Backstory:
Yumiko was born in the human village, on the 31st of December, 141. Her early life was fairly quiet; for the first few years she found it difficult to be around the other children, if only because her red eyes set her apart so much.
In the late summer of 147, she was finally allowed to attend school. She took to reading almost immediately, and found herself able to recall any detail she wished from her books; or anything she'd seen, ever. At the time she didn't think much of it; though at times she wondered why, sometimes, very few people could remember the answer to the questions asked. Her first year of schooling otherwise went by mostly uneventfully; she was rather proud of how well she'd done and looked forward to her next year.
Unfortunately, she'd have to manage things herself for that next year. Late in the summer of 148, she woke up to a quiet house. Her mother hadn't woken her up for breakfast, and it was well past time for it. She got up out of bed, and went downstairs to see them; but when she got to the dining room they weren't there. The kitchen was empty. Their bedroom upstairs was empty. So she sat down in the living room, waiting for the door to open and her parents to come back.
They never did.
She went to school herself that year, doing all the things her parents used to do. She'd make sure she got up on time, cooked for herself, ensured the house was at least mostly tidy, and so forth. She never mentioned her parents' disappearance, to anyone. She started to see the schoolteacher more often, having to get her own food and other such things, but their interaction was limited mostly to a brief hello.
Another year passed, and in the late summer of 149 she noticed she was talking to the schoolteacher more and more. It was less of a passing ?Hello?, and more and more of a conversation between friends. She attended school again like usual, though things were starting to get different. By then she'd realized her ability to recall anything she'd seen or read wasn't normal; she looked for more and more books to read, taking to them like a sponge to water. She knew her eyes were much different than they should be, as well, and kept to herself as time went on.
After her third year of school, things progressed well between her and Keine; If asked, she would admit to considering them friends, though she still had not mentioned her parents. Summer passed more or less uneventfully, and she began her fourth year, as she had the past three times now. It went on as normal, until late fall that year.
She woke up one morning to discover she was feeling rather cold; Cold enough it was kind of warm, as odd as that sounded. She pulled the blanket up to her neck and laid there for a while; It was fall, it was supposed to be cold. And so she simply rested under the blanket for a time.
A while passed, and she wasn't feeling any less cold. So she pushed the blanket off of herself, swung her legs over the edge of the bed, and got up, only to nearly collapse on the floor then and there. She barely managed to stay standing, leaning against the wall to get her bearings. She took a dizzy step towards the door, before rushing over to the wall beside it; and regretted doing so almost immediately as the world spun. After a painfully long time, she managed to get downstairs to the kitchen, making herself a light meal, before returning to bed and falling back asleep.
When she woke up it was already tomorrow morning, which upset her. Even worse, she didn't feel any better than she did yesterday; In fact, she probably felt worse. She tried, and failed, to even get out of bed. Instead she simply went back to sleep, ignoring the hunger. It was fairly definite she wasn't going to be getting any better any time soon.
The next day she woke up particularly late, well in the afternoon, due to a loud banging on the door. She wanted to get up to answer it, but knew just as well she couldn't.
BANG, BANG, BANG.
A pause.
?Alright, fine, if you're not going to open it...!?
There was a loud ? -sound-, of some sort, she couldn't really make it out clearly. Then heavy footsteps. A frustrated groan. More footsteps, this time up the stairs. A door opening, then closing. Another door. Then the footsteps reached her door, which was pushed open in short order to reveal someone really not expected.
?Where have you been all this time?!?
Well, she sounded a little angry. There was worry in her voice as well, though. Yumiko coughed and pushed herself upright, with a good amount of effort.
?Afternoon, Miss Keine. Sorry to cause you any worry.? Her own voice sounded weak, even to herself.
?Jeez, a situation like this and you still manage to be so polite... What's wrong with you??
After a little bit of having to calm her down some, she explained how she'd gotten sick a couple days ago, how at first she could get up and around alright, but how yesterday she couldn't even get out of bed. She managed to convince Keine to get her something to eat, which she held down particularly well for someone who hadn't eaten in two days.
?Where are your parents at??
Of course, she'd managed to notice that. So she explained about that as well, a little reluctantly, and was then on the receiving end of some scolding on how she should've said something before now.
After she'd gotten over her illness, which, granted, wasn't quickly, she returned to school as normal and generally deflected any questions about her absence. For a brief period of time it was the subject of much inquiry, but after a day or two everyone had more or less forgotten it'd happened.
She'd started spending more and more time with Keine, after that, and she admitted to herself that it'd gone beyond simply being friends. She was always able to go to her for help, she was always able to count on her to be looking out for her; In a way, it was like having a parent again.
The years went by slowly, simply, quietly. Eventually she'd learned what there was to learn at the school, and looked to her books for more. And she was still, constantly conscious that she was much different from everyone else there at the village; except Keine. After she'd exhausted her own books, her curiosity was still unsated. She searched for a place she could learn even more, and found such a place when she learned of the library in the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Despite what she'd been told, and what she'd read, it was a chance to learn; and, indeed, a chance to get away from all of the people here at the village who couldn't help but see her as completely different from themselves.
And so, she packed away what she wanted to keep with her, and left.
Weapon: Her main weapon is a pair of solid throwing disc, which can be razor-edged or blunt as desired; the way she throws them determines whether or not the edge's cover is retracted to expose the blade, and can also determine it's flight and return path. They can also be used as a melee weapon if necessary, though she prefers to use them at range.
Other: ... I actually don't know what to put here.
(There I posted it are you happy now)
