Got back into RE4 today. The HD version too. Or rather, the rehash version on the Xbox 360.

I have a few major complaints that I'll list for the no-lives/awesomefolks who actually reads my rambling.

1 - Controls are still hellabufuckusly shiity. Who the fuck figured aiming with the left stick was in any way a good idea? Capcom? Look at third person shooters as they are done today. Left stick for movement, right stick for aiming. Movement while aiming was lacking in RE5 as well (though the controls were better in that game) but at least it seems like its something they're finally implementing in Re6. Which better give Wesker a magical comeback that doesn't make sense at all.

2 - As with MGS, this is lazy porting with pretty much no changes whatsoever. Or I guess it means that you can play games in high def so yay for that. Still looks grey and old. And the achievements are lazy as fuck.

3 - Aiming feels awkward. Why do you need to have that annoying laser pointer aim? It makes aiming for the head needlessly complicated to do fast. Its not a sensible way to craft challenge. Its like, in real life you wouldn't have a crosshair but in real life you don't look over the bloody shoulder either!

---- But those complaints aside its still a fun game. Oh and this achievement is just awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNnq_Dh3iBo (Nice pro tip Cap)

PSP Disgaea doesn't have that song during the fight with
Spoiler:
Maderas
  I loved that song.
The song was "Invasion from Within" by Tsunami Bomb, in case you didn't know it. I missed that song in the PSP version too. Also Etna's voice. >=(

And why has it taken me until now to discover this thread?
Games I'm playing now: I just got through the Earthbound/Mother series, and I think it's become my favorite RPG series. Much more challenging than the usual deal, being one of the few games I've played that doesn't give you a broken healing spell right off the bat.

Finally got around to downloading Halo: Reach (it came from one of those holiday package things bundled with the system back at Christmas). I still have to get reused to the controls, which always seems to happen when I play one of these games, but I beat the first two levels on Heroic by now.

Finish my first playthrough of VVVVVV. Then I did a second playthrough with the Flip Mode.

I'm pretty terrible at the game.

Playing Elona after someone mentioned it. Went for a Fairy Pianist. It was a bit difficult at first, especially since it's so hard to find decent equipment, but I'm slowly managing. Currently just attempting to make money by doing the Port-Noyel trading runs, among other things. Still can't perform without a rock to the face annoying enough. My character can go in low leveled dungeons, though mostly because I have a quick thrower that winds up killing everything.

...Where's my game?

Finished the main story of Disgaea.  Feel proud of myself, I didn't accidentally kill any of my team mates like I did on my very first play through and got the good ending.  Now to play Etna mode.

Disgaea DS, right? Before you start Etna Mode, make sure to make a backup of your save file and use a new save file for Etna Mode. There was some bug in that mode that basically crashed the game. God, it's been so long that I can't remember what exactly it did. If I'm not mistaken, the game would freeze, and you couldn't progress. This isn't a guaranteed bug, as I managed to get through Etna Mode with no problem. It was a friend of mine that encountered the bug and couldn't play it at all.

Just be safe and don't save over your main file with the Etna game.

The PSP one.  Hope this one doesn't have a bug, cause I already saved in the same slot.

I used them when I played it. No way I would have grinded the amount needed to beat Uber Prinny Baal without that. The glitched items were so useful in cutting down the time.

They are specialists that improve the rate at which some things improve, most notably the armsmaster, who makes your weapon skill increase more quickly. Some items, (the "foresight" is one, I think) contain them at max power, so it's kinda cheating to use them. Contrary to what some may believe, it doesn't take much longer to collect them fairly. I beat the Uber Prinny and Item God 2 without any cheating, and it took only a few days of specialist collecting. Statistician, manager, and banker(?) are the other three. They increase experience gain, mana per kill, and money (hell, whatever) per battle, respectively. They cap at level 300 or 450 for the armsmaster (might want to double check that), so the level 99,000 ones that come from glitched items aren't as great as they seem. Plus the item world is fun and you get all the other great specialists while gathering those guys if you do it the way you're supposed to.

Huh. In all of my hours of playing Disgaea, I had never encountered specialists that had that high of ability level. From what I remember, the benefits from Statistician and Armsmaster cap off at 600, so it's pointless to keep obtaining them. Broker is pretty much useless, because by the time you really focus on grinding in the Item World in the post-game, you will be swimming in money.

Yeah, they're only in specific items. The foresight is one, and I think another is the tainted staff (odd coincidence given the name). It's sprite is invisible if you equip it, as I recall. It also makes your jump stat go to -100 or something, so you don't have enough jump to walk on level terrain. :V I think it's only in the PSP version though, so if you played it on the DS that's probably why you never saw them.

Has anybody played the Prinny games? The spin-off platformers in Disgaea.

Since I'm leaving the States for a fortnight soon, I succumbed to temptation and picked up Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Mario Strikers Charged. Is Death's "hold your ass down and slash you" attack supposed to be instant death? Because I survived one shot from it. Also, Crystal Cup appears to have a difficulty spike right when the KO rounds ensue.

Statisticians cap at 300, Armsmasters at 1900, IIRC.  This means 20x the weapon exp, which is really useful.

The important thing about the glitched Foresights is that the specialists come pre-subdued, meaning you can move them around and combine them up to max level in no time, wrecking any curve postgame might have had.  It's serious cheating, even if it's just to save time.

Oh right, I forgot that bit. I was wondering why I seemed to recall not having to retrieve them. And yes, serious cheating given the potency of weapon mastery. I think 90% of my stats came from my weapon alone. (Not that I cheated in my serious playthrough!)

Kind of a related question, does anyone know which weapon dishes out the most damage? I always felt like magic was the strongest, plus you get the big range and AoE.

In D1, Swords are the best weapon overall, though against a single target Axes might outdo them.  This is talking postgame maxing out stuff, of course; for most of the game you can use anything and be fine (and if you have the DS version you use Pleinair with guns and she is pure gold).

I figured it would be swords. I played through the game with a single character though, and I think magic worked better than a sword would have for that. The way I dealt with Baal wouldn't have worked without it, at least. Shooting people from so far away they can't shoot back and all that.

I didn't know Pleinair was playable in DS, and a gun user at that.
