character but I have no sense of where it is when I'm not directly looking at the character. Which is something I normally don't do too much.

- Both character's movement speeds feel weird.

- The graphics are ugly as hell and at times stuff can be hard to see because it's blending in with the background or because the pixelated nature irritates my eyeballs. (A very whiny point, i know, but it's seriously easier to dodge stuff when you aren't looking at an ugly mess of pixels)

Not that ZUN ever got rid of this. In PC98 I can actually accept it due to technical limitations but whenever he still does it in the modern games my face just can't contain enough palm.

Due to all the LLS Extra talk I just had to give it a spin, it's been awhile.

I think I unlocked Ultra-mode.

It began right at the start of the bossfight and prevailed for the rest of the stage. Died to the first pattern of the second boss, herp. But hey, I've got a good excuse!

edit: Tried again... well I did better against the second boss, but the first boss went actually way worse compared to the glitched run. Oh me, I just can't understand you sometimes.

Worst part about PCB Ultra-Phantasm without autobombs? THERE IS LIKELY NO VIDEO OR REPLAY OF THAT THAT IS LEGITIMATELY ABLE TO LOCATE EASILY. I make my own fucking strategies for the semi-bullshit cards.

Ultra phantasm breaks the replays, unless the patch has been altered so there are indeed no replays of it.

However, there are several youtube videos of it, and pretty much every single one I have seen (I have watched two), besides mine which sucks, has a pretty solid strategy and route for handling the stage.

IIRC you can perfect the stage up to Yukari quite easily (The way of handling everything is unchanged), but you could bomb for points once or twice.
Yukari's every non is easily doable, but I think the 5th one could just be bombed.
1st card is a bombspam, unless someone has a solid route for it.
2nd card is an easy capture.
3rd card is heavy dodging, and captureable.
4th card is pretty bullsiht, time a border and bomb if you are uncertain of the bullet paths.
5th card is an easy capture IIRC.
6th can get tricky - hang near to Yukari while circling.
7th card, time a border, pop it to cancel two waves. Bomb if needed.
8th card got some nice improvement, but the way of doing it is exactly the same.
9th card is a bit different, but it is doable. However, you could just bomb.
10th card safespot.
11th card easy capture, completely unchanged in the way of doing it.

Doing something for the fact that you could show off with it is usually a bad idea and leads into anger. You should not worry about not having replays, just do it and beat that stage to feel good yourself. Achievements should be personal first, public after.

And you could record live.

I think this is the one time that anything has made me legitimately cry regarding these games. I've had the goal of beating this stage for nine months. To have my success wrenched out of my hands by my computer...

It's just heartbreaking.

Everything else I complained about wasn't even that long of a goal when it was realistic.

OH OH OH AND THE BEST PART ABOUT THE REPLAY? IT ENDED WITH TWO LIVES TWO BOMBS REMAINING.

Yes, this can be a big problem at times, sometimes I die and didn't ever see the shot or there will be a shot hidden behind a power or score point, I got used to seeing shots behind them now though and just go "Haha, no Zun"

On the other hand I'm opposite about the pixel graphics, and I think they have their charm.

Lol I lose my last life to Hell's Tokamak at 3 power when I know that you get a full power refill before Okuu's last spell card and I know that I can definitely clear it on 4 power. Why must I take so many dumb risks... I even failed the spell card already... Why would I not just bomb the hell out of it?

Also I seem to lose lives to the BoWaP fairies. I don't understand how that's happening. I just don't know what's going wrong.

Why did I only use two bombs

1 death to the books'
1 death to Flan's second non-spell
1 ridiculously stupid derp death to Laevateinn
1 bomb to Catadiatropic
1 bomb to the survival
Then died at the end of the survival with just 1 bomb left. I can't dodge the blue shot pattern at all.

God I'm so close to clearing this. I figure I'll need a couple lives for Q.E.D, should be able to do that too :3
Oh, and the score is abysmal because I'm trying to play it safe and ignore points items.

I didn't manage to get a replay, as I rage-continued.

While I am on my attempt to 1CC Remi normal, I had 4 lives (no bombs) from the start of Stage 6, looking pretty good, I guess.

Died to Ripple Fairies, acceptable, I kind of predicted that one anyway, down to 3 lives 3 bombs

Sakuya, whoops, accidentally screwed up, lost a life and a bomb

Eternal Meek, the last bomb ended at the start of the spell, and I got hit when I am thinking if I should bomb again or not. :V

So basically, I started from 4 lives down to 1, nice job screwing up this one.

My reqular computer has been having some trouble with stuff like any Touhou game or MAME lately.

Since I am unable to get the computer fixed in time, I have spent the last few days getting into the controls my secondary computer has. Which is not going too well.

For example, I spent four hours today, restarting PCB stage 1 on normal since I am unable to control Reimu on 100% static stuff. And the mistakes were not due to unlucky RNG, they were all entirely my fault. I am too slow getting into new conditions of gameplay, which really has been making me suck lately. Suck enough to think about full quitting, but I am not at that point yet.. It's just the pressure. First UFO and now this, it has not been my summer shmupwise, really.

I have done nothing since that IN easy magic team score and it feels like I have been gradually getting worse. I mean just look at the current weekly, I actually tried and got beaten by some kid who I have never thought of as a formidable foe. It is very, very depressing.

Fortunately STGT is still so far away, I have two full days to get back into shape, since some people are waiting me to pull off miracles.

This really is not fun anymore. And fun was my main motivator.

Sorry for the rant, I really had to let some steam out after all the big depressing failures of this summer.

I was bored and decided to do a phantasm run with Sakuya. I fail through the stage portion HORRENDOUSLY, beginning Yukari with no lives.

I decided to let the 1 up from stage 5 Sakuya midboss fall off screen

But I did manage to reach Remilia in the same run. And seeing as how this is only my 3rd run through EoSD Lunatic, there are probably going to be many opportunities in the future to beat Meiling/Patchy/Sakuya/Remilia, especially since I don't find stage 1 as rage worthy as SA stage 1. All I have to do is learn how to do all the stuff I had trouble on...

And I'm also calling it now that about a week from now, I'll still be struggling with this game as every run through this game will have about 50 derp deaths to just about everything :V.
