> Follow those footprints and mud tracks!
> But not headfirst into a tree, please.

>You follow the footprints as they angle a bit toward the southeast. Soon you lose sign of them again, and find yourself following the path of least resistance again. The forest is quiet, save for birdsong and such. At one point, your passage sends a small raccoon scurrying into the underbrush. You start to hear a stream up ahead, which would keep in the direction that you've been following, while the least overgrown path bends further east. Obvious exists are east, south, and north.

>To the west, the forest gets thick enough that you couldn't easily fly through it. You certainly couldn't imagine anyone walking through it without leaving a lot of obvious traces.

>Making your way over the brush, you skirt around a stand of trees and can see some of the brush moving. before you can make out a distinct polka-dotted blue dress and white shirt poking out from it; it seems that your cohort is rummaging on the ground for something.

This is Sanae we're talking to. White shirt, polka dot blue dress, most recent cohort. Though why she's looking for a shuriken is anyone's guess.

>You look over the last few yards. It is pretty much all covered in various dead brush. If it fell anywhere there, it would be easily lost.

>"Well I saw him," says Sanae, "Then I chased him in here, and I lost him. And I looked around for awhile, and I ran into him. I told him to stop, and he wouldn't listen or even say anything."
>She checks the ground near herself again before continuing. "So I shot some danmaku at him to let him know I meant business. Next thing you know he's whirling around and I just barely got out of the way of that shuriken! Have you ever had a shuriken thrown at you? I sure haven't until today! By the time I realized what happened and calmed down, he was long gone. I tried to find him again, but no luck. So I came back here and am trying to figure out where the stupid thing landed."

>You start moving some brush. Why you do not see anything like a shuriken, you note some small branches that have been neatly cut.
>"I don't know what's going on his head," says Sanae. "I wonder if he's a ninja? Does Gensokyo have ninja?"

>She nods. "Well, I'd like to think I've blended in over the years, but there's always things to learn."

> "By the way, it looks like some of these branches on the ground here were cut clean."

>"Really?" she says, crawling toward you. "Aha!"
>She reaches into the brush, and pulls out a shuriken, about the side of her palm, made of some kind of silvery-gray metal with slight green tinting. It has bits of mud clinging to most of it length, suggesting it was mostly buried. "Oooh, would have been bad if someone stepped on this."
