I have always judged everyone based on canon attributes, mainly because fanon material seems to get in the way and can vary so much that it make a lot of factors irrleavnet. But this match showed me how the fan base thinks now. And it's kinda scary.
I believe i judge mostly on cannon as well, but because i can't think of any cannon attributes about Sakuya that i find moe at all(except a few blunders possibly.) Koa wins on looks alone.

I'm surprised so many people are (a) voting on canon over fanon, and/or (b) not anticipating fanon will be a factor.

Two more cheaters busted.

A Brazilian dialup user did the delete cookies and refresh routine to stack three votes for Sakuya.
I deleted his votes, but this does not change the match outcome.

Another user double-voted for Sanae back in match 41. Sanae lost anyway.

Edit: More bad votes in match 48. I will have to re-run it.

I'd be surprised about Sakuya's victory, but it's pretty clear since a while that this is more a popularity contest than anything else.

Wut? This is surprising. Too many bad votes to redo the entire thing? Damn

Didn't think Sakuya fanboys would do this. Then again, I've noticed that they're starting to become a bit like Mima fanboys in terms of begging for her return and all.

It wasn't that there were too many, it's that the match turned out to be a tie when the cheated votes were deleted.
Simply restarting voting wouldn't be fair, because whoever figured out first would win.
Running the match longer than 24 hours is an issue because the vote cookies have an expiration of 24 hours.

Okay, yeah. The round needed to be done a second time, and now that it is, it's STILL tied up a second time with less than 4 hours to go. This round is SO much more interesting than anticipated.

Let's see....

Well the big 16 should be interesting....

Surprisingly a lot of good matches here:

The big ones I see here are:
Orin vs. Youmu
Kogasa vs. Utusho
Momiji vs. Mystia
Meiling vs. Patchouli

The rest seem one-sided.

And so ends Aya's chances at meaningful success. :<

lol Momiji vs. Mystia. A midboss character wth effectively no development is gonna get pretty damn far in this contest. Personally I'm wondering: will Kogasa steamroll Utsuho as I expect she will, or will something strange happen?

Don't worry Kilga, I'll be rootin' for her.

Also, Flan > Sakuya. No competition.

A midboss character wth effectively no development

That statement describes the vast majority of the field, so of course at least one of them is going to make it somewhere.

I think Yuyuko, Kogasa, and Alice are guaranteed to go to the next round. (Although Kogasa's up against Utsuho; the margin might be in the single digits.)
The rest of the matches are pretty interesting though. Particularly Flandre vs Sakuya and Meiling vs Patchouli. (I would have been even more interested in Sakuya vs Meiling, but that's too one-sided.)

Interesting contest and I'm glad I could participate in this.

However, do you think it is relevant to draw conclusion on popularity with that much voters ? The highest number of votes in a match is 223 until now. I'm pretty sure that a fairly higher number of people would be happy to vote too. Maybe the contest needs more advertising ?

It is surprisingly difficult to find the results from the other years, when you don't know where to look for, so I couldn't compare.

I think there has only been one other seimoe back in 2007 and Meiling won.

Why is Youmu afraid of Unzan?

I hope think people are selling Nitori short in no one yet listing her match against Remilia as ineresting. Don't forget that she hung a 94 on Keine and won her second round match with a notably larger percentage of votes than Remilia did while going up against a comparable character.

Fake edit: Unless people aren't listing that match because they think Nitori will blow Remilia out of the water (what is Remilia doing in water?), in which case I am all for such an attitude.

Fake edit 2: Meiling didn't win Seimoe 2007, she won the first Japanese popularity poll. I think Reimu won Seimoe 2007, though it might have been Yukari or Reisen.

Reimu won Seimoe 2007. I was still a nameless lurker at the time, and didn't vote because I was unfamiliar with the characters, but I still remember it.

Yeah I think Nitori will trash Remilia easily. Remilia's just had easy matches so far.

Maybe I should start campaigning for Hina...

I voted for Yuyu this time...
Now when this is closing to end (okay, there is still much to go) - here is my prediction for the winners of the next rounds:
Yuyuko, Orin, Nitori, Flandre, Kogasa, Momizi, Meiling and Hina (actually I believe that the last match might
be quite even).
