I figured I'd give it one more go and by some miracle I nailed it. Over 500 tries yes, but in my defense I was sleep deprived when I did this, and about 100 of those were from a while ago. :blush:

I believe that's the game reaching a sort of "bullet limit", where only a certain number of bullets can be on screen at once. I don't know for sure.

Even better, he could fix it first. And get rid of the glaring bad design.

Speaking of SFN, I have this one goal lingering at the back of my head which is this: once I get IN, work towards a no-focus timeout of the card with Youmu.

I've given this a couple of shots, (a couple of being around 200, and do belive me, that's a little amount with that card for me) but actually micrododgin' this card with Youmu solo's insane speed makes the portions after 60sec really flawless shit. It's doable, yes. But it's far beyond my limits, even tho' I have some experience with IN and Youmu solo's nofocus playing.

So yeah. I can give it a few more tries and try to actually get past 40sec, but, uhh.. I can't promise I'll make it, since I'm not even near to the level of the sick pro's around here.

Gave it 50 tries at school.

This is my best so far, around 30 deaths to first two waves.

Stage 1: Everything went according to plan. I can usually tell it'll be a good run when I capture Hermit.
Stage 2: Went well, besides the derpy/boxed in deathbomb on Song of the Night Sparrow
Stage 3: I fail at Orb, as my result score shows. In realistic terms, this was a brilliant Keine run.
Stage 4: Best fight against Reimu ever. I did have a derpdeath on her 2nd non-spell, and -Spread- is BS as usual, and I failed Evil Sealing but I captured her 4th Spell for the first time ever, and almost timed out Blink...

Stage 5: Aside from the derpy death against the first bunny [I'm 50/50 on it's pattern] and being too slow to bomb against Tewi, this was an average Stage 5 for me. I've not figured out Reisen yet, although I almost captured Full Moon.

Stage 6: Ugk, how did I die twice to the mobs? If I hadn't derped like that, I might have made it. Still, for my first 1CC attempt at Stage 6, it could have gone worse. Captureing Game of Life was a sweetner for the bitter pill of failing the run.

It does show the capture rate of the score.dat of the user watching the replay, so I'd see my capture rate on it.  Keine's Last Spell is pretty easy on normal.

I decided to no focus pacifist some Stage 4's for some reason, ended up getting a perfect stage portion of UFO Stage 4 and a 1 death stage portion of SA Stage 4 (metal bullet wedged in the laser gap), and timed out Terrifying Hypnotism AND Flying Insect's Nest successfully.

and now I got 30 seconds of Aya's first sell successfully survived no focus, and also did TD Stage 4.  3 nonspells were NDNB, the other I messed around on.  Perfect timeout of the first boss card and almost got the midboss card and last one except derp.

I really thought I was screwed; I entered the 6th stage 2/3 and got to Remilia 2/2. Used both bombs on her opener. Die to her first spell. Cheese second nonspell by going above her. Bomb to her 3rd card. Bomb & death to her fourth. Use one bomb on her last nonspell, two to Scarlet Meister and...Scarlet Gensokyo capture. I like how that was the only card I captured in that stage.

Hmm, dunno where to post this, but does anyone know what determines whether Stage 6 Nue leaves a point item trail upon leaving the screen? It's nothing to do with capturing the pattern.

You have to be at full Power at some point during Nue's "exit" sequence in order to get the Point item drops. Ideally you'll want to enter the midboss at full, but if you're not you can also collect the Full Power item she drops and she will then start dropping Point items too.

I was just spontaneously clearing SA Normal when I realize I'm perfecting Utsuho around halfway through. And that means first-ever captures of the first, second AND fourth spellcard, along with no bombs on the non-spells. And of course, I had to derp it with a death on her final, which was my only miss, but this is a personal achievement nonetheless.

That's a really terrible attitude in general, I prefer friendly competition!

On a related note, UFO Stage 5 Lunatic unlocked for Practice, all that's left is adjusting my Stage 5 strategies for Lunatic. Fun run, UFO's played me like a fool on more than one occasion, though, + I let a total of two bombs go to waste by not picking them up.
Didn't make it to Byakuren, unfortunately, since I wanted to have a look at her opener to assess whether I'm likely to use a bomb or not, but I guess I'll find out when I'm seriously battling her.

Astronomical Entombing Timeout!

You fucking bastard.  Might well motivate me to go and do it. I did plan to simply not do it since, really, the first 40-50 seconds are so damn boring but I don't want to lose to you.

Eurgh, just for spell practice I use a fully unlocked score.dat my friend gave me from his copy of IN (making sure to keep my old one for afterwards) and while I do attempt the Lunatic spells, I just realised I have captured over 50% of them! Not having attempted Lunatic in story and gotten past mystia before dying completely, I was happy. Of course, that 1/50 to 1/300 capture is embarrassing.
Astronomical Entombing I did my own practice in my own file for Easy and Normal.
And I finally figure dout the trick to prevent being bullet swarmed~kill Eirin's familiars (I use Youmu/Yuyu or Reimu/Yukari mostly and Reimu seems to have more trouble with it). It seems it nets me those extra 4 seconds I need to kill her before being destroyed.

And as far as 1ccs go, while I still suck at Touhou really badly, I am finally able to effortlessly 1cc all IN scenarios on Easy, and Normal with Border team (haven't tried others so far).

-Easy 1cc all IN, Normal 1cc Reimu/Yukari
-Easy 1cc MoF, Reimu-Needle
-Easy 1cc SA, Reimu-A, Marisa-A
-Easy '1cc' EoSD, Marisa-A (pfft, this doesn't count)

If it weren't for my need to use Sakuya-B in PCB and hence fight Trolomerlin, I'd probably have this one too. As stated before I have a 10 D 1cc too but I cannot get it in Normal because I crash into fairies collecting scarce resources. The spells aren't even hard, but asdfghjkl!

A very good Nue run.

This was completely spontaneous, so the stage / UFO usage wasn't ideal. Other than that, I capture most of the spellcards. If I recall correctly, here are the faults:

*One semi-intentional bomb during the stage. One stupid death during the stage.
*One death on double rainbow UFOs. Guess I was getting cocky.
*THREE HORRIBLE DERPS on the survival card. I think I was... going... too fast? I honestly don't know. It's like business as usual and SUDDENLY, THREE DEATHS. And this is sad because I proceed to survive the latter part of the spell for the first time.
*Two bombs on the final card. I only wanted to get the clear at this point.

Dear god... if not for those derps, I mean, I capture ALL the cards before it minus bs rainbows. An accomplishment, but dang. :@

E: I bomb at Nue's "hard non-spell" too. Meh.

As for myself, as mentioned in the rage thread I actually managed to get Astronomical Entombing down to 7 seconds and that was a run that could very well have succeeded if I wasn't that damn exhausted at the time. I'm satisfied with this for now. I have to be. Grinding a spell in spell practice can get brutally repetitive. My final verdict on it is that SFN is a goddamn pushover in comparison. AE apparently just hits all of my weak spots at once. Its a fun spell but it wears me out because its timer is so long. I'll probably one day come back and get a real timeout. You can have this one for now Zil.

Yeah well, I have known that for years but that fact isn't worth anything to me. The bullets dictate where I can go, and they are random. Seemingly both in their trajectory and numbers.

In comparison to Astronomical Entombing, I'd say that Apollo 13 is outright trivial. We are talking about dodging from only one direction, there are tricks to simplify the dodging, there is a safe spot, the bullets are fewer and a lot slower. I can't think of any possible way this card could be harder than Astronomical Entombing.

Its of course a subjective matter. Different people have trouble with different things. However, with Apollo 13 I find that the difficulty comes from reading the pattern. Astronomical Entombing, from being at the right spot at the right time. And I always. Always. End up being right next to the familiars when they shoot their load. It never fails.

In any event, I agree with Zengeku about Astronomical Entombing being harder than SFN. It took me less tries, but I think my brain was just scrambled when I was doing SFN.

EDIT: I will say that the trick to AE seemed to be keeping Eirin in the middle, and going near the bottom of the screen as little as possible. In fact, it seemed sometimes like the waves got MORE dense as I tried to back away from them, so standing my ground in the center of the screen helped me avoid getting walled.

I thought so. Also, just timed it out in 15 attempts myself. I have some experience with it however but I still needed a few runs to get familiar with the pattern again.

Hmph, well, just goes to show that we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Apollo 13 shut down over two dozen perfect attempts that reached that far, and to this day I don't have a reliable way to handle the first wave (which is undoubtedly the hardest part of the card since there's no place where its barrage is lighter than the rest). the pattern itself is static, but where it's aimed is random, and unless I were to gain superhuman levels of perception, I can't figure out a way to discern where the easier parts of the pattern are. If you get stuck dodging on the thicker part of the pattern, you're pretty much screwed. On the other hand, Astronomical Entombing is pretty bland to me.  :wat:

on a whim, I decided to try to no bomb lunatic Stage 6 of MoF.
death to the popcorn fairy at the end because derp, 1 death to Kanako's opener when I have always always always bombed it (Kefit's no bomb lunatic 1cc dies twice there, although I got lucky), Capture everything from the first spell through the 3rd nonspell, die once to Yamato Torus (almost capture), ace the 4th nonspell, capture Source of Rains before dying 3 times to VoWG, but knocking off 2/3 of the health first.
