Oh hi, I didn't see you there. I was just working on this vacuum cleaner. But as long as you're here, let me show you something I made, just for you fine people at MotK. Introducing ... The Touhou Challenge Randomizer

Think of it as just a way to mix things up a bit. This is just for the shootan games - I might make something like this for the camera and fighting games later on. Feel free to factor out certain variables, but remember: first roll = best roll, always.
     
    1. 1d2: PC-98 or Windows.
     
    2. If PC-98: 1d4.
    1=Story of Eastern Wonderland.
    2=Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream.
    3=Lotus Land Story.
    4=Mystic Square.
   
    If Windows: 1d9.
    1=Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
    2=Perfect Cherry Blossom.
    3=Imperishable Night.
    4=Phantasmagoria of Flower View.
    5=Mountain of Faith.
    6=Subterranean Animism.
    7=Undefined Fantastic Object.
    8=Great Fairy Wars.
    9=Ten Desires.
     
    3. 1d6: Difficulty.
    1=Easy.
    2=Normal.
    3=Hard.
    4=Lunatic.
    5=Extra.
    6=Phantasm (if not playing PCB, roll again).
     
    4.  1d8: Wildcards (Kappa Mode: Roll twice, use both wildcards. Tengu Mode: Three wildcards. Oni Mode: Four wildcards).
    1=No focus. If PC-98, roll again.
    2=No bombs.
    3=No vertical.
    4=Only the left side of the screen.
    5=No shooting.
    6=Ask the thread which player, first reply is your player.
    7=Top-half only.
    8=90FPS or Ultra (If you can't run/don't have 90FPS or Ultra, roll again. If you have both, 1d2).

    In the event of conflicting wildcards (e.g., top-half only and no vertical), roll one of the conflicting wildcards again.
     
    Any player (with exception of rolling a 6).
     
    If you do want to randomize what players you use, you can use the dice link with however many players your game has after 'sides='.
     
    Have fun, and post results. We kappa do this sorta thing all the time!

KAPPTASTIC UPDATE! Good ol' ihavenoname has created an .exe based on this generator - it's pretty neat, you should check it out. He's working on it some more, so let's hope for some updates! UPDATE: Now updated pretty much everything but the ability to exclude wildcards, but what fun would that be anyway? Version 3.01 is out! Enjoy!

Wow this is cool. I just rolled Fairy Wars, Easy, no bombs, no vertical. I suppose I'll do it, even if it may be very easy. I was lucky I guess; you could get some nasty challenges out of this.

EDIT: Well that was ridiculous. Here's the replay for the heck of it. I chose path A-1. Cleared easily enough, but that elfin canopy spell could have theoretically done me in completely if I was unlucky. I accidentally bombed becuase the GFW button layout is weird, but I killed myself right after as punishment. I really want to see what other people get.

Also, I notice extra stages aren't available. I don't know if they were left out on purpose or not.

What is only the left side of the screen exactly? Do you have to hug the left side or is the right half of the screen considered out off bounds?

Here are my results playing by the easy interpretation. I'm bummed over not even reaching stage 3. It would have been a win if I could reach Nitori.

Left side of the screen means you only play on the left side of the screen; the right half is out of bounds.

I don't see the problem with Medicine since you won't be sending any EX attacks (unless you want to do a pacifist run using bombs)

I'll be watching all of your replays, incidentally, and offering feedback. Not as a shmups player or a Touhou player, but as a fan of watching challenges.

And I thought that I was done with no focus in this game, argh.  :V   Kinda lost my motivation lately with all the switching of my controls so this might help me get back on track. And I needed it, I just suck right now.

15 minutes in stage one PoFV. Eventual game over. I like how the AI mocks you by ramming onto a fariy the instant you get hit, but it never finishes itself off. I didn't save the replay.

I reroll for something possible and it spits PoFV Hard pacifist at me!
