>"Sorry, no can do. I just don't throw a fight y'know. Not when I'm the one who issued the challenge in the first place."

"Hey goddess. Do you know how to receive faith from people?"

>"If people actually knew you did that, it means you do not have faith in your own pokemon, and will do any dirty tricks for a win. Nobody will give faith to such person. Your pokemons have faith in you, so give your own faith to them. If you use underhanded tactics such as this, they will lose their faith in you."

If anyone rejects the line above, feel free not to include it.

I'm all for that. Hit 'er where it hurts.

> "Do you pray?" Sanae asks. "Do you pray for victory? And tell me, do you call that cheating, asking your gods to favor you in battle? My pokemon have faith that I'll be here for them, and I have faith in my gods who are here for me. It is Kanako who changes the winds, for Kanako has granted me her favor." Sanae points her gohei straight at you. "It is disrespectful of my god for you to win against her will, as her will is law. Should you wish to continue fighting the will of the gods, so be it."

>Flare up the aura at full blast! "I'll show you this truth of the world that I've learned in my unending life."

> You toss your bag a safe distance away and flare up your aura at full blast. The ground under your feet it scorched, and the flames are 2 stories high. You think full blast might have been excessive.

> "That's all well and good for an immortal, but gods cannot survive on their own two feet. They must have legions of followers to have substance, with which they grant their blessings in exchange for faith. At one time, that relationship would determine the outcome of wars." A whirlwind forms around Sanae, kicking up dirt into a spiraling vortex. "So tell me, shall we finish the battle? Or should we fight eachother instead? I suppose we could both walk away right now."

>"It is not cheating for them to favor you. I don't mind if you actually assist your own pokemon. However, you are making them feel like they can't do anything on their own."

> "Ekans couldn't do it on his own. Ekans has no attacks that can reach as high as your Spearow, that acid attack of his is his longest ranged move. Neither does Croagunk. Without Kanako's blessing, all my pokemon would have been helpless to your whirlwinds."

> "Be aware, in Hoenn battles are a full contact sport. You win when the other trainer submits. They wouldn't have blinked at you handing your pokemon a spell card. Now enough talking."

Ponder how such a large area functions with so many destructive creatures and not a single police officer. Seriously, that's incredible.

Also, let's not quite go all out, because this IS still Johto, and we DO still have rules here. Remind Sanae of that.

> Well, Gensokyo doesn't really have law enforcement either, just a couple of individuals that swoop in and save the day whenever someone dangerous gets too rowdy. You imagine you should call a local about it.

> "Hm..." Sanae glances around. "I suppose it would be bad if the houses get caught in the crossfire. Tell you what," she says, dropping the winds around herself. "To the west is a small beach, known for particularly hardy bugs that I'm interested in catching. It's nice and quiet, no buildings to get in the way, and it'll be abandoned by this hour. If you want to go all out, meet me there between 10 and midnight."

I think we're ready as we'll ever be, and we don't want to miss our ship tomorrow. So we should probably get the battle over with tonight.

>Challenge the gym. Better to do so now than to do it tomorrow.

> You head over to the gym down the street. After a brisk walk, you arrive at the front doors. It's designed like a large, old stadium, you notice holes in the roof. You are surprised at the lack of maintenance.

>Do we know what type this gym is?

> The sign next to the gym describes the leader as ""The Steel-Clad Defense Girl." You haven't seen any steel types before. You enter through the front door to a room where the ground could charitably be described as thrown in a blender, there are rocks jutting out in so many places you have a hard time finding footing. As you turn you gaze down the stadium, you see a girl at the other end playing with her pokemon. She stops.

*Mod note: I apologize if there was any confusion; the match was going to be a single battle. I crossed out the no longer valid outcomes, the type of battle will now be determined by a quick vote.*

> You note the terrain is extremely rocky, while your pokemon will be able to find cover, they will have some difficulty moving about and getting a firm footing. You do not think this will be an issue for her magnet pokemon since they levitate. You also figure that the steel-plated monster of a snake can probably burrow pretty well.
