>Well, now. THAT might have done it.
>Do we know the approximate value of high grade orichalcum, especially in this small a quantity?

>Orichalcum could certain ping your senses, especially from among so much junk.
>Orichalcum is quite valuable, as accessible deposits are generally very rare and it is an essential material in airship engineering, among other things. In fact, one of the reasons for Braston's economic importance is the richness of its deposits of this and other scarce metals. However, in this case, you don't really know quite how little you're dealing with. The part's external size would suggest it couldn't be too much, but even that would surely have to be worth something.

>"They're not that old," she says. "I've run with older that I'd still lay money on 10 times outta 10. They're just lousy, is all."
>She flips the regulator around and sizes it up. "Ten to fifteen grams, maybe? And yeah, if it's still intact, it'd be worth a little."
>You may have heard the term used, but your knowledge of airship engines is superficial at best.

>About how much is 10-15 grams of orichalcum worth?

>That would depend on the purity and possibly a few other factors, but you'd expect it could have a market value of at least 100 guilders.

>That's a nice round figure. Might make even more in Val R, depending on the market.
>What else is ohrihalcum generally used in in this quantity?

>You imagine you could find buyers there, though it might command a higher price in another nation. Since the export tariffs Val Razua imposed on shipments passing through their airspace a couple years back, you hear there may be something of a shortage looming outside of Val Razua itself.
>Outside of airship engines, you believe orichalcum has some applications in enchanting, as a conductor or focus of magical energies, but you aren't sufficiently familiar with either engineering or spellcraft to know much could be done with only a few grams. It's also highly resistant to corrosion, heat, and dissolution, but large-scale use of it for these benefits alone is cost-prohibitive.

>"Don't get your hopes too high, kid," she says. "Once this stuff is catalyzed, it's hard to reforge; not gonna be able to salvage all of it. Unless you find someone who wants the whole intact filter, I guess. But hey, if you do, they're probably a chump anyway, so I guess that works out for ya, hey?" She grins.
>She certainly doesn't seem guarded or suspicious around you, at least.

>She paid you 49 guilders (the antique coin would have made it an even 50) and a Fuwafuwa Heart Droplet... whatever that is.

>Does everything with emphasis, don't she.
>Head up on deck.

>She certainly doesn't seem to have much subtly around her, at any rate.
>You leave the galley and head back up to deck. The atmosphere here is a lot more peaceful than the last time you set foot topside; the sky is clear and sun bright, and the movement of the ship creates a calming breeze. It's a little on the chilly side, but not enough to be off-putting. The aether stream is reduced to a subtle iridescence now, visible only every now and again. On the other hand, the sky itself is not so empty; you can see several small islets, some barely more than floating boulders, scattered sparsely across the horizon. It doesn't look like any are particularly close to your flight path, but the points of rocky brown and verdant green help break up the featureless sea of blue that envelops you.
>Miyuki is standing near the starboard rail, gazing out across the sky with a serene expression on her face. Further down the deck, you see Murasa reclining casually, one leg cocked over the railing of the wheelhouse steps.

>Walk to the rail and drink in the sights.

>It's hardly that bright out. It's rather pleasant, in fact.
>Those bedapults could well doom you all....
>You walk over to the railing and watch the islets drift slowly by in the distance, their position shifting across one another as closer ones eclipse those in the far distance. You think you can see a bird circling above one of the nearer ones, a tiny speck upon the blue.
>"It's a lovely day, isn't it?" Miyuki says.
