Flint could evade easily, but likely wouldn't be able to hurt the thing very well. Lighter could do damage, but would have a harder time staying in the fight, wheras Myon's likely somewhere in-between.

Thoughts? I'd say either Lighter or Myon; we won't get anywhere if we can't do damage.

Agreed.  Myon would probably have an easier time not getting getting screwed because of his movepool and he could probably do ranged better.  Also, Haunter's only ability is Levitate, which renders Earthquake useless.

I'd say we should go for Myon, but I'd like to see what other people think first.

> "...Um, it talks. Neat." Jasmine says. "Rusty, would you dig, followed by crunch?" The Steelix roars in approval, and Myon's jaw hits the ground upon seeing it. Literally. Shapeshifting has it's advantages when it comes to expressing emotions.

> "Yeah you're still mad," Myon says as the steelix burrows. "That's gonna be one tough cookie. So what's the plan boss?"

> "Naturally," Myon says as the ground swells under him. He lurched backwards and up just quickly enough to avoid being gobbled, and makes eye contact with the Steelix. Then, his eyes spin as he swirls his hands. The Steelix seems to be tottering a bit. "Now it won't know who is who and which way is up. Watch: Steelix, haunter's right behind you, charge it!"

> Jasmine shouts, "No, Rusty, don't do that!" as the steelix turns directly towards you. You leap out of the way as the pokemon imbeds itself into the stadium wall, knocking a new hole in the building. Myon laughs.

> Myon may be a jerk, but judging by how the steelix is shaking its head you figure at least it took some damage. Jasmine shouts a new command "Rusty, um, I know your confused, so just stand still and use dragonbreath on the thing above you." The Steelix turns towards the stadium and inhales.

I agree with the Shadow Ball. But make sure to let the Haunter know that dodging is paramount.

I agree with the Shadow Ball. But make sure to let the Haunter know that dodging is paramount.

> The giant snake begins shooting blue flames all over the stadium, with no direction nor target. Myon puts some distance between itself and the snake before shooting off a couple shadow balls. The distance reduces his accuracy, but at least one of the balls connects. It shakes the attack off, and stops tottering altogether. Judging by how it's panting Myon's attacks must be wearing it down, but you believe it's sheer durability means you'll need a few more hits on it.

> "Um..." Jasmine says. "Rusty, I'd like you to try dig followed by crunch again. But this time follow up with dragonbreath if you miss." The monstrous snake nods once and burrows into the ground.

> As the ground pops underneath Myon, he makes for a rock. Steelix bursts out of the ground and chases after his escape with blue flames. When the flames die Myon reveals himself, waving his hand and spinning his eyes. Then your haunter begins counting. "1! 2! 3! 4!" it commands, Steelix bending into the shape of each number as it's called.

> "Rusty, please wake up!" Jasmine commands, as Myon eyes the Steelix hungrily. Steelix does not respond to Jasmine.

> "5! 6! 7! 8! Should I curse it first, or may I begin my meal immediately?" your haunter asks.

> "9!" Myon finishes, biting down into the steelix's head as it contorts into the shape of a nine. Well, not exactly a bite, instead of clenching the head your haunter's "teeth" pass straight through the steelix, as Jasmine begs her pokemon to wake up. Myon sucks out the dreams for about 30 seconds before the steelix snaps out of its trance with a roar you could easily confuse with a scream.

> "Um... Rusty, are you ok?" Jasmine asks. The snake shivers for a second before eventually nodding back. "Good. Then dig. When you pop up, do crunch into dragonbreath again. If that haunter tries to hide among the rocks, use earthquake ok?" Signaling it's agreement, Rusty jumps head-first into the ground.

> Myon burps. "What next? I can't dodge an earthquake if I'm underground."

> Myon floats up to the arena's ceiling as Jasmine's steelix emerges, chomping into the air. "Um, Rusty, new plan. Keep your eyes glued to the roof and blast anything that moves with dragonbreath." Both Jasmine and her pokemon are frantically searching for any sign of your Myon.

> Myon's hands materialize behind the snake. It winds up for the punch and strikes with what would have been a devastating blow on most opponents. But against this monstrosity, you hear a disembodied voice reverberate through the stadium complaining about hurting its hands. You recall the pokedex mentioning steelix being harder than diamond; you may not believe that, but it is certainly not something you'd want to punch any more than a tank. The steelix responds by blasting the hands with dragon fire.

> "Chomp it." Jasmine declares. The steelix lurches forwards and crunches down on the two hands, then get's blasted back by a shadow ball from within it's own mouth and topples over. "Rusty, are you still ok?" Jasmine asks, but the snake doesn't move. Jasmine has it return, and you call your Myon back to your side.

>  Jasmine pauses. "...You are a better Trainer than me. In accordance with League rules, I confer upon you a Badge. Um... Please, take this, too... It is called Iron Tail. Your Pok?mon will hit the target with its hard tail... It's like tail whip, but much stronger."



> You receive the Mineral Badge and TM 23 from Jasmine. You also receive 5000 P, putting you at 28,600 P.

> Jasmine then approaches you. "...Um, you use your haunter well," she says, leaving with you through the front door. You figure she must be headed to the pokemon center.

> "Nah, it's more like I'm such a great ghost, I make her look good by association." Myon says, flexing imaginary muscles. "When you have a pokemon as strong, intelligent, and handsome as myself, it's easy to mistake my virtues with boss's abilities." Jasmine cracks a smile.

> "...I know a lot about steel types, if you're interested." The gym leader says. "Would you like to hear about them?" You consider whether you have any questions for the leader or interest in the type. You wonder if she knows much about the steel types in Sinnoh.

> "...Sometimes scyther evolve into them, it depends on location." Jasmine explains. "If you were to bring a Scyther to Chargestone cave in Unova, or Mt. Coronet in Sinnoh, you could get it to evolve into a Scizor. Um... Those aren't the only locations, but they're the best known. Mt. Coronet is also a great place to bring pokemon like Magneton and Nosepass to evolve."

> "Scizor can take most anything well except heat. When it comes to steel types indifferent to fire, you'll want either one that's part rock, Empoleon, or Bronzong. There's also Heatran which is great at taking fire, but you'd have to bury into a volcano to find one."
