Never played MoF, but I like how VoWG looks. Same with Flying Fantastica/Legendary Flying Saucer.
I really like facing and watching Scarlet Gensokyo, though. The lines of bullets remind me of Remilia's fate-manipulation and I love the randomness of the thing. I hate memorisation >.>

This is quite a hard one. Non-spells hardly ever stand out for me unless they are really difficult but said non-spells aren't necessarily very fun....

I think I'll have to go with Yoshika. There are of course things like Murasa's 3rd, Orin's 3rd and Byakuren's 2nd that are just awesome but they're all late-game bosses so you kinda expect them to be hard. Yoshika on the other hand is just a Stage 3 boss which usually translates into pathetic non-spells with a chance for some competent spellcards provided that the game is either PCB or UFO. Yoshika's Kunai attacks shatter that trend though. They are all pretty awesome but the final one is probably my favorite.

I'm looking forward to see what other picks people have for this question. It required quite a bit more thought from me than most of these questions. :V

Well, I like several nonspells. Remilia's opener from EoSD is nifty, I always liked it, and most of Remilia anyway. But I don't know if it should be taking the #1 spot. At least the #1 spot from EoSD, let's say.
PCB has quite a bit of cool noncards. Namely everything Yuyuko has, sans maybe the streaming ones, which look nifty, while are a bit boring. I always hated Merlin's opener, but it looks cool, I have to admit that. And then we have Yukari and her kunai. How sexy, sexy kunai they are. Oh yes, I like those kunai. Especially the ones that include some dodging, not only streaming. But the streaming ones look cool as well!
IN has some nifty stuff, Reimu and Marisa's nonspells were made rather well in my opinion, suiting the charachters in style. Mokou has... fun to dodge noncards, and then some really brutal noncards. But I always liked dodging amulets, no idea why, but yeah.
MoF... I don't really know, I don't play it enough. :V
SA could be the same, but at least Utsuho has some cool-looking shit. And maybe Orin & Koishi fall into the nifty looking patterns as well.
UFO was made with a blargh. I never liked Nazrin's, nor Kogasa's nonspells. I've learned to gehh at Ichirin's noncards, when scoring, and Murasa's raindrops never were made for me. Shou's lasers can GTFO like just now. Byakuren has couple of nice ones, but also has a couple of patterned and too easy noncards. Nue was.... I don't know, weird? She has a lot of different bullet style-noncards, and I never liked most of them.
And then we have TD. I had to think a while, but I remember ultra-Mamizou's noncards being HAHAHAHANOPE. Probably nothing from TD. The game was not my thing that much, so I haven't played it enough to tell if some of the nonspells are interesting or not.


And so, I ended up picking some favorites from every game. Or not every, but yeah. I can't really decide here, too many cool noncards to go for.

Good question. Kind of fun how "worst nonspells" is a much easier question to answer. :V

Contenders are Remilia's opener (as cliphappy as it is), midboss Alice #2 with the fast blue/green/yellow/red arrows, Yukari's blue/green kunai nonspell, Sanae's opener, Kanako's opener, Koishi's second, Byakuren's third, Nue's third aaaaand that's it.

Winner is... uh, I'm not sure. :ohdear:

That game has a lot of awesome non-spells too. Sunny has some really awesome ones that spring to mind.

Both of IN boss Marisa's nonspells are fun. I suck at her midboss nonspells, not sure why.

Honourable mention to Ichirin, and Kogasa because they give you a break from her terrifying spell cards. >_>

Man, this is tougher than I thought it would be, even after thinking it through. I don't think there's one that really stands out at all, so I'm forced to give a few contenders, namely Reisen's second, boss-Orin's third, and boss-Ichirin's second. I'd include any one of Yoshika's nonspells here if they weren't so freakin' short.

Favorite final attack: Scarlet Gensokyo (sue me, I haven't played MoF). I just like the ridiculous difficulty of it, and it just feels so intense compared to stuff like Yuyuko's. Plus I like the name.

Favorite non-spell: This is pretty hard, but I LOVE Sakuya's first and second one. I like attacks where you have to move quickly to avoid getting walled. Remilia and Kaguya openers are also pretty good.

Sakuya's second, Mokou's final, Sanae's first, Orin's second midboss appearence, Shou's first. Seiga's third was spectacular at 90fps, as well as some other things, but I don't count them because that's not the way they normally are.

I'll go with Orin's thing in the middle of stage 4. This was tough to answer.

Mine is a three-way tie between Midboss Eirin's nonspell (either path really), Yuyuko's knives 'n bubbles, and Patchouli's Non-Directional Lasers (yeah, they're easy, but they're also epic for such an early game).

What is your favorite stage portion?

For me, it'd have to be the stage part of GFW extra.  It's fun, challenging but the edge can be taken off of everything with some strategy.

Not counting spinoffs, I'd have to go with UFO Stage 4-because the patterns are actually fun, not because of the UFO system (which I still dislike)

Welp. Maybe MoF stage 5. It has a lot of various fun dodging, and nice midboss, but nothing that frustrating like stage 4 or SA stage 5 for example.

Oddly, my favorite stage portion is probably PCB Stage 3 right after the Alice midboss that drops an extra life because you get that Extend and then a point item-based Extend in quick succession.  Sometimes, if you time it right, you can get them almost at the exact same time, so the Extend sound effect overlaps itself and sounds weird.  I dunno, it's just amusing to me.  Also, killing all those fairies afterwards and collecting tons of points at the POC feels good as you watch your score shoot up.

I'll ignore midbosses, since otherwise I think I'd just end up choosing the stage with the best midboss. :V

EoSD stage 5 is good. Assuming you don't abuse the crap out of it, it's all pretty fun dodging. The whole stage is pretty much a watered down Peerless Wind God. I also like MoF stage 4 for similar reasons, though there's a lot of pointless streaming which kind of detracts from it. And then MoF stage 3 is good too...

Tough call, but I'll go with MoF stage 3. Good all around, with no weak points and some interesting danmaku.

SA Stage 5, hands down. Contains some really hard yet fun attacks, along with an interesting theme. Honorable mention to SA Stage 4, while most of it can be memorized, it also has a kickass theme and great visuals.

UFO Extra.

Mainly because it's easier than it looks :getdown:

Other than that, I'd probably say PCB Stage 5. It's a nice blend of easy (Red circle bullet fairies) and hard (Streamed bursts among red arrowheads) and also comes with an excellent border max cherry graze milk session at the end.

UFO Stage 4. It is probably the hardest stage in which the bullets are moving at a reasonable pace. Most other challenging stages are either too slow to be interesting (SA Stage 5 for example) or not really that hard once you've gotten the approach down (SA Stage 4) but this one's different. It actually feels like I'm doing something for quite a lot of it. It's not perfect but at least there aren't any of those painful waiting sections.

MoF Stage 4 is also a candidate for my favorite but that's mainly because of the thing after Momiji because it is so fucking cool when you dodge it right.
