I don't like cock-eyed aiming against bosses because it can also screw you over. You'll think you're directly below a boss when you're not and something will hit you that normally wouldn't.

I haven't even tried a good deal of the shot types. Out of those I have, SA MarisaA. Seriously, the way her focused and unfocused shots are organized makes no sense to me. Honorable mention to TD Youmu for being a bit too gimmicky at its core. I just cannot use it, especially since I'm still too used to the GFW charging speed (TD Youmu's is longer, and it keeps messing me up greatly).

I have a tie with TD Youmu and Marine Benefit's Sanae Sun shot. Youmu I can understand, in theory, but I'm just not as good with it as the other types. But Sanae... seriously? You might as well just not watch the screen while you play.

Huh, those doesn't count? Then I'll probably pick MarisaA from SA because of linear shot while moving unfocused and spread shot while being focused. It's pretty much the opposite of what you'd expect and what makes sense so I don't like them for that. Double that by having any Marisa shot in SA hating me with a fiery passion because of the game's fixation on tight gaps in almost all the attacks. Add to that a terribly unimpressive bomb and we've got a problem, though cool bombs were never quite Touhou's thing.

I also don't like Ghost Team, Magic Team or Scarlet Team but that's not because they necessarily suck. That's just because they are like SA!MarisaA, too weak or too bad at adapting to unexpected situations. :V Oh and MarisaA from MoF sucks too.

It actually does, kinda.

Unfocused you're just devastating about everything up front. Just get close to any boss with full power and unleash all you've got, you'll deplete the bosses' health in no time. Focused you get to cover a huge range (entire screen with full power) - which comes very handy in levels - but the drawback is that at bosses you'll have to suck it. Even with full power you can damage most bosses rather well if you unfocus a lot from the bottom of the screen; which isn't very easy if a lot is going on though.

Were you to invert the shots, you'd get a very overpowered shottype raping about everything that comes your way. So you gotta balance it out a bit. Now with eight bombs stocked at once, you have quite the chances to avoid dying - if you're good at the stage portions, then you have the perfect insurance.

As for the worst shottype, I'd go with TD Sanae. I see absolutely nothing in her that stands out in particular. TD Youmu on the contrary is great and fun to use because of her unique ability and destructive power if you're an aggressive player. Honorable mentions go to SA ReimuB and C for having terrible shottypes (I can't for the life of me use those); actually anything that isn't ReimuAccumulateExtraShotsAllShootingStraightUp or MarisaLasers are terrible in my eyes. SanaeB in UFO is a rather neat type too, but for actual boss fights she really has to step her game up with the low damage she's doing.

I have tried all the shottypes, and IN Sakuya solo is by far the worst. No damage, no good amount of time orbs, not even a decent spreadshot.

Alice's shot is pretty bad too, but at least makes some damage if you are exactly under the bosses.
SA MarisaA because the inverted shots fuck me up everytime.
And TD Sanae because booooooring.

I'm fine with every other shot type, but those four...

Youmu's shot types are pretty strange, but not necessarily bad.

Unfocused MarisaA at full Power is slightly weaker than ReimuA on average, because let's face it, times when you'd be able to get the outer two streams to hit for any appreciable amount of time are extremely rare.

The last sentence of your first paragraph is kind of making my argument for me. This isn't as much of a problem on lower difficulties, but on modes like Lunatic there's always a lot going on. Lunatic in particular has the most consistently dense danmaku in the series - in fact it's dense enough that it makes Marisa and her larger hitbox remarkably close to unusable (at least, more so than in other games, since it's obviously still possible to clear the game with her; point is that it this combination makes things significantly harder than they need to be).

MarisaA's bombs only last half the time of almost everyone else's bombs, so in terms of invincibility time you need to use 2 bombs to match those of others. Problem is, the way the Power items are revalued, it's actually harder to regain the equivalent number of bombs stated above - she has twice the Power capacity, but small Power items are not twice as valuable as before (they're only 66% larger), and large ones don't change at all IIRC.

Well, you're right that she's rather useless on higher modes (at least for me - though on Hard she can still be killer if you can use her properly) but then again, any Touhou on Lunatic would be a chore with her due to the nature of her larger hitbox. If you practice enough with her, you can get some nice replays; she just plays very differently from Reimu and you gotta think of a different route for the stages. Especially stage 3, 4 and 5 can be trivialized with her strong shot.

This is nowhere near as good as I can do with Reimu, but that is due to the fact that Marisa's hitbox throws me off easily. After being used to Reimu so much, you're counting in forgivable hitboxes which unfortunately isn't quite the case with Mahou-chan. That and the fact that I barely use her. And no, I'm not looking for excuses here. ^^;

It comes down to playstyle. I'm sure there are people out there who have practiced so much with her that they could beat Lunatic on a whim. You gotta weigh your options and act accordingly.

Favorite Extra Boss: Mokou

Least Favorite Shot-type: IN Sakuya. If only because of how much she drags down my favorite shot-type, Remilia. A team of something like Marisa and Remilia would be incredible, though of course it wouldn't make much sense.

This is a weird question since most people don't play with the shottypes they consider bad so they can't tell which one is the worst.

I've determined my hated shot types and only one is from before.

#2: UFO MarisaB because it's somehow weaker than PCB ReimuA.

#1: TD Youmu because in shmups you shoot, not slash like an idiot that brings a knife to a gun fight.

I kind of hate everything with Iku in it, though 6-7 is the only one I can think of that doesn't seem to invlove any input from the player at all, so I'll go with that one.

- Especially 10-4 is yummy and delicious.

Well, my heart was put on the verge of bursting with anger and irritation and far worse; tedium, when that little Koishi started with that 9-4 and kept at it until I finally beat it 997 shots later. Some people apparently got this one real quick but for some reason Koishi had it in for me big time and kept killing me at the final shot.

I've played through this game three times and once clearing as much as I could/felt like on Ultra and every time, i skipped 9-4 because it sucks!

There's also the one with Yuugi firing that thick stream of bullets in a stream that you can only survive if you shoot at the exact right moment. Idk, the game has some scenes that really blow but these two stand out the most.

Favorite Ex-theme - SoEW. SA, UFO, and FW are all great too, but I really love that PC98 music.
Favorite S6 boss - Kanako. Byakuren's cool too, but Kanako isn't nearly as irritating.
Favorite Ex-boss - Probably Alice, since she's less memotrash than most other Ex bosses. Gengetsu's pretty cool too though.
Least favorite shot type - TD Youmu. That focus sword charge thing is really dumb. It was incredibly disappointing, since I was really looking forward to playing with Youmu again

Least favorite DS scene - All of them. I don't really like the photo games.
