When there's heavy winds running about, it might not be a good idea to have something in the air. Consider switching to Lighter.

> Switch in Lighter and give it a pat on the head on it's way in.
> Palm [Everlasting "Phoenix's Tail"] which we stick onto Lighter while patting him.

> You aren't sure if you really want something in the air right now. You palm your [Everlasting "Phoenix's Tail"] spell.

> Mirror Move

Mirror move....That might just work.

Either it'll work, or we'll be sending out Lighter soon anyway. I guess might as well try it.

> But you decide you'd like to try out mirror move first. After all, either it'll work, or you'll be sending out Lighter soon anyway. You guess you might as well try it.

Mirroring Pidgeotto's idle flapping isn't going to produce the same big winds for us then.

> You aren't confident you'll get the same effect since Spearow is a lot smaller than Pidgeotto, but you decide to give it a shot anyway.

> "Flint, use mirror move." The tiny bird rapidly flaps its wings, creating it's own gale. A fairly large whirlwind is forming in the gym; it's becoming nearly impossible and fairly dangerous for either pokemon to stay airborn.

> Open the gym windows and doors to dissipate the wind.

> You consider this, but you don't think it would be practical. The windows don't appear to open, and the door isn't big enough to make much difference. You idly wonder why a flying type gym wouldn't just be open-air for the pokemon, and it occurs to you that maybe creating large whirlwinds like this is part of the leader's strategy. You don't have much time to contemplate this as Falkner makes his next command; "Pidgeotto, hit the ground and use gust." Falkner's bird enters a dive.

> Use the wind from the Whirlwind to speed yourself up.

> Flint does this and manages to get a light blow in as Pidgeotto dives. Falkner's bird reaches the ground, looks up, and blasts Flint with a whirlwind-amplified gust. Using the wind for speed seems to have backfired, as Flint loses all control at a speed faster than it could normally reach and slams a wall head on. There's no way Flint is getting up from that, so you return your bird to it's ball.

> The gust seems to have broken the whirlwind. You know that Lighter is the only pokemon you have left, and you plan to slip him a spell card, but you need to decide which attack you want him to use. You note that the Pidgeotto seems to need to anchor itself to launch gusts, at least if there's a whirlwind on the battlefield.

> You have the option to sneak a spell card, but you think you are against taking it. You need to decide whether you want Lighter attacking from the moment you let it out or if you want to use a "wait and see" approach. You know Lighter can launch fire at a distance and uses scratches at close range.

> You decide against using the spellcard. You call Lighter forward.

> "Lighter, use Ember!"

> "Pidgeotto, use gust!"

> One of your fireballs connects; the Pidgeotto blows the rest back with gust. Lighter loses his footing, and ends up getting knocked over by the winds, taking some damage in the process.

> "Pidgeotto, use Whirlwind, then Roost!"

> The Pidgeotto creates another Whirlwind in the stadium, then sits still on the stadium floor and catches it's breath. You aren't sure exactly how "roost" works, but that whirlwind will throw off the accuracy of your projectile fire attacks.

> Falkner's composure is shatered, "Yo, Pidgeotto, this kid thinks she got some moves. I got some news for you-"

>"Lighter, try to close into melee range and use Scratch!"

> "-Hey listen to me kid, yo ain't the first firebreather this gym has seen, and yo ain't gonna be the last. Show her our moves, Pidgeotto!"

> Your scratch connects, and the leader's stocism is shattered. Pidgeotto goes into the air and launches another whirlwind, adding a double-somersault to the attack. The leader seems more intent on showing off than on battling.

> "Yo Pidgeotto, use gust again, but do it in style!" It dives quite a bit slower than last time, due to the spins and somersaults it's adding to the dive.

> Lighter is directly under Pidgeotto's feet, and it is going to soon be in point-blank range. However, you are not confident you want Lighter to be right in front of it's drill maneuver. It looks like a more powerful version of the triple corkscrew his pidgey attempted.

> You are confident that you cannot register yourself as a pokemon. However, you wouldn't be surprised if trainers could get directly involved in these fights, you think you should ask someone about it.

>Which way is the in-arena wind blowing?

> The arena wind is a spiraling vortext, but Pidgeotto is creating a whirlwind to accelerate, so the wind is kind of blowing towards Pidgeotto from where Lighter stands.

>If it is blowing towards the Pidgeotto, then in theory the wind should boost our fire attack. Unless an ignore order is given against, Light that [censored] on FIRE.

Agreed

> Lighter does what it does best; lights that [censored] on fire. This leads to a spinning flaming vortex of doom that hits your Charmander and the ground head on. Fortunately, Lighter manages to get up out of the burning crater Pidgeotto just now made, whereas the bird only twitches twitching. The gym leader is having trouble speaking.

> "Yo, uh, well," Falkner begins. After a minute of this, he calls his Pidgeotto back. "Yo, trainer. Ain't gonna lie, you beat me. Here's yo Zephyr badge and yo prize money!"

> You receive 5000 P! You now have 22,600 P. "Also, have this, on me. It's TM 51, roost. It lets yo flying types take a break to heal themselves, fo-sho. Last thing yo, yo ain't half bad. If you ever want me to teach those flying types how to make whirlwinds, drop 'em off here. I'll teach them for just 5000 P, k?"

> You thank the boy for the badge, but you don't stick around very long. You need to rush to the pokemon center; Flint was pretty badly injured in the battle. You meet the nurse in the reception area and hand her your pokemon.

> "The leader is polite?" you ask the nurse, reflecting on your previous conversation.

> "Well, he can be when he tries. He tried to go all gansta on yo ass, didn't he?" The nurse sighs. "He tends to fall back on that bad boy attitude when riled. He can be more polite, when he bothers trying..."

> "...And my pokemon?"

> "Spearow will have to stay overnight, but your Charmander is good to go. Considering they aren't both down, I take it you won?" The nurse asks. You nod. "Then congradulations!" The nurse says, handing back Charmander. You walk away from the reception desk, and notice that Patchouli has awoken from her nap.

> The librarian yawns. "Looks like you had some fun during. Hope it went well. As for me, I'm going ghost hunting." She dons her bag and is about to leave the center. "Are you coming?"

> Go keep Patchy company. We don't want her getting scared and dying because of it or something.

> To be fair, you don't think Dash gets hurt by fire attacks at all, whether they come from a legend or not. You don't think Patchouli is one to have a panic attack, but she is likely to have an asthma attack if she starts climbing too many stairs.

> You decide to accompany Patchouli with just Lighter.

> You leave the pokemon center, and quickly arrive at an old tower along the northern outskirts of town. You enter the building. Everything about this place seems aged. The floorboards tremble when you step on them, the walls are either cracked or molding, and the the central pillar is swaying back and forth much to hard for your tastes (any swaying is swaying much too hard when it comes to central support pillars). Oddly the floor seems designed to give a little leeway to the pillar, and this swaying doesn't seem to bother Patchouli. She seems to think it's safe, so you follow her upstairs.

>In any case, tell Patch:
>>"That reminds me. Have you got any badges yet?"

Consider finding one of these things. And naming it Myon.

If it's a ghost, we might not be able to hit it with anything. Perhaps we could ask Patchy about this? (Assuming we don't already know?)

Oh, that reminds me, check what the little Pokedex says about this thing.

I doubt Patchy would do anything harmful to Myon. We probably don't have to worry.

Should we try to weaken the ghost first? I mean, it already seems to like us. That might not even be necessary. Perhaps we should just throw a ball at it - or, hell, just carry it around with us.
