>Are we at all self-conscious about our lack of stuff worth stealing?

>It depends. Generally no, but there are some people you wouldn't want to admit this to, and some situations where you hate to admit it. Generally you hate doing it when it would invoke pity; you don't need pity.

>She nods and says, "Stay safe."
>You leave and head eastward toward the warehouses.
>Past Bridge Street, the other buildings quickly give way to large wooden warehouses. The traffic dies down considerably, what few oni you see are involved in carrying goods to or from a warehouse. You also see a couple oni pacing around a few of them, which is a relatively new thing in this city. Until the surface and the underground began having regular contact, the oni never really felt a need for guards. In fact, looking around, you are quite certain that many of these warehouses are ancient, and you don't see any real signs of scuffles or the like here. Simply put, the oni don't mess around here. Too many things important to the city are tied up in these warehouses. You think the closest that has happened to that is what made the Slags, where the evil spirits stay now. Looking around, things seem to be pretty orderly at the moment.  No one seems to have noticed you just yet.

>You look around, and find two possibly targets. One is an oni carrying a sack over her shoulder; she doesn't seem to be particularly burdened or in a hurry. Another is an oni pacing around a warehouse, looking rather bored.
>You seem to tread the line of approval there, and you've never wanted to push it any further, which is why you never helped yourself to these warehouses when they were unguarded, or to any of the unlocked doors. You know suicide when you see it.

>You approach the oni with the sack, trying to approach her so that she sees you coming.
>She definitely notices you, and watches you as you close the distance between the two of you. "Whaddaya want, kid?" she says.

>Fly off over to the other free oni we noticed earlier.

>"Sure, no problem," says the oni as she keeps walking.
>You make your way over to the other oni, who is currently leaning against the side of a warehouse with her arms crossed. She is close to the size of an average human, with a round face and long brown hair. Her horns are near the of her head, curving downward toward her eyebrows. She gives you a look as you approach. "Yeah, what?" she says.

>"Heh," says the oni, smirking a bit. "Yeah, I saw 'im. Built like a mongoose. 'E was lookin' around, keepin' out of people's way. Wasn't sure if he was a gawker or plannin' something. Last I saw. he wandered off that way."
>She jerks a thumb eastward, further into the warehouse district.
>"'Eard someone yell at a humie to sod off a while ago, and I figure it was at him. Someone's gonna make a nice pet out of him before the day's out."

> "Did he mention what he was doing around here?"

>"Didn't say a word to anyone that I saw."

>Head in the indicated direction

>"No worries," says the oni, as you depart.
>You make your way eastward. The warehouses are not really laid out in any pattern, and it soon becomes difficult to continue east without having to go around one. You can see oni at work here and there, or taking a break, while others are keeping an eye on things. You note that many seem to be watching you in a manner than makes you uncomfortable.
>Is there anything in particular you are looking for?

>You have a nervous gulp, and do your best not to look like you're up to something.
>You find an small oni with tiny horns on her forehead and wearing a frilly red dress and matching headband, sitting on top of a crate and drinking from a clay jug. "Y' want something, Buckets?" she says as you approach.
