Hm well this one popped up into my head while playing a quick round this morning (which is pretty awesome by the way. Feeling refreshed + getting that Touhou high feels great and makes me a bit more excited to tackle the day!)

What is the easiest pattern/attack that when dodged properly and when watched by an untrained eye, seems the most impressive?

So basically the easiest pattern you can think of, perhaps even trivial, that would yet be extremely impressive to someone with no STG/Touhou experience? (No, I don't know why this question popped into my head)

Something like Honest Man's Death is piss easy and also unimpressive. What's so impressive about a single tap? Something like VoWG is on the opposite end, where it's extremely hard, yet extremely impressive when watched by anyone.

So how about combining the two extremes? I haven't given much thought to this myself, but I'll throw out one just as an idea. Perhaps Stage 4 of UFO with a forward shot type (excluding the red portion because that is definitely not easy)? Honestly I've always found stage 4 to be easy because you get so many UFOs that a lot of the truly hard stuff becomes rather trivial, but I'm thinking that perhaps all the dodging and moving around and weaving through bullets to collect UFOs would be impressive to a casual observer. This idea might be slightly tinged by the fact that all I've been playing recently is SA and UFO so... I'm sure there are better ones out there! (Or maybe a completely obvious one that I've missed)

Every pattern is the easiest when dodged properly, because dodging properly means you didn't get hit.

(I'd have to think about that one)

Pretty much anything that can be memorized fits this.
I'd probably go with Croaking Frog Eaten by Snake due to how much extra stuff there is going on despite how simple the actual dodging is, or Mysterious Snake Show-"HOW DO OU NOW THOSE ARE GOING THERE"

Hina's opener because:

-always was a freebie
-fills the screen with bullets in what might look somewhat random
-you can dodge it without revealing the nature of the tiny hitboxes making you look more 1337
-it's somewhat fast and coupled with the music people will probably buy it

While probably a shit standard, I am ways from consistency on Kaguya's 4th last spell.

It is simple, yeah, but easy to fail and so late in the game that you will be jumpy on good runs.

I guess I could say timing out SFN is oddly easy once you have enough practice with it, but, enough practice might make everything easy.

But I've said SFN enough, so we'll go with Repository of Hirokawa. Magic Butterfly as well, I guess.

Flandre's Counter Clock and Lavatein seem like they might fit here. Also, many of Reisen's cards, and Subterranean Sun.

Murasa's third non is the only thing that comes to mind. But maybe I'll think of something better later.

Border of Wave and Particle is a good one. It's memo, which makes it easy after you've learned it, but other people watching wouldn't know that, so they'd go "how the hell do you not get dizzy from this?"

Satori's non-spells, "Snake Eats the Croaking Frog," and about one-third of Koishi's stuff, in my opinion. They look frightening as hell but don't take a huge amount to dodge in my experience.

For a start, anything with flashy laser shows and look fast, but are easily doable

What comes to mind are:
Mystia Lorelei's SpellCards, when those arrow-like projectiles reach high speeds
Keine's Phantasmal Emperor, looks 1337 when you dodge through them narrow spaces via the most basic of methods [I had many "WTF how you did that" after doing a field test in school, but eh, most "easy when you know what to do" SpellCards garner that reaction.]
Also, Reisen's Visionary Tuning/Illusion Seeker, when you mastered it, it becomes a lot easier and impressive too. Her Invisible Full Moon also counts when you figure out the secret behind it.

Marisa's Master Spark and Stardust Reverie and her 2nd non-spell was what gathered most reaction, however, tied with Visionary Tuning.

I'd say byakuren's good omen :V I find it pretty easy, to be honest. it somewhere clicked for me and...eh, yeah. it's still "only" around 50/50 recently. so I dunno

Murasa's third definitely belongs here. so flashy, but once you've got a path, it's pretty easy. I never bothered to memorize BoWaP, so uhh...W/e :v
another thing that's pretty easy, but look ass-fuck flashy is shou's last spellcard. HURR DURR. and grudge bow, too.

...I feel like I'm missing something

Byakuren. Good Omen. Easy? What have you been smoking? What's the secret? Does it have anything to do with Flandre? Are you sure it's not just lucky RNG? If not, shame on me.  :V

eh, no. I admit it's difficult, but it seems to be one of the few things I can do pretty well, despite them being hard. I dunno if 50% is lucky RNG only, but it possibly has something to do with it. I just might be wird. I can't do her 2nd non for shit, though. my average death count on it is 2-3 :V

After a bit of thinking, I think my answer is Kaguya's third last spell. When you just look at it, it's a go-to picture for "this is how insane danmaku is," but it's really pretty easy once you learn how to overcome the information overload. I hardly ever fail it.

Oddly enough I find the 2nd non to be generally much more manageable.  :V But that's because I just seem to be able to dodge weird things sometimes while i'm still a worthless fucktard that can't dodge simple patterns like RTG or CC with consistency. Only sometimes. Which is indeed pretty worthless.

Parsee's Midboss spell, Mystia's final card, Koishi's first and second cards, Satori's non-spells, Kanako's "Mountain of Faith" (unless on easy, thanks ZUN). Can't think of anymore for me.

Okay, Marisa's first midboss' card is rather easy and overwhelming at the same time.

To the untrained eye huh... I guess I'd go with Reflowering.  Weaving through the red bullets before they split makes the spell way easier, but to a novice it's something that would look super hard and make you think "Wow, this guy's ridiculously good!"  It's really cool like that  BV

I was playing EoSD Stage 6 Lunatic at school once (because I'm that cool), and when I got to Remilia's three-part nonspell, people flipped out when I dodged the fast bubble attack. So apparently that one. Also, Thousand Needle Mountain looked really impressive to me as a noob, but I wouldn't call that attack trivial (but maybe I'm just bad).

What is the hardest pattern/attack that when dodged properly and when watched by an untrained eye, seems the least impressive?
Exact opposite time!

I'm going to go with Double Spoiler 9-7: when you get lucky it looks like you just sit there and move a couple times and capture it, but no one who hasn't tried it know how hellish the RNG gets.

Anything scoring. Anything from HS's Yuyuko. But I'll go with Hourai Jewel. Which requires insane amounts of practice to be done properly.

The Eight Million Laughing Gods.

Requires a ton of practice to be done properly, and even with said practice it's really easy to screw it up.

Looks like a total joke card to anyone who hasn't actually tried the thing.
